FPL Transfers Gameweek 4 Deadline – Saturday 11th September 2021 at 11:00 BST

We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.

Top Transfers In and Out Ahead of FPL GW4

FPL GW4 Transfer Trends ~ Top transfer ins and transfer outs
FPL GW4 Transfer trends ~ Most transferred in and transferred out players

668k managers have given Bruno Fernandes the boot, despite his first-ever hat-trick and monster FPL haul in GW1. Coming in second for most transfers out is Aston Villa’s Danny Ings, with 566k transfers swapping him out.

526k managers have taken out goalkeeper Emi Martinez as he will need to adhere to English quarantine guidelines after traveling abroad for World Cup qualifiers. Finishing off the list of most transfers out are defenders Tsimikas (400k transfers) and Shaw (323k transfers).

On the flip side, with the latest buzz about Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic return to Manchester United, there’s no surprise he is leading the top transfers in this GW, with a staggering 1.1 MILLION transfers in prior to the deadline (and more probably yet to come)!

City’s Ferran Torres comes in second with 651k transfers in, closely followed by a regular on this series Michail Antonio with 618k transfers in.

Budget midfielders Demarai Gray and Saïd Benrahma fill the 4th and 5th place spots with 435k and 417k transfers respectively.

The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Ings to Ronaldo, Barnes to Torres, and Tsimikas to Duffy.

Top Three FPL GW4 Transfer Trends Combinations

FPL GW4 Transfer Combination 1: Ings (£8.0) to Ronaldo (£12.5)

Man United’s fixtures from GW4-10

Despite his 3 returns in the last three games, including 2 goals and an assist, a staggering 50.6% of managers have already made the switch from Ings to Ronaldo. And, quite understandably, considering Ings relatively unsustainable numbers and the unfavorable fixture run Villa have from GWs4-7.

Cristiano Ronaldo priced at a hefty premium price of £12.5 doesn’t deter the 1 million-plus managers bringing him in prior to the Gameweek 4 deadline. In recent events, Ronaldo has broken the record for most goals scored in international matches, after Portugal’s 2-1 win over Ireland. Despite initially missing a penalty, Ronaldo came back to score two last-minute goals to not only give Portugal the win but also smash the international record.

To add onto his appeal, he was booked with a yellow card, which meant he would be suspended and not permitted to travel with the team to play in Azerbaijan. This allowed Ronaldo to return to Manchester earlier than anticipated, giving him ample time to prepare for his start against Newcastle at home.

Looking at his stats, he always scored 20+ goals in his three seasons with Juventus alone. He scored 21 goals in the 18/19 season, 31 goals in the 19/20 season, and 29 goals in the 20/21 season. He should be on penalty duty at United, but that is yet to be 100% confirmed. He is definitely worth the premium price tag with his goal threat and reputation as a lethal striker.

Who do Man United face in GW4?

United face Newcastle at home in GW4. We’ve seen previously that the home team advantage is crucial for Manchester United, after their 5-1 thrashing over Leeds United. Fans will be eager to see Ronaldo play live again, so it’ll be hard for him not to score in this game.

Additionally, Newcastle are second-worst for most big chances conceded with 11. They are joint first for most shots from set-pieces conceded with 5 conceded, which should fare well for Ronaldo’s renowned aerial threat.

In other words, it will be difficult to see Ronaldo not scoring against Newcastle.

Newcastle's defensive stats shows they conceded 11 big chances.

FPL GW4 Transfer Combination 2: Harvey Barnes (£6.8) to Ferran Torres (£7.1)

Man City’s fixtures from GW4-10

Many managers who jumped on Harvey Barnes as their midfield punt at the start of the season are sure to be heavily disappointed by his performance so far, after not registering a single return since GW1 despite facing Wolves, West Ham, and Norwich as opposition. His steady price drops don’t help his appeal either.

21.5% of managers have already made the straight swap from Barnes to Ferran Torres, who, as we’ve seen, is playing an out-of-position role as a false 9 striker, despite Jesus being available. A £7.1 midfielder who plays as a striker for a goal-prolific Manchester City sounds very attractive indeed!

And, after his 18 point monster haul against Arsenal, where he picked up a brace and an assist, managers are eager to bring him on.

And the stats comparison is plain to see:

Additionally, Torres leads among all midfielders priced £6.5-7.5 for most touches in the box (18). He also leads for the most shots in the box (6) and big chances (3).

The primary thought of consideration would be the notorious Pep Roulette. Despite the unpredictability of Pep’s team selection, Torres is worth taking a punt on since City have yet to sign a new striker, and, at £7.0, him not starting isn’t a huge blow to your team.

Who do Man City face in GW4?

Man City play Leicester in GW4. While Leicester on paper isn’t a fixture that strikes you as appealing, they have a non-penalty xG of 3.4, only second to Norwich.

To add on, with a couple of their major defensive players out or doubtful, including Vestergaard, Pereira, Bertrand, Evans, Fofana, and Justin, expect their defense to be shaky.

If that doesn’t convince you, City play Southampton at home in GW5. You’ll want to keep Torres for that fixture.

Leicester are 2nd for non-penalty xG conceded.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW4 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics have been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Antonio as the best captaincy candidate ahead of Salah, Son, and Kane and he scored a monster haul once again. Stay tuned for the GW4 Captaincy metric to see who tops it!

FPL GW4 Transfer Combination 3: Tsimikas (£4.1) to Shane Duffy (£4.2)

Brighton’s fixtures from GW4-10

Tsimikas has done a huge service for FPL managers who backed him from GWs1-2. He delivered a stunning 11 point haul in GW2 with an assist and a clean sheet. Unfortunately, with Robertson back from injury, it looks like Tsimikas may return to the bench as second-choice left-back.

An easy swap to Shane Duffy, already performed by 76% of managers, is a very reasonable move to make, after the Brighton defender scored a 14 point haul in GW2 against Watford, picking up a goal and clean sheet.

FPL managers who have played the game for a while will remember Duffy’s stunning 18/19 season, where he scored 5 goals, 2 assists, and 7 clean sheets, for a total of 115 points!

Statistically, he currently leads among all budget defenders for most shots in the box (8) and headed attempts (7). Despite primarily being a center-back, his attacking threat is worth noting. And, at his current price of £4.2, the value he presents is outstanding.

Who do Brighton face in GW4?

Brighton play Brentford away in GW4. Brentford have been somewhat defensively decent, only conceding 2 goals and 1 big chance thus far (joint first with Man City).

But one thing to note is Brentford are 2nd worst among all defenses for most shots from set-pieces (4), as well as conceding 8 headed attempts. Duffy’s aerial threat on set pieces should cause issues.

And, at £4.2, he is easy to bench and an enabler to allow you to free up funds for upgrades elsewhere.

Brentford have conceded 4 shots from set-piece and 8 headed attempts.
