After the dramatic exit of Mauricio Saari and Hazard plus a transfer ban, Chelsea seemed down even before the starting of the season with injuries to key players including Kante adding to the misery as well. The west London side appointed club legend and derby county manager Frank Lampard as their new manager ahead of the season.
Unlike previous managers, Lampard trusted and gave the Chelsea youngsters a chance to shine at the biggest stage. Even though the start wasn’t great with the young side under a new manager failing to impress in their first two fixtures scoring only 1 goal and conceding 5 goals in the opening 2 games but there was only positivity and praise from the manager about his players which resulted in a run of amazing performances that have helped them to move to 5th place with 14 points from 8 games having scored 18 goals in the process, with easy fixtures coming up frank Lampard could move further higher up in the table.
Fixtures: Newcastle, Burnley, Watford and Crystal Palace.
Style of Play:
Though Chelsea has had coaches with different tactical ideas over the last 4 to 5 seasons, the Chelsea club legend was keen only on 4-3-3 and its variants in his gameplay and most importantly narrow forward line gameplay which was seen in most of his derby matches. Lampard’s versatility about the game and experience could help them prepare better for the upcoming matches. However, we’re going to see a lot of high pressing and piercing attacking football funneling out of the squad throughout the season which is a definite treat to the fans. With the settled in midfield and amount of young talent like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic there is a lot left to watch from the season.
