FPL GW13 Scout Picks

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

FPL GW13 Scout Picks - Goalkeeper

Areola takes up the gloves in our GW13 Scout team. Since GW3, Areola has made 37 saves which is the 2nd Highest among all Goal Keepers. There is good chance of clean sheet as well this week as they are up against Burnley who have the 2nd Worst xG(10.04), 2nd least Big Chances(13) and have scored the least goals(9) this season.

In fact, West Ham have 31% chances of a clean sheet in GW13 according to Draft Hound which is the 4th Highest among all teams for this week.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Defenders

FPL GW13 Scout Picks - Defenders

Crystal Palace duo of Andersen and Mitchell are the first picks in defense. Believe it or not- Palace have kept the most clean sheets(5) in Premier League this season on par with Newcastle and Arsenal who have also kept 5 clean sheets this season. Both Andersen and Mitchell carry decent goal threat as seen from a combined 5 Goal Involvements from 12 games so far. In fact, Andersen(2nd) and Mitchell(5th) both feature in Top 5 among Defenders for FPL Points.

They are up against a Luton side who have scored just 10 goals from 12 games so far- Joint 2nd lowest among all the teams this season. Luton are also ranked 18th for Non-Penalty xG in the league with only Sheffield and Burnley behind them. Luton’s poor attack combined with Eagles solid defense means that Crystal Palace are given 38% chances of a clean sheet for GW13- Second Highest among all teams for this week[Draft Hound ].

Reece James is the final pick among Defenders. Even with a tough fixture against Newcastle, Reece James is a good pick considering Chelsea’s upcoming good fixture run. Only Trippier(8) has created more Big Chances than James(5) among Defenders this season. To put things into context, Trippier has played 1039 minutes but James has played only 246 minutes due to injuries. Read more about James in our FPL GW13 Differentials article.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Midfielders

FPL GW13 Scout Picks - Midfielders

Mo Salah is Top the midfield pick for GW13 despite the fixture vs Brentford. He has 10 goals, 4 assists, and 101 points from 12 games averaging 8.41 points/game. Salah(12.0) tops the xGI chart among Midfielders as well. He is also only behind Haaland(13.6) for xGI among all players. Salah’s 14 Big Chances is 2nd overall(only behind Haaland) and 11 Big Chances created is Top Among all players.

Even though Manchester City looks to be a tough fixture on paper, it is not necessarily a tough game for Salah. Salah has a brilliant record vs Manchester City blanking only once in the last 9 games with 7 goals and 3 assists.

Son up against Villa(H) is the next pick. After getting back to back double digit hauls in GW9 and GW10, Son has blanked in 2 consecutive games in GW11 and GW12. Ever since Son started playing as a striker(GW4), Only Salah(11) has more goal involvements than Son(9) among Midfielders. Son should get back to his goal scoring ways against a Villa side who have struggled away from home defensively as seen below.

Villa Home Defense Rank:

  • xGC/90- 6th
  • Big Chances Conceded/90- 4th
  • Goals Conceded/90- 4th

Villa Away Defense Rank:

  • xGC/90- 12th
  • Big Chances Conceded/90- 18th
  • Goal Conceded/90- 15th

Bukayo Saka has played in 11 games this season and has blanked only 2 times getting 4 goals and 6 assists in the process. Only Watkins(8) and Neto(8) have more FPL assists than Saka(6) this season.

Over the last 6 matches, Saka’s GW13 opponent Brentford have conceded 23 chances from their left flank which is the 4th highest among all teams. This is a matchup that Saka would fancy.

Eze rounds up the midfield in our GW13 Scout Selection. Eze missed GW8-GW10 due to injury, but has returned in good form- Getting a goal and an assist in the last 2 games. Eze averages 3.48 shots/90 minutes which is the Highest among all Midfielders- Better than the likes of even Salah(3.27) and Son(2.84). Luton Town have the worst Non-penalty xGC and have conceded the most Big Chances in the league.

Matchup alert: Luton are Top among all teams for Chances Conceded from their right flank(34) and center(28) over the last 6 Gameweeks. This is exactly where Eze operates and would be looking to create havoc once again!

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Forwards

FPL GW13 Scout Picks - Forwards

Haaland has proved his doubters wrong with two 16 point hauls in the last 3 Gameweeks coming against Manchester United and Chelsea. So scoring in a big game should not be difficult for him. Haaland has 13 goals, 3 assists from 12 games this season and comfortably tops all the underlying data like xG, Big Chances and Shots inside the box.

The captaincy pick for GW13 is a close call between Haaland and Salah. At the moment, the arm band is on Haaland in our Scout Selection team. Watch out for our Captaincy Metrics(which should be up soon) and Press Conference/Injuries article before locking in your captain.

Solanke scored 2 goals against Newcastle in GW12 and is in good form. In GW13, he will up against a Sheffield side who are the worst defense in the league- Ranked 20th for xGC, 19th for Big Chances conceded and 20th for Goals Conceded. Not just for this week, Solanke is a good budget pick for Bournemouth’s favorable fixture run till GW19. In fact over the next 3 Gameweeks, Solanke is ranked 4th among Forwards for Expected Points.

Matchup alert: Sheffield United have conceded 53 chances from the center from 12 games this season- Second highest among all teams. This should favour Solanke

Watkins is the final pick in our FPL GW13 Scout Selection. He did get a goal in GW12 vs Fulham, but should have easily had more where he registered 2.0 xGI. He will looking to make amends against a Spurs side who will be without many first team players like Romero, Richarlison, Bissouma, Maddison and Van De Ven. The game is expected to be a high scoring one. Watkins is only behind Haaland for Non-Penalty xGI among Forwards this season!
