FPL Gameweek 17 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

Who was your Vice Captain last GW? That decision might have shaped your fortunes – well at least for the most of the managers. In other news, popular assets failing to show up against Luton continued:-

  • GW 8 – Son – 3 points
  • GW 10 – Watkins – 2 points
  • GW 11 – Salah – 2 points
  • GW 12 – Bruno – 3 points
  • GW 14 – Mbeumo – 5 points (1 assist)
  • GW 15 – Saka – 5 points (1 assist)
  • GW 17 – Haaland – 0 points (absent)

Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle all lost as well. Because of so many fluctuations, it was a GW with huge swings in overall ranks for most of the managers. Which makes planning for future GWs even more interesting.

So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 17 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Marcos Senesi (£4.4m) – DEF, Bournemouth – 2.2% TSB

FPL Gameweek 17 Players to Buy- Senesi

Most managers are having a nightmare with defence with

  • Suspensions (Trippier, Digne, Taylor)
  • Injuries (Mitchell, Estupiñán, James, Chilwell, Botman, Burn)
  • Bad form (Cash, Andersen, Guehi)

Senesi can be a shrewd short to medium term solution. In the last 5 GWs, among defenders, Senesi ranks

  • 1st for Goals
  • 2nd for FPL points
  • 2nd for Bonus
  • 3rd for BPS
  • 6th for xG
  • 6th for xGI

Bournemouth ranks 2nd in terms of FDR both in the short term (GW 17-19) and medium term (GW 17–24)

Senesi is the 2nd most transferred in defender this GW which has seen him increase in price already. I won’t be surprised if there’s a further price rise within these 3 GWs courtesy a few clean sheets and/ or goals.

Pedro Porro (£5.4m) – DEF, Spurs – 17.0% TSB

FPL Gameweek 17 Players to Buy- Pedro Porro

If we look at defenders, Porro ranks

  • 1st for Shots
  • 2nd for xA
  • 2nd for Assists
  • 2nd for GI
  • 2nd for BPS
  • 3rd for xGI
  • 3rd for Big Chances Created
  • 3rd for Shots in the Box

He is in red hot form providing 4 assists in the last 5 games. Porro is the most transferred in defender this GW and the reason is apparent when you look at Spurs’ fixture list till end of the year

I suggest buying Porro for gaining an advantage over your mini league rivals.

FPL Gameweek 17 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Raheem Sterling (£7.1m) – MID, Chelsea – 11.6% TSB

FPL Gameweek 17 Players to Buy- Sterling

Chelsea’s incredible run of fixtures started last GW against Everton. However, Chelsea lost 0-2 with Sterling managing just 1 point courtesy an appearance from the bench. This has led to over 60,000 managers transferring out the Englishman.

However, Sterling is Chelsea’s leading FPL scorer and should be back in the starting XI against last boys Sheffield United at home. Sheffield United is shambolic as a defensive unit. They are ranked:-

  • 19th for Big Chances conceded
  • 19th for xG conceded
  • 19th for xGNP conceded
  • 20th for Shots conceded
  • 20th for Shots in the Box conceded
  • 20th for Shots on Target conceded
  • 20th for Goals conceded

Lastly, Sterling has an incredible record against promoted teams this season:-

  • GW3 vs Luton – 19 points
  • GW8 vs Burnley – 16 points

So, HOLD Sterling

Anthony Gordon (£6.2m) – MID, Newcastle – 24.7% TSB

FPL Gameweek 17 Players to Hold- Gordon

Two consecutive blanks and a yellow flag has led to more than 45,000 managers selling Gordon before GW17.

“He said he had an awareness of something in his hamstring. We’re not sure if it’s an injury because he could still sort of play, but he couldn’t play to the very high level that he has played for a long time. He had an issue [in] full sprinting. Anthony’s a very positive lad, he thinks he’s fine. Let’s see.”” – said Eddie Howe when quizzed about Gordon.

Inconclusive, right? But we have grown used to it now thanks to Pep. The good thing about Gordon is that he is very light on the pocket (unlike Haaland about whom there’s high uncertainty as well). So you can afford to HOLD Gordon for this GW.

Gordon faces Fulham at home. He is yet to blank in a home game this season.

In fact, even beyond GW17, Gordon’s fixtures are very good in the short term – two of them being home games.

So if you have Gordon in your team, HOLD

FPL Gameweek 17 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Bryan Mbeumo (£6.9m) – MID, Brentford – 13.2% TSB

FPL GW17 Players to Sell- Mbeumo

What a change of fortune. Till a few days back, Mbeumo was the most sought after FPL asset; a rank mover and almost competing with the likes of FPL legends like Kane, Mahrez, Vardy and Lundstram for value for money.

This week he is the most sold out midfielder in the game.

Mbeumo is nursing an ankle injury and has no confirmation on his return date. To make matters worse, Brentford blanks in GW18

I would recommend moving Mbeumo on from your team. There are plenty of assets at that price point to consider in this busy Christmas period of fixtures.

Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m) – MID, Man Utd – 11.7% TSB

FPL GW17 Players to Sell- Bruno Fernandes
  • 3 points in the last 3 games
  • 12 points in the last 5 games
  • MUN 19th for xG in the last 5 games
  • Most importantly, suspended for GW17

Do you need more reasons to sell Bruno? Ok here it is: – Man Utd face 3 teams from the Top 5 – Liverpool, Aston Villa and Spurs in next 5 GWs

At that high a price point, Bruno is an easy sell this GW.
