FPL Gameweek 7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

The Premier League rolls into GW7 with a blockbuster schedule — Arsenal hosting West Ham, Chelsea taking on Liverpool, and Brentford clashing with Manchester City in what could be a real test for Pep’s men. For FPL managers, this week is less about chasing last week’s hauls and more about anticipating where the points are about to come from.

GW6 was one of those weeks that reminded us why FPL is as much about nerve as it is about numbers. Erling Haaland, handed the Triple Captain armband by over 2 million managers, had people sweating until the 90th minute with only an assist to his name. Then came the inevitable: two goals in the space of 3 minutes, turning anxiety into ecstasy and leaving non-Haaland captainers buried. The big Norwegian now sits on 8 goals and 1 assist, with an xGI per 90 of 1.42, reminding everyone why he’s fixture-proof.

On the flip side, patience was finally rewarded for those who stuck with Ollie Watkins. After five straight blanks, the Villa striker delivered with a goal racking up 8 points. His underlying stats had always suggested he was due — and against Fulham he finally converted that promise into points. The question now: is this the start of one of Watkins’ trademark hot streaks?

Elsewhere, the surprise package of the season has to be Sunderland, sitting in the Top 6 after five games. Their defensive solidity (just 4 goals conceded, second-best in the league) and disciplined midfield have made them tough to break down. While they may not yet be packed with FPL assets, managers may slowly start looking at taking their assets as more than bench fodders.

And then there’s Burnley’s new star boy: Anthony. Despite facing Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United so far, he’s emerged as the fifth-highest scoring FPL player overall, with 4 goals, 1 assist, and 40 points so far. At a bargain price, he’s already looking like this season’s budget enabler who can deliver returns even in tough fixtures.

We’re reaching the part of the season where patience is starting to wear thin. Those early-season punts either need to justify their place or make way for new assets emerging from good form and favourable fixtures.

So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Gabriel (£6.2m) – DEF, Arsenal – 25.2% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Gabriel

Arsenal have quietly racked up strong defensive numbers, conceding just the least goals conceded (3) in EPL this season, with an xGC of 3.86 which is again the least in the league. Gabriel has played every minute so far and continues to be their most reliable centre-back option.

What makes him stand out is the attacking threat: he has 0.98 xGI this season, and last season he scored 3 goals. With West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Sunderland and Spurs in the next six (all with an FDR < 4), clean sheet potential is high — and a headed goal or two wouldn’t surprise anyone. While people are trying to buy Gyökeres, I suggest you focus on Gabriel. He is a plug-and-play defender with real upside with a higher haul potential at a lower cost.

Arteta on Gabriel in the pre-match press conference: “We will have to wait and see after training. We’re not too concerned about it.”

Ismaïla Sarr (£6.4m) – MID, Crystal Palace – 3.6% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Sarr

Sarr has been Palace’s talisman this season, blanking only once whenever he has started. He ranks 1st for xG per start (0.69) and xGI per start (0.7) among all midfielders. His direct running, shot volume, and role as Palace’s main outlet make him a reliable source of returns.

Adding to his appeal, Crystal Palace are still undefeated in the league, riding a wave of confidence. Between now and GW15, they face only one fixture with an FDR of 4 — Arsenal — and even that’s hardly daunting given Sarr scored against the Gunners last season. With steady returns and excellent underlying metrics, he looks like the mid-priced gem managers have been searching for.

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Ollie Watkins (£8.7m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 9.8% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Watkins

Ollie Watkins has been a difficult player to stick with in recent weeks, returning five consecutive blanks and testing the patience of many FPL managers. However, he reminded us of his quality by finally getting back on the scoresheet this week, and the upcoming fixture provides a strong reason to keep the faith for a little longer.

Aston Villa face Burnley next — a side that currently rank 20th across nearly every key defensive metric, from expected goals conceded (xGC) to shots conceded inside the box. To make matters worse for Scott Parker’s team, they are coming off the back of a 1-5 thrashing in their last match, exposing just how fragile their backline really is. With Watkins leading the line for a Villa side that thrives against weaker defences, this could be the perfect chance for him to deliver a big haul. For that reason, he’s worth holding for at least one more week before reassessing.

Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) – MID, Man Utd – 20.4% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United’s form has been inconsistent this season, but one thing that remains constant is Bruno Fernandes’ importance to their attack. He leads the league in key passes (16) and as the designated penalty taker for Man Utd, he continues to have a reliable path to points. While it’s true that he has blanked 4 times in the 6 outings this season, his underlying creativity is still elite, which keeps him in the mix as one of the most influential midfielders in the league.

The frustration for FPL managers is understandable, especially after Bruno missed a penalty in the last match — his second of the season. But it’s worth noting that had those two spot-kicks been converted, he would likely be among the top five scoring midfielders in the game right now, factoring in the additional bonus points he’d have earned. His role and consistency in creating chances mean his ceiling remains high.

This week, he faces promoted Sunderland at Old Trafford, and the numbers are heavily in his favour. At home, Bruno averages an impressive 7.33 points per game, underlining how much more dangerous he becomes in front of his own fans. With ownership dipping to around ~20%, he’s starting to shape up as a semi-differential compared to more popular midfield picks like Semenyo, Salah or Reijnders. For managers looking for patience to pay off, Bruno is a clear hold for one last GW maybe.

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) – MID, Liverpool – 45.7% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Salah

This is the headline call of the week. Salah’s output has slowed. His xGI of 0.4 per 90 is his lowest stretch in years.

SeasonxGI per 90
2018/191.0
2019/201.0
2020/210.9
2021/221.2
2022/230.8
2023/241.0
2024/250.9
2025/260.4

Mohamed Salah has been far from his usual explosive self this season, managing just 32 points so far. His output looks even more underwhelming when compared to other premium assets — Erling Haaland, for instance, has already racked up 62 points, nearly double Salah’s tally. The opportunity cost of holding Salah is therefore huge, especially with his premium price tag tying up funds that could be redistributed more effectively across your squad.

Liverpool’s fixtures don’t get much kinder either, with clashes against Chelsea and Manchester City looming in the next five. His role also feels less central compared to past seasons, often drifting wide and letting others occupy more dangerous spaces in the box.

Instead of holding onto Salah in the hope of a resurgence, managers could repurpose his funds into Haaland — the standout captaincy option week after week — or spread the budget to strengthen multiple positions. Such is the power of Salah, though, that I might look like a total idiot if he bangs in a 20-pointer this GW or the next. He has proved doubters wrong season after season. But based on the current circumstances and data, it feels worthwhile to invest his budget in Haaland and Arsenal defenders.

Chris Wood (£7.5m) – FWD, Nott’m Forest – 16.1% TSB

FPL GW7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Chris Wood

The season started brightly, as Wood announced himself with a brace in Forest’s opener. But he has since gone five games without a return, despite facing West Ham, Burnley, and Sunderland.

Season | xGI per 90
2025/26 | 0.56

Wood’s output has been underwhelming for a player of his price and primary attacking role. Forest themselves are struggling under a new manager, failing to win in their last five matches. Meanwhile, Igor Jesus has made an explosive start to his Forest career, netting four goals in six games and taking the spotlight in attack.

For FPL managers, Wood’s lack of returns, combined with Forest’s poor form and emerging competition for goals, makes him a difficult hold. Funds invested in him could be better redeployed — either upgrading a struggling asset or spreading the budget to strengthen multiple positions. Given the current context, Wood is a sell.
