FPL DGW36 is here and the gameweek being a mini double gameweek for Brighton and Newcastle has made captaincy an exciting debate. Managers have a dilemma of whether to captain a double gameweek player or stick with reliable options who play once this gameweek. Without further ado let’s take a look at the top five FPL Gameweek 36 Captain Picks and see who tops our successful captaincy metrics.
The metrics had a 30/38 “returns record” last season and so far has a 28/34 “returns record” this season. Do follow the man behind the metrics @AK_FPL1(Do follow him on Twitter)
Note: “Returns” ~ player topping the metrics getting points returns and not necessarily the highest scoring option of the week. Metrics total points so far: 624 pts(24+10+12+34+34+18+12+46+12+4+6+26+14+10+2+26+12+10+16+34+40+20+4+4+8+22+14+24+24+14+28+32+4)

Haaland and Salah are 3rd and 4th even though they don’t have a double gameweek this time, however their form and fixture cannot be ignored. Trippier who has gone silent in the last few games is 5th in the captaincy poll with 6% of the votes.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 36 Captain picks
Haaland’s numbers keep getting better every single week and over the last six games he has a whopping 13 big chances and an xG of 6.89. Salah is 2nd with an xG of 4.32. This reiterates the fact that both of them are decent captaincy option this week even though they play only once this week. Wilson is in the form of his life scoring 6 goals in the last 6 games and has an xG of 3.47 in the last six games.
Isak is a distant 4th having only registered an xG of 1.49 in the last six games, nearly a 2.0 xG difference in the xG between Wilson and Isak even though Isak played more than Wilson.
Trippier is as expected last as he’s a defender, but his 21 chances created in the last six games is a great inidcator of his assist potential. He’s still been creating quality chances without assist returns.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Newcastle have registered the most shots inside the box(70) in the last six games, however both Liverpool(23) and Man City(24) have registered more big chances which had resulted in a better xG for the two teams and has left Newcastle 3rd amongst the three teams. Man city edge Liverpool on xG to finish on top in this section of the captaincy metrics.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 36 Captain Picks
In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week. I have then averaged the Two Ranks to churn out the Average Rank Factor, which I have used to determine the Safest yet Explosive option.
Trippier has the joint highest Anytime Returns Projections at 86%, while his Projected Points stand at 10.2 for the week.
Wilson has joint highest Anytime Returns Projections at 86%, while his Projected Points stand at 9.5 for the week, giving him the joint second spot.
Isak has an Anytime Returns Projections at 76%, while his Projected Points stand at 10.8 for the week, giving him the joint second spot.
Haaland has an Anytime Returns Projections at 75% and Projected Points at 8.3, which puts him in fourth place.
Mohammed Salah has an Anytime Returns Projection at 66%, and the Projected Points at 7.2 this week, giving him the last spot.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 36 Captaincy metric analysis
In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric.
Wislon finishes on top with a CRF of 9. Isak and Haaland are joint second with a CRF of 10.
Trippier finishes above Salah with a CRF of 12, while Salah finishes last with a CRF of 13.
Only a Cumulative rank factor(CRF) of 4 separates the top ranked player(Wilson) and the bottom ranked player(Salah) which shows how tight it is this week!
Good luck Managers for an exciting FPL DGW36, wishing you all the very best for the 2nd last double gameweek of the season!
