Upcoming FPL Double/Blank Gameweeks | 24/25 FPL Season

Double Gameweeks(DGWs) in FPL happen when a team plays twice in a Gameweek. Likewise, Blank Gameweeks in FPL happen when a team doesn’t play in a gameweek. In this article, let’s take a look at the “Upcoming Confirmed and Likely FPL Double Gameweeks” in the 2024/25 FPL season which should help you plan your transfers.

Upcoming FPL Double & Blank Gameweeks

Double Gameweek 24

The Everton vs. Liverpool game will be slotted into GW24. This makes it a good window to triple captain Salah if you have the chip left.

• Liverpool vs BOU(A), EVE(A)
• Everton vs LEI(H), LIV(H)

Blank Gameweek 29:

The Carabao Cup final is slotted for GW29 and this will cause two blank fixtures(four teams blanking)

Carabao Cup Semi-Finals:

• Arsenal v Newcastle(Newcastle are leading Arsenal by 2-0 after the first leg)
• Liverpool v Tottenham

Fixtures that will be likely blanks in GW29:

• Arsenal vs Chelsea will be a blank if Arsenal reach the Carabao Cup final
• Newcastle vs Crystal Palace will be a blank if Newcastle reach the Carabao Cup final
• Aston Villa vs Liverpool will be a blank if Liverpool reach the Carabao Cup final
• Fulham vs Tottenham will be a blank if Tottenham reach the Carabao Cup final

The teams blanking in GW29 will be known ahead of GW25 following the conclusion of the league cup semi-final 2nd leg between GW24 and GW25.

Why is there no big blank gameweek this season?

This season the PL will not clash with the FA Cup Quarterfinals which means the traditionally big blank gameweek will not happen(Last time when the FA Cup QFs clashed with the PL fixtures only 4 PL fixtures happened resulting in the worst gameweek in FPL history)

Double Gameweek 33

The teams blanking in GW29 will be the ones doubling in Gameweek 33, so if Newcastle United reach the Carabao Cup final then Newcastle United & Crystal Palace will blank in GW29 & most likely double in gameweek 33 which makes a DGW33 bench boost interesting as we have quite a lot of cheap & mid-priced assets from the two teams.

In the above scenario,

• Newcastle United will have AVL(A), CRY(H) in GW33
• Crystal Palace will have BOU(A), NEW(A) in GW33

Blank Gameweek 34

Premier League fixtures will still clash with the FA Cup semi-finals in GW34. The exact number of teams blanking will depend on the FA Cup results.

Two PL Teams face each other in the FA Cup 3rd round:

• Aston Villa vs West Ham United 
• Arsenal vs Manchester United 

If a club & their GW34 are both knocked out of the FA Cup then both the teams will not blank in GW34. Ex, if Man United & Bournemouth both fail to reach the FA Cup semi-finals then they’ll not blank in GW34.

Double Gameweek 36

The last double gameweek of the season will be in GW36 with the teams blanking in GW34 doubling in GW36.

Summary of upcoming FPL Double/Blank Gameweeks:

• DGW24: Double gameweek for Liverpool & Everton
• BGW29: Four teams will blank as it clashes with the Carabao Cup finals
• DGW33: The team making the Carabao Cup finals will define DGW33(The same four teams that blank in GW29 will double in GW33)
• BGW34: This gameweek clashes with the FA Cup Semi-finals & the teams reaching the SFs will blank in GW34
• DGW36: Teams blanking in GW34 will then double in GW36(6-8 teams likely to double)
