After what felt like the longest game week in FPL history GW32+ finally came to an end with Liverpool’s humbling at the Etihad on Thursday night. Whether you captained Aubameyang or Jiménez there is little time to dwell, the next deadline is fast approaching!
On paper FPL GW33+ looks like a blinder, however, most of you will have played FPL long enough to know it doesn’t always work out that way…
Lessons learnt ~ FPL GW32+
Pick and stick:
Right now Manchester United and Manchester City are bang in favour and for many managers, it’s not whether to get five or six, it’s which five or six to get! It’s hard to advise against loading your team with assets from the Manchester clubs ahead of their brilliant fixture runs.
As we have seen this week the fantasy points will be shared around. Last gameweek it was Martial (£8.2) and Rashford (£9.1), this week Fernandes (£8.8) and Greenwood (£4.4) who rewarded their owners. The same can be said for Manchester City with Sterling (£11.7), Foden (£5.3), Mahrez (£8.5) and KDB (£10.7) all picking up multiple attacking returns since the restart.
It can be tempting to chase points and make sideways moves, for example, those who went Fernandes to Martial after the Frenchman netted a hat-trick in GW31+. Sideways moves will usually end up with you missing out on points and burning any you do pick up by taking hits. Pick your assets and stick with them. Hold your nerve and you should reap the rewards!
Can we have more midfield slots?
Unfortunately for those managers who love playing 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 forwards aren’t in vogue right now and many managers, including myself, are desperate for another midfield slot!
Indeed, the highest-scoring forward from GW32+, Aubameyang (£11.0) is the fourth most transferred out player this week. Fellow strikers Vardy (£9.7) and Calvert-Lewin (£6.5) take the third and fifth positions respectively. The lack of obvious like for like replacements, Rashford aside, means managers are looking reinvest those funds into midfield and switch to a 3-5-2 formation.
As well as the mouthwatering options from the two Manchester clubs that I previously mentioned cases can be made for Pulisic (£7.1) and Son (£9.8), especially the former ahead of Watford, Palace and Norwich in the next four. Saint-Maximin (£5.5) and Antonio (£6.9) are worthy of mentions after very impressive GW32+ performances. Oh, did I mention Salah (£12.6) and Mané (£12.5)?! It’s very hard to argue against five big hitters in midfield right now.
Liverpool – don’t buy, don’t sell?
The celebratory mood on the red half of Merseyside has slightly soured on Thursday night thanks to a Manchester City masterclass. This has left managers wondering what to do with their Liverpool assets.
Klopp sounded very angry in the post-match interview last night and part of me thinks he will want Villa thrashed on Sunday. No way would I be selling Salah or Mané. I probably wouldn’t be buying one either, especially with Mahrez getting a rest last night and Man United playing Bournemouth.
All things FPL GW33+
On paper, this gameweek looks like a very high scoring one. Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, teams that form the core of most FPL sides, enjoy brilliant fixtures against bottom-half teams. Wolves v Arsenal looks a tricky one to call on paper although I definitely wouldn’t be benching Wolves assets.
It looks set to be an exciting three days with a plethora of captaincy options once again, there is no standout candidate, meaning big gains if you can nail your captain pick!

My faith in Aubameyang was finally rewarded in GW32+ as his fixture against Norwich lived up to expectations, albeit with a little help from Tim Kurl! Fernandes and KDB also chipped whilst Maguire and Boly delivered their routine six points to help me up to 82. Overlooking Nick Pope in goal continues to haunt me though…
This resulted in a green arrow from 94K to 64K and puts my top 50K target tantalisingly close.
In preparation for GW33+, I’ve already taken a minus eight in order to facilitate my switch to 3-5-2. Mahrez, Pulisic and Rashford come in for Aubameyang, Sarr and Norwood.
Rashford takes the armband. He impressed me against Sheffield United back in GW31+ and I don’t think a goal is too far away for him.
Boly gets the nod over Lascelles due to Arsenal’s abysmal defensive set-piece record, 56% of their conceded goals have come from dead-ball situations.
That’s all for this week. Back to a more normal game week timetable, all over in three days! I’ll be back on Monday for my GW34+ column. In the meantime, good luck for GW33+ and Do drop me a follow on twitter @fpl_physio and let’s continue the discussion over there.
