FPL GW23 Scout Picks Based on Stats, Analysis, and Matchups

Welcome to our FPL GW23 Scout Picks blog. Our fantastic scout @FPLDaggaFC (Do follow him on Twitter) is back with his Scout picks for Gameweek 23, as always our Scout picks are backed up by eye test, stats, and analysis.

Last season our scout picks won 21.5 vs 15.5 against the Official FPL Scout picks. This season the score is 11.5-10.5 heading into GW23, with the Official FPL Scout selection leading.

FPL GW23 Scout Picks

FPL GW23 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Leno up against Burnley(A) takes the gloves in our GW23 Scout team. Leno has made 80 saves this season- 3rd Highest among all GKs this season. Leno and Fulham have kept 6 clean sheets this season and Leno’s bonus points in these games read as 2, 2, 0, 3, 0, 3. This suggests that Leno is likely to be on Bonus Points whenever Fulham keep a clean sheet. Leno is also Joint Top for Bonus Points among all GKs this season(12).

The chances of a clean sheet looks good as well as Burnley are struggling for goals. Since GW12, Burnley are ranked 20th for xG and 19th for Big Chances in the league.

FPL GW23 Scout Picks – Defenders

Alexander Arnold made his return from injury and played 22 minutes vs Chelsea in GW22. Despite Bradley putting in an impressive performance(Goal, 2 assists, 21 points), we expect TAA to be back in the starting lineup vs Arsenal- Either replacing Bradley as RB or even playing in midfield. His chance creation has been elite in recent weeks as he has Created 31 chances, 8 Big Chances created since GW13- Highest among all the Defenders.

Even though Spurs have only one clean sheet from the last 11 games, Pedro Porro is once again one of the Top Defender Picks in our FPL GW23 Scout Picks. Even with only one clean sheet, Porro has 7 returns during this time thanks to his 6 assists which ranks Highest among all players during this time. Since GW10, Porro is ranked 1st for xGI(5.3), 1st for xA(3.88), 1st for Shots(24), 2nd for Big Chances created(8) among Defenders in the league. Porro is essentially an attacker playing as a defender.

Trippier rounds up the defense in the Scout Selection. Trippier did get an assist, and 2 bonus in the 3-1 over Villa in GW22. Having played Villa, City, and Liverpool in the last 3 games, better fixtures await Newcastle where Trippier could return to form. They play Luton(H), Forest(A), and Bournemouth(H) in the next 3 games.

Matchup alert:

• Luton are 3rd worst for xGC conceded from set plays(8.5) so far this season, Newcastle are meanwhile are 4th best for set play xG(8.29) and set play goals(9) this season which gives Trippier an excellent matchup as he is on set-pieces and corners.
• Luton Town have also conceded 29 Shots from set-pieces this season- Highest among all Premier League teams.

FPL GW23 Scout Picks – Midfielders

Richarlison against Everton(A) is a no-brainer pick considering the form he is in right now. Since GW16, No player in the league has more goals(7) and more FPL Points(56) than Richarlison averaging 8 points per game. Richarlison is also Top for xG(3.99), Big Chances(7) among Midfielders during this time.

Anthony Gordon returns to the scout picks after a few gameweeks of absence, the Magpies star will be facing Luton Town at home. Gordon has a stellar record at home scoring 6 goals and picking up 5 assists in 11 home games so far this season, he’s also the 2nd highest-scoring midfielder at home this season with 76 points only behind Salah.

Luton are meanwhile without a clean sheet in away games so far this season and are 2nd for xGC in away games (24.6)

Newcastle are about to begin a kind run of games and have a lot of their injured players close to returning as well which will strengthen their team. Gordon is an excellent option for FPL GW23 and beyond.

Palmer is another no-brainer option in the scout picks this week, Chelsea are up against Wolves who lost 4-3 to Man United on Thursday night. Chelsea too suffered a heavy defeat at Anfield but Nkunku on the score sheet was a positive for the Blues.

Since making his full debut in GW7, Palmer has registered 100 points(9 goals and 5 assists) which is the 2nd highest among all players. Looking at the numbers in the last six games the Chelsea attacker has registered an nPxGI of 4.45 which is the 2nd highest amongst all midfielders.

KDB wraps up the midfielders list this week, the Man City star completed 90 minutes for the first time this season and looked in good touch. Since his return from injury, he has picked up a goal and two assists in just 91 minutes. Haaland is also returning back from injury and we all know how destructive the duo could be together.

FPL GW23 Scout Picks – Forwards

Haaland returned from injury in GW22 and got 19 minutes in the game against Burnley. He looks to be fully fit and Pep Guardiola also confirmed that he is ready to start in GW23 vs Brentford. Haaland needs no introduction- He has 14 goals, 5 assists from 16 appearances this season and is also confirmed to have a Double Gameweek in GW25. He should be easily your Top Transfer Target for FPL GW23 if you don’t have him in already.

Brentford are the only side in the Premier League without a clean sheet since GW11. All other teams have managed to keep at least one clean sheet during this time. They have also conceded 2.18 goals/game during this time which is the worst in the league. Haaland takes the armband in our Scout team as he also Tops our Highly successful Captaincy Metrics.

Solanke is in the form of his life- Getting 13 goals and 1 assist this season. In fact, only Haaland(14) and Salah(14) have more goals than Solanke(13) in the Premier League this season. Since GW12, Solanke is Top for Goals scored(9), Top for xG(7.3), 2nd Highest for Big Chances(12) in the league.

Solanke also produced a 17-point haul courtesy of 3 goals- The last time Bournemouth played Nottingham Forest.

Watkins rounds up our GW23 Scout Picks team. Watkins got a goal in the 1-3 loss vs Newcastle in GW22 and now has 10 goals, and 11 assists from 22 games this season almost averaging a return every game. Sheffield United have conceded 54 goals this season from an xGC of 43.14- Both these numbers are comfortably the worst in the league. Not just for GW23, the fixtures are kind for Watkins till GW30 which makes him a set-and-forget pick who will consistently tick along.
