FPL GW15 Differential Picks to Consider | FPL GW15 Preview

It’s been just a few hours since the end of FPL GW15 which once again proved why you need to captain Mo Salah. Leaving that aside, now that captaincy is out of question for gaining places, differentials is the way to climb some places in ranking during the busy festive period of fixtures. In this FPL GW15 blog, we’ll look at the best differentials for the upcoming weeks who’ll help you gain ranks.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW15 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 13/14 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW14. FPL GW15 Differential Picks

Maddison vs Aston Villa, TSB: 6.4%

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ James Maddison vs Aston Villa

Maddison has picked at form at the right time to put Leicester’s season back on track with consecutive double digit FPL hauls- 16 point against Watford in GW13, 10 points against Southampton in GW14. He has managed 2 goals, 2 assists in the last 2 GWs compared to just one attacking return from the initial 12 Gameweeks. Leicester City have good fixtures lined up in the pre festive period- Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham and Everton in the next 4 games. The injury to Tielemans(since GW12) means that Maddison is the chief creator in the team, as a result of which the chances of him coming up with big hauls is high.

Maddison attacking numbers(since GW12):

  • Shots on target- 6(1st overall)
  • Shots- 10( 3rd among midfielders)
  • Key Passes- 8(2nd overall)
  • Big Chances- 2(Joint 2nd overall)
  • Expected Assists- 1.24(4th overall)
  • Goal Involvements- 4(2nd overall)

Romelu Lukaku vs West Ham(A), TSB: 9.6%, £11.5

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea’s main target man is finally back from his injury and has appeared from the bench in the last two games to build match fitness. He should take his spot back in the starting 11 against West Ham and probably rested against struggling Zenith in the CL fixture midweek.

Chelsea are upagainst Westham who are winless in the last three games after a stunning victory against Liverpool in GW11. Their defensive numbers during the period is also not good(Liv, Wolves, Man City, Brighton)

West Ham defensive stats in the last four games:

  • Shots: 59 (Fourth most)
  • Shots inside the box: 39
  • Shots on target: 22
  • Big chances: 10(Third most)
  • xGC: 7.1
  • Goals conceded: 6

The hammers have also conceded 44% of their chances through the middle in the last four games which bodes well for Lukaku who loves to play the hammers having scored 9 goals and made four assists in the 13 games he has faced West ham in the premier league.

Maxwell Cornet vs Newcastle(A), £6.1, TSB: 2.9%

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ Maxwel Cornet

Cornet has been one of the shining lights for Burnley in an otherwise dull season so far. Burnley are up against fellow relegation strugglers Newcastle who haven’t kept a CS this season. Things haven’t looked good since Eddie Howe took over. In the last two games alone Newcastle have conceded 40 shots on goal, seven big chances.

Since Newcastle are looking to attack more they leave a lot more opportunities for opponents. Corent has been in good form and really buries the few chances he gets. The shot map below shows the same.

Cornet shot map so far this season

Burnley fixtures are good as well in December and Cornet could be a great addition to your FPL Teams.

Andy Robertson vs Wolves(A), £7.0, TSB:2.1%

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ Andrew Robertson

So far this season we FPL managers have been spared of the age-old headache of choosing between Alexander-Arnold and Robertson. That is because in the first 12 Gameweeks combined Robbo registered just 1 assist. However, things have changed in the last week. The left back provided 3 assists in two matches, securing 19 FPL points in the process, 8 more than Trent in that time.

Per game statGW 1-12GW 13-14

Assists1.50.13
Chances created3.51.38
BCC1.50.13

While the points tally can be overlooked, the chances created and the BCC cannot be overlooked. Something has changed in the last two weeks, may be it is because Robertson feels fresher after his recovery from injury.

Answering the million dollar question- Jota or Robertson

Now it goes without saying that Trent and Salah are must haves. That begs a question as to whether we should have Jota or Robertson as the third Liverpool asset. Reports suggest that Bobby Firmino may be back from injury soon and he will come into the picture in the festive period. One thing FPL managers have to be mindful of in this period is to have certain starters in their teams. We believe that Robertson is more likely to start more games than Jota in this time. Therefore if you are looking to bring in a third player from Jurgen Klopp’s army in FPL GW15, then we suggest you go for the left back over the midfielder.

Fun fact

Andy Robertson will make his 200th appearance in the Premier League this weekend, he will be the 15th Scottish player to do so. His tally of 43 assists is more than any other Scotsman. Can he make it 44 or beyond?

Ollie Watkins vs Leicester(H), £7.4, TSB:3.7%

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ Ollie Watkins

After a disappointing start to the season, Ollie Watkins has been performing really well from Gameweek 7 onwards. In fact his tally of 39 points in that time, is second only to Dennis(50) among forwards. The Englishman has 4 goals and an assist in the aforementioned period. Watkins takes on Leicester in FPL GW15, one of the worst defenses in the league this season.

StatTallyRank(1 is worst)

xGC23.84
Clean Sheets13
Shots allowed2222
Shots in the box allowed1461

Leicester City defensive numbers so far this season

As we can see, Brendan Rodgers’ men have been pretty poor this season at the back. Furthermore, no team has allowed more headed attempts than the Foxes. Three of Ollie Watkins’ Eighteen goals in the league has come with his head. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he can make it 4!

The Villains have good set of fixtures coming up. Four of Villa’s next 6 fixtures (post-Leicester) are ranked 2 in the FDR chart. With Ings injured, Watkins is the focal point of the attack, therefore there is a high possibility of the Englishman having a fruitful festive period.

Fun Fact

This weekend, Ollie Watkins will make his 50th appearance for Aston Villa. The forward has scored 18 goals in that time. Can he make it 19?

Ultra-Differential Pick for FPL GW15(<1% TSB):

Marcus Rashford vs Crystal Palace, TSB: 0.8%

FPL GW15 Differential Picks ~ Marcus Rashford

Rashford is almost back to full fitness and form since his return from injury with three successive starts since GW12. It is expected that Rashford would be an integral part of Rangnick’s style of play. With Manchester United having a great run of fixtures since GW16, it is important to get ahead of crowd and Rashford could be a great ultra-differential pick for FPL GW15.

Rashford per 90 minutes stats since GW8(Among midfielders):

  • Big chances- 0.82(6th)
  • Shots on Target- 1.36(5th)
  • Expected Goals- 0.46(6th)
