FPL GW31 Wildcard Guide
Wildcard during this time of the season is often clubbed with other chips which means there are multiple strategies to consider while free-hitting. In this wildcard guide, we’ll go through most of the popular chip strategies that involve a GW31 Wildcard.
- Wildcard in GW31 with Free Hit 34 and Bench Boost 37
- Wildcard in GW31 without Free Hit 34 and Bench Boost 37
- Wildcard in GW31 with Bench Boost 34, Free Hit 37
- Wildcard in GW31 with BB34 and no Free Hit 37
Upcoming Double Gameweeks:
- Seven teams will surely double in GW34 – Arsenal, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Wolves, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Everton
- One team will blank in GW34 – Tottenham Hotspur
- Two teams likely to double in GW35/36 – Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur
- Six teams likely to double in GW37 – Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Man City, Man United, Newcastle United, Brighton

GW31 Wildcard vs GW35 Wildcard
Other Windows to Play Wildcard:
- GW35: With an idea of BB37(Less gap between Wildcard and BB)
Pros of GW31 Wildcard:
- You can build a solid team based on your chip strategy(GW34 Free hit or not) and avoid being priced out by delaying your wildcard in GW35. Can maximize Wildcard by using it for 8 weeks rather than 4 weeks(GW35 WC).
- Avoid taking hits to bring in players to Salah, Darwin who is doubling in GW34 and also has good fixtures from GW31 onwards. Have triple up on Arsenal for GW31 vs Luton(H) if you already don’t have as they double in GW34 as well.
Cons of GW31 Wildcard/Pros of GW35 Wildcard:
- Based on your chip strategy you might bench boost in GW37 which is far away from GW31, injuries are always a cause of concern if there is a huge gap between the wildcard week and bench boost gameweek. Players who you pick now thinking they will double in GW37 may not be fit then.
- The fitness status of Liverpool players including Alisson and Trent(Bradley) is not known clearly yet. Man City defender situation for GW37 bench boost can be guessed better closer to it(Pro for GW35 Wildcarders).
- There is likely to be less clarity on Gusto’s injury news as Chelsea play only on Thursday and GW31 is a Tuesday deadline, Pochettino’s Press conference might not happen before that.
FPL GW31 Wildcard Drafts
FPL GW31 Wildcard Draft 1- WC31, FH34, BB37
GW31 Wildcard Draft:
- There is no need to pick Wolves/Palace/Everton players in your Wildcard team as you will have Free Hit in GW34 to navigate it.
- Gordon is suspended for GW31. Livramento came off injured in GW30, wait for more injury news before the deadline. Branthwaite is an alternate budget option even though Everton don’t double in GW37 they have a good game vs Sheffield United(H)
- Onana and Petrovic take the gloves in this team as they rotate well till the end of the season, especially for managers planning to Bench Boost in GW37 as seen below.
- Disasi is there because of Gusto’s injury. If we get positive updates on Gusto before the deadline, probably get Gusto over Disasi to save money
- You can also have a second Arsenal defender- Saliba/White in place of Udogie with a plan to get back Udogie again by GW35 for the 2 likely Double Gameweeks in GW36 and GW37.
- If your team is short of team value/budget, you can consider these moves-
- Gordon to a Garnacho as Garnacho also likely doubles in GW37 and is in good form.
- Onana to Pickford
- Since you have Free Hit to navigate GW34, you can hold on to your Spurs assets for their good fixtures from GW31-GW33 starting with West Ham(A).
- Isak has good fixtures from GW31 and also doubles in GW37. With Wilson still not back, he should get lots of minutes.
Projection for GW37 Bench Boost:
You can have 15 DGW players on GW37 Bench Boost with just 3 Free Transfers from GW35- GW37:
- Salah to De Bruyne/Foden/Bruno Fernandes
- Saka to Foden/Spurs Mid(Richarlison/Maddison)- To be done before GW36 as Spurs are likely to double in GW36 as well.
- Gabriel to Porro/City DEF(if you are not on triple-up City)

FPL GW31 Wildcard Draft 2- WC31, BB37, No Free Hit Left
GW31 Wildcard Draft
- This draft would mean having a mix of Double Gameweek assets from both DGW34 and DGW37 as you don’t have Free Hit to navigate either. There will be more DGW34 players as it comes first and you can use FTs from there to navigate to DGW37 players.
- Van Hecke and Disasi as DEFs with DGW37. Gabriel, Branthwaite, and Munoz as DEFs with DGW34.
Projection for GW34:
- Two planned transfers from GW32 to GW34-> Son to Eze and Sarabia to Olise.
- Other Free transfer rolled
Projection for GW37 Bench Boost:
- 8 transfers from GW34 team to get to this GW37 Bench Boost which 5 hits(-20 points) over 3 Gameweeks. If you are a manager willing to take risks, you can try this strategy as this involves too many hits.
- The counterargument is that, out of these 8 transfers 3 of them will be to get in Spurs assets who have two upcoming Double Gameweeks in GW36 and GW37. These 8 transfers are likely to pay off as you are bringing in reliable assets like Hojlund, Isak, KDB, Foden, Son, Porro, and Richarlison(as seen in the above projection). Hits for these players with Double Gameweeks are more likely to pay off than hits for Palace/Bournemouth/Wolves assets.
FPL GW31 Wildcard Draft 3- WC31, Bench Boost 34, Free Hit 37
- This strategy would mean building a Wildcard team only to target to DGW34 bench. So triple Liverpool, triple Arsenal is a no-brainer.
- If your team value is not great, the possible moves you can make is Son to Luis Diaz/Eze. You can even get to Havertz and then switch to DGW34 midfielder in GW34.
Projection for Bench Boost in GW34
- 2 Planned transfers for GW34- Eze and Olise in for Son and Palmer
- As you will have Free Hit to navigate DGW37, you can only focus on getting Chelsea and Spurs players in GW35, and GW36(Gusto, Son, Richarlison, Palmer) to attack the likely Double GW36 for Spurs and Chelsea.
- The problem with this strategy is that you are likely to sell Spurs asset(s), Palmer in GW34 and buy back again in GW35 thereby wasting many transfers. Another issue is that you will be banking on Palace, Bournemouth, and Wolves assets with not-so-easy fixtures to come good in Bench Boost.

FPL GW31 Wildcard Scenario – WC30, BB34 and no Free Hit left
We strongly do not recommend this strategy due to:
- There are no teams that will Double in both GW34 and GW37. Your Bench Boost GW34 team will have no Spurs assets(Blank GW for Spurs) and one or zero Chelsea assets(Chelsea play Arsenal(A) in GW34). From there to get 11 DGW assets for GW37 will be really difficult and would require lots of hits.
- You need to either compromise on not having 15 DGW players for BB34 or not having 11 good DGW players.
- In GW34, Apart from Arsenal and Liverpool assets, there are not many reliable assets to get to 15 quality DGW players.
So if you don’t have Free Hit left and have only Wildcard and Bench Boost left, these are the possible strategies you should go for:
- Dead end team to GW34, WC35, BB37(Most recommended)
- WC31, BB37(Discussed above)
