FPL GW22 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered
1) Which Man City players should you buy this week?
Erling Haaland hasn’t featured in the Premier League since GW16 against Luton and has been out because of an injury.
Haaland has been training in the latest update and will likely be eased back into the starting XI. There is every chance that Haaland can start in GW22. Of course, if you have him, you take a chance and play him.
But if you are without Haaland now, you can wait for another gameweek for additional information. There may be leaks closer to the deadline, and if there is any confirmation of his start, definitely get him in; if not, just get him next week.
Getting KDB, on the other hand, is a slightly easier call to make. 1,300,000+ managers have already transferred him in, and the numbers will be even higher closer to the deadline. He, like Haaland, is also likely to ease in and is not expected to get the whole 90 minutes against Burnley in GW22.
Still, I’d go towards Kevin De Bruyne if I buy one this week.
I understand the appeal of KDB, but I also disagree with managers selling Foden just yet. 250,000+ managers have sold the City attacker. I still believe he is not a sell, and you can even get him instead of KDB if you are looking to save money to bring in players like Trent/Haaland this week or next.
Julián Álvarez is a don’t buy/don’t sell for me. He is likely to get a start in GW22, but the same cannot so easily be said when Haaland returns to the playing XI. It’s for the same reason; it’s okay not to buy him right now and get Haaland directly next week.
In terms of defence, Kyle Walker is the player to get from the Man City team. He has started every game in the league and is an excellent option if you want to make a defender transfer.

2) What to do with Salah and Son?
Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min have missed Premier League action because of their commitment to the AFCON/Asia Cup.
Talking about Salah first, he got injured just before halftime in a group stage game against Ghana in AFCON. This isn’t great news, and Salah hardly gets injured. For somebody playing so many games across a calendar year, coming off injured like that is not a great look.
The murmurs are that he may be back by Liverpool’s DGW25. I don’t know about that. And that is why Salah is a sell right now. Salah’s price is still around £13m, and you can get some serious muscle with that money.
One can easily downgrade and go for the higher upside KDB pick. Man City has some good fixtures with the double in GW25 (Chelsea, Brentford). You can even get the much safer Foden or Jota if you already have Foden. This move can also help you get to Haaland this or next week.
Son Heung-min is an interesting one! He is facing Saudi Arabia in the Asia Cup, and the match will likely conclude just before the GW22 deadline. That will give us an idea of when Son will return for GW23 or later. He’s one of the best assets to own, with a guaranteed fixture in GW29 and a good fixture run until then.
But if you can’t field a strong enough playing XI while putting him on the bench, sell him this week for a different midfielder. In the worst-case scenario, you can always buy him back around GW27 for a good fixture run.
3) Is it okay to go without Trent Alexander-Arnold?
This is a dilemma I am personally facing from this week onwards. Trent missed out against Bournemouth in GW21 but is expected to be back in the playing XI. So, should we get him back in case we sold him earlier?
The answer is not that straightforward and depends on a few variables. He is still the best defender to target in isolation, but all that advantage comes at a price. He is costing £8.5m right now, and getting him back may not be easy.
With the assumption that many of us still have Salah, and Haaland needs to be brought back, 2 transfers might be more valuable there. I, for one, can’t even afford to get Trent even if I upgrade one of my defenders with the Salah downgrade + Haaland transfer.
With Liverpool not being very strong at the back, there is always a chance for the team to concede goals and lose clean sheets. That makes Trent an even trickier transfer as he heavily relies on attacking returns, which may/may not happen in the coming games.
Trent faces Chelsea and Arsenal in the next two fixtures before the enticing Burnley game in GW24. That’s the money game where you can lose out as a non-owner. Yes, GW25 can be a double but its not confirmed yet and GW26 is a blank gameweek.
Plus the additional money you save by not having him can be utilised elsewhere. It can really be the difference between getting to a KDB in midfield or Haaland without making significant changes to your forwards.
Overall, I do believe, there is a scenario, where you can go without Trent without really getting a massive dent in your rank. Its okay to see it out for the next two gameweeks and see if you really need to get him then.

4) What are the possible chip strategies for the upcoming double/blank Gameweeks?
This is what we currently know!
Double Gameweek 25
MCI vs CHE (H), BRE (H)
BRE VS LIV (H), MCI (A)
*Potential DGW25
LIV vs BRE (A), LUT (H)
LUT vs MUN (H), LIV (A)
Blank Gameweek 26
CHE vs TOT
LIV vs LUT
Fixtures going ahead in GW29
✅ FUL vs TOT
✅ BUR vs BRE
We might have a situation where Chelsea beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup, and both Arsenal and Chelsea will end up blanking in GW29.
*Other possible fixtures (maybe)
✅ Arsenal vs Chelsea/West Ham vs Aston Villa
✅ Wolves vs Bournemouth
✅ Luton vs Nottingham Forest
Note – *These are not confirmed yet
Based on what we know, this is my preferred ‘Chip Strategy.’
Triple Captain – GW25
This is a week where Man City players, especially Haaland, can be a great choice. He will be up against Brentford and Chelsea.
Free Hit – GW29/34/37
I am still deciding which week is the best to play the Free Hit. GW29 can be a huge blank, and because the focus will be to maximise GW25 and navigate blanks in GW26, GW29 planning becomes a bit tricky. Only 2 fixtures are confirmed for GW29; even if more are confirmed, the upside with the Free Hit in GW29 can be limited. Using the chip for the double in GW34/37 may be better.
Wildcard – GW30-33
If you don’t plan to Free Hit in GW29, Wildcard in GW30 is one option. Your team may have slightly weaker players, which is excellent for GW29, but not later. GW31 is another choice, as it can help you load up on players having doubles in GW34/37. You can even use the chip in GW33 and set it up for the double in GW34. Wildcarding earlier than GW30 can be avoided unless your team needs it, and you can’t field a proper team even with a couple of hits.
Bench Boost – GW34/37
Depending on your team and benches, you can ideally choose doubles in GW34 or 37. There is no preference here right now. It is very manager + players dependent.
That will be all from my side for this week! I wish you all the best for FPL Gameweek 22, and I will see you all next week.
