Top FPL Gameweek 15 Captain Picks Based on Analysis and Metrics

Captaincy this season has been becoming really boring with Salah scoring goals for fun. The Liverpool attacker now has 13 goals and 9 assists in four games blanking just once so far this season. As usual in this FPL Gameweek 15 Captain Picks blog we take a look at the top five options based on our metrics. The best of the rest(Captaincy choices other than Salah) has been swinging constantly everyweek and that only strengthens the case for Salah as a captain choice.

FPL GW15 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

[Total_Soft_Poll id=”24″]

Salah without a doubt tops the poll with nearly 67% of votes. Son is second in the poll following his goal against Brenford. Ronaldo is third in the list following a midweek brace against Arsenal. Spurs captain Kane who has been dodging scoring for weeks but still manages to be in the top of the captaincy poll this week due to the game against Norwich this week. TAA just about finishes fifth ahead of teammate Jota. Wolves are known to score less goals and concede less this season and this bodes well for TAA

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 15 Captain picks

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 15 Captain picks

Nothing new here, Mo Salah absolutely dominates the stats with 19 shots inside the box, 10 chances created, whopping 9 big chances and an xG of 4.64 which is just one less than the entire Wolves team have managed during the period.

Ronaldo still is second in the player stats while missing out on the starting 11 on few occasions. 16 shots, five big chances and an xG of 3.03 are healthy numbers. Incoming manager Ralf Rangnick had some high praise for Ronaldo who just scored his 800th professional goal.

Son and Kane have little difference between them in terms of numbers and the Spurs duo are third and fourth on the list. Trent has a whopping 16 chances created but his lack of direct goal scoring stats means he’s last in the player attack rankings.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidates Teams

Underlying Numbers of the Candidates Teams

Liverpool have been high flying scoring 21 goals in the last six games alone which is the highest in the league during the period. The 24 big chances is also the highest in the division. Spurs and Man United attacking numbers are pretty similar and uninspiring which is partly due to the fact that both have had manager transitions.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW15

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW15

In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates. We have used Drafthound’s Clean Sheet odds and the Odds of Conceding more than 2.5 goals. You can check out the same as well for free on Drafthound along with fixture analysis, predicted analysis, and more.

Wolves have the lowest chance of keeping a CS amongst the five three teams and also have a 39% chance of conceding 2.5+ goals. Norwich have also a poor chance of CS with a CS odds of just 15%. Palace have had great defensive numbers but United picking up form and the new manager bounce which is expected gives them just an odds of 17% for a CS.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 15 Captain Picks

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 15 Captain Picks

In the Fourth Phase of the article, We have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.

Kane although in poor form finds himself on top of the projections with a 76% chance of a return and a point projection of 8.8. Son is closely second with a projection of 7.9.

Salah has a projection of 6.2 points this might be due to the higher weightage given to the opposition defence in the projections model. Ronaldo and Trent are fourth and fifth with pretty similar projections.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 15 Captaincy metric analysis

Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 15 Captaincy metric analysis

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric.

Mo Salah tops our FPL Gameweek 15 Captaincy metric analysis making him the best captain choice

Nothing new here with Salah toping the model once again. Our model gives a lot of weightage to current form and with Liverpool and Salah in such peak form, it’s hard to beat it. But we might see a change soon with Salah’s participation in the AFCON. The other four end up with a CRF of 12 which tells how uninspiring are the options compared to Salah.
