As we head into the business end of the FPL season, Mo Salah has once again reminded us why he’s a legend of the game—and of our teams. The Egyptian King has officially broken his own record for the most FPL points in a single season… and here’s the kicker—he still has nine matches to go! Absolutely bonkers stuff. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer continues his freefall; not only did he blank yet again, but he also missed a penalty this week. Since Gameweek 22, over 140 players have outscored him, a stat few would have believed just a couple of months back. Interestingly in that period, he leads the charts for Shots. But such has been the luck of Palmer owners.
Elsewhere, differential defenders are making headlines, with Cucurella and Sarr both delivering back-to-back double-digit hauls. And for those keeping an eye on team sheets, the return of Evanilson saw Ouattara benched for the first time since GW19.
But while the points keep coming, planning is now more crucial than ever. The season’s second blank gameweek is almost here, and it’s a big one. Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Aston Villa—and most significantly, Liverpool—won’t feature. For managers who’ve defaulted to captaining Salah week in and week out, it’s time to think differently. With key assets missing, making smart transfers and nailing your captaincy call could be the difference between climbing ranks or falling behind.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL GW29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.5m) – MID, Nott’m Forest – 7.0% TSB

I was planning to put together an analysis on just how consistently impressive Morgan Gibbs-White has been this season. But credit where it’s due—Surya and Srini have already nailed it with their breakdown here:

To strengthen the case even further, let’s take a quick look at the defensive weakness of Gibbs-White’s GW29 opponents, Ipswich. Their numbers at the back are pretty alarming:
🔻 15th for Shots Conceded
🔻 15th for Shots in the Box
🔻 16th for Shots on Target Conceded
🔻 18th for Goals Conceded
🔻 19th for Big Chances Conceded
🔻 19th for NPxGC
🔻 19th for xGC
🔻 19th for xCS
🔻 19th for Clean Sheets
Given these stats, Gibbs-White should be right at the top of your transfer targets this week. He’s in form, on set-pieces, and facing one of the leakiest defenses in the league. Don’t overthink it!

Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) – MID, Man Utd – 13.9% TSB

If you’re searching for a talisman to lead your FPL charge in GW29, look no further than Bruno Fernandes. Since Gameweek 26, Bruno hasn’t just been good—he’s been unstoppable. Among all midfielders, he ranks:
🔥 1st for Assists
🔥 1st for Bonus Points
⚡ 2nd for FPL Points
⚡ 2nd for BPS
⚡ 2nd for Shots on Target
⚡ 2nd for Goal Involvements
⚡ 2nd for Big Chances Created
⚽ 3rd for Goals Scored
And now, he faces Leicester… a defense that’s about as watertight as a sieve. In their last meeting, Bruno delivered a jaw-dropping 17 points—and there’s every chance he could repeat (or better) that feat. Why? Because Leicester’s defensive numbers are downright dreadful:
❌ 20th for Clean Sheets
❌ 19th for Goals Conceded
❌ 19th for Shots in the Box Conceded
❌ 19th for Shots on Target Conceded
❌ 18th for Big Chances Conceded
❌ 18th for xGC
❌ 18th for xCS
❌ 17th for Shots from Set Pieces Conceded
And guess who takes penalties and free kicks for Manchester United? None other than Bruno himself, who curled in a beauty from a set piece just last week.
If you’re after a game-changer—a captain who can haul big—Bruno Fernandes is that man. Ignore him at your peril.

FPL GW29 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Mohamed Salah (£13.8m) – MID, Liverpool – 68.8% TSB

Labelling Salah as a HOLD might raise some eyebrows, but there’s sound logic behind it. Words hardly do justice to the incredible season he’s having, yet despite his consistent performances, Salah finds himself among the top three most transferred-out midfielders this week—largely due to Liverpool’s blank.
However, Tuesday night changed the landscape significantly. With Liverpool’s exit from the Champions League and no further involvement in the FA Cup, their fixture congestion has eased considerably. Apart from the Carabao Cup final this Sunday, Liverpool can now focus entirely on the league. This all but guarantees Salah will start every remaining Premier League game as they push for the title.
For most managers, there’s close to £1.0m in value tied up in Salah, making a sale right now seem shortsighted. The only scenario where moving him on makes sense is if you’re planning to activate a Wildcard in GW30 and can bring him back without much hassle. Otherwise…

Omar Marmoush (£7.2m) – FWD, Man City – 11.0% TSB

Aside from the players who are unavailable for GW29, the two most sold assets this week are Cole Palmer and Omar Marmoush. While there’s a solid case for managers moving Palmer on—given his recent dip in form and a tough run of fixtures ahead—the decision to sell Marmoush appears a bit reactionary. His benching against Forest (his first this season) came after 5 consecutive starts. Fixture-wise, Marmoush remains well-positioned, and his underlying stats suggest there’s potential for points if he’s back in the starting XI.

Much like dealing with Pep Guardiola’s unpredictable rotation, it’s always tricky to second-guess a manager’s decisions. However, it’s hard to imagine that the tactical switch, which led to another disappointing result, will be repeated this weekend.

Lewis Hall (£4.9m) – DEF, Newcastle – 11.9% TSB

Newcastle United have been dealt a blow with young defender Lewis Hall sidelined for the rest of the season due to a foot injury. The 20-year-old is set to undergo surgery after picking up the issue during Newcastle’s defeat to Liverpool back in February. Manager Eddie Howe shared his disappointment, noting that Hall had been in excellent form and was pushing for both club success and potential international opportunities.
“It’s a tough one for him and for us,” Howe admitted. “With the cup final ahead and his hopes of playing for his country, it’s unfortunate timing. He was performing really well and making great progress. The focus now has to be on his recovery and ensuring he returns even stronger.”
Howe also mentioned that Hall initially found the news difficult to take, given all the hard work he’d put in this season. “Naturally, it hit him hard at first—he had his sights set on helping Newcastle lift silverware,” said Howe. “But he’s handling it better now and is in a much more positive frame of mind.”
From an FPL perspective, with Hall out of action for the remainder of the campaign, it’s an easy decision to sell him and look for defensive replacements who are fit and have better fixtures ahead.

Antonee Robinson (£5.0m) – DEF, Fulham – 23.7% TSB

Fulham’s fixtures take a nightmarish turn starting this week, with a daunting run against some of the league’s top attacking sides.

Over the last six gameweeks, Antonee Robinson has managed just 9 points, reflecting Fulham’s defensive struggles and their inability to keep clean sheets. With tougher opponents on the horizon, the chances of defensive returns look even slimmer, making it a sensible time to move him on. There are plenty of alternative defenders offering better fixtures, higher clean sheet potential, and even some attacking upside. Shifting to assets from teams like Wolves and Bournemouth—who have more favorable schedules and tighter defenses—could be a smart play to maximize points in the coming weeks.
