Physio‘s Column: GW38 Players to consider if you’re playing Free Hit | ALLABOUTFPL

The end is near! Almost a year after Liverpool beat Norwich 4-1 to give FPL managers a dream start back in GW1, the final game week of the 2019/20 season is upon us. For many engaged managers, this will be the week the Free Hit chip will finally be used, myself included. GW38+ Free Hit will be the main focus of this week’s column. Although, those who aren’t deploying the chip may still find it useful for some players to target.

GW38+ Goalkeepers:

GW38+ Free Hit Pope
Smiling the way to a Golden Glove

The temptation can be to go a bit different on your Free Hit however I don’t think your goalkeeper is the position to be different. Nick Pope (£5.1) is the obvious choice, he’s the top scoring GK and will be motivated to keep a clean sheet as he seeks a first Golden Glove. Brighton at home looks a great opportunity for him secure his award.

For those looking slightly cheaper, Arsenal’s Emi Martínez (£4.4) seems a solid choice. He faces a Watford side who, by their own admission, are very low on confidence. Since coming into the team in GW31+ the understudy has only returned less than three points once.

GW38+ Defenders:

GW38+ Free Hit TAA
Double Trouble

With so many premium attacking options demanding selection at the moment the defensive will become a money-saving exercise for many. Luckily, there are lots of playing budget defenders for managers to consider. The standouts being Kevin Long, Erik Pieters & Phil Bardsley (£4.3) who will all be keen to play their part in getting Pope over the line in the Golden Glove race. Pieters looks the best option as he carries some attacking threat shown by his assist in GW37.

Elsewhere, Jarod Branthwaite (£4.0) will start for Everton against Bournemouth. The Cumbrian registered an eight pointer last gameweek. Issa Diop (£4.3) is part of a resurgent West Ham side that host Aston Villa on the final day.

For those willing to spend a bit at the back Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0) are good options no matter who they are playing and this week it’s no different. Benjamin Mendy (£5.5) is one to keep an eye if we get early team news, Norwich at home looks an almost guaranteed clean-sheet. Finally, attacking wingbacks Matt Doherty (£6.5) & Marcos Alonso (£6.1) go up against each other and always carry a major threat going forward.

GW38+ Midfielders:

GW38+ Free Hit Sterling
Raheem Sterling the man of the moment

Any team that play Norwich should be targeted on the Free Hit. This week it happens to the most prolific attack in the League, Man City. A triple-up is no doubt required on the Free Hit and most of the options come in the midfield. Mahrez (£8.6) & David Silva (£7.5) look nailed to start after missing out in GW37. I’d also expect Sterling (£12.0) & Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6) to retain their places as they chase goal and assist records.

Champions Liverpool play a Newcastle side with no fit senior centre-backs, squeezing in one of Sadio Mané (£12.2) or Mo Salah (£12.5) looks desirable. We saw how the shackles came off against Chelsea in the last GW.

In the mid to premium bracket, there are the United duo of Martial (£8.5) & Bruno (£9.1) although the team looks tired and faces a tough trip to Leicester. I’d be more tempted by either Son (£9.7) against Palace or Richarlison (£8.2) who hosts Bournemouth could be good GW38+ Free Hit options.

Finally, for midfielders, there are some cheap assets with big differential potential. West Ham pair Antonio (£7.1) & Soucek (£4.8) have been in brilliant form since the restart, the latter especially could be used as an enabler to squeeze in an extra premium asset. Stanislas (£5.8) is owned by just 0.1% of players has two goals and an assist since the restart and appears to be on penalties for Bournemouth.

GW38+ Forwards:

GW38+ Free Hit Kane and Son
Kane could continue his scoring haul

Both Spurs and Arsenal’s leading marksman enjoy promising fixtures against Palace and Watford respectively, Harry Kane (£10.9) & Aubameyang (£10.9) are two high ceiling player. Kane especially has a great record of racking up the goals towards the end of season and has recorded consecutive braces in the lead up to GW38.

Jamie Vardy (£9.7) is the current leader in the Golden Boot race and will be keen to secure the award after missing out in 2016. For those who aren’t going triple City in the midfield will likely look at Jesus (£9.9) who has started every game since Agüero was ruled out for the season.

GW38+ Free Hit Ings
One last late push for Golden Boot

In the budget price range Danny Ings (£7.6) is perhaps the only realistic challenger to Vardy in the Golden Boot race so will no doubt be motivated to score. There isn’t a massive amount of tempting forward options to be honest, I think most Free Hitters will be looking at a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 formation.

That’s it for my look at the players to target for a GW38+ Free Hit. On a personal note, I’ll be building mine around double/triple Burnley defense, triple City attack, Salah, and probably both of Kane and Aubameyang.

For one final time this season, good luck!
