The long wait is finally over, welcome to the FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips blog. The third international break is nearing its end and EPL will resume over the weekend. A lot has happened ever since GW12. Australia won the Cricket World Cup defeating hosts India in the finals, Max Verstappen won an entertaining Las Vegas Grand Prix. Still, most importantly – thanks to all your wishes, AllAboutFPL won the 2023 award for the Best Fantasy Football Editorial.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by…. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL GW 13 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Dominic Solanke (£6.5m) – FWD, Bournemouth – 4.2% TSB
Bournemouth are ranked 2nd for FDR from GW 13-19
Solanke is the talisman of this Bournemouth squad. In GW12, he grabbed 2 goals and 13 points against one of the finest defences in the league – Newcastle. He is also the 4th highest-scoring FWD in the game.
In GW13, Solanke faces a SHU team who are ranked
- 20th for Goals Conceded
- 20th for Clean Sheets
- 20th for Shots Conceded
- 20th for Shots in Box Conceded
- 20th for Shots on Target Conceded
- 20th for xG Conceded
- 20th for xGNP Conceded
Solanke has just missed 12 mins of action implying his nailedness which is crucial in a busy festive period. He is also cheap, thus releasing the funds for the big guns like Salah & Haaland.
Crystal Palace Defence
- Marc Guéhi (£4.6m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 5.4% TSB
- Joachim Andersen (£5.1m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 24.0% TSB
- Tyrick Mitchell (£4.7m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 7.0% TSB
- Sam Johnstone (£4.6m) – GKP, Crystal Palace – 6.0% TSB
After a hat trick of Clean Sheets, Crystal Palace have managed just 1 Clean Sheet in 4 matches conceding 9 in the process. So it’s not a surprise to see managers shipping out some Palace defenders. However, 2 of those matches were against Spurs and Newcastle. The biggest reason to go for one of Roy Hodgson’s lads is that they face Luton this week. In fact, Crystal Palace are ranked 2nd in FDR for the next 3 GWs facing Luton, West Ham, and Bournemouth – 3 teams that are in the Bottom Half of the table in terms of xG

Son Heung-min (£9.7m) – MID, Spurs – 40.5% TSB
After scoring 70 points in 7 GWs, Son train hit an abrupt halt with consecutive blanks. Now with his partner-in-crime and chief creator Maddison ruled out, Son suddenly is not a favourite in FPL circles anymore. The fact that he faces Man City in GW14 is not helping his cause either.
However, a little caution might be helpful in this case. Son faces AVL at home. Villa defence has performed quite differently in home and away matches
AVL defence | Home Matches | Away Matches |
xG Conceded | 6.07 | 10.00 |
xGNP Conceded | 6.07 | 10.00 |
xG Conceded Rank | 7th | 12th |
xGNP Conceded Rank | 7th | 14th |
The frustration with Son’s blanks is understandable but there might be more serious areas of concerns in your team with so many injuries and suspensions. The fact that some of the best teams play each other this week also makes Son a not-so-priority transfer.

Jarrod Bowen (£7.7m) – MID, West Ham – 29.3% TSB
Jarrod Bowen has already claimed eight goals so far – one in each of his 6 away matches. He is currently the 3rd highest scorer in FPL in away matches. He faces Burnley in yet another away match.
Bowen played as an OOP centre-forward in Gameweek 12. Hence, the upcoming trip to Burnley looks exciting as Burnley’s defence is ranked:
- 20th for Clean Sheets
- 19th for Goals conceded
- 18th for Shots on Target conceded
- 17th for xG conceded
- 17th for xGNP conceded
Even beyond GW13, Bowen is a stronghold. West Ham are ranked 2nd in terms of FDR (behind the not-so-enticing Burnley)
Bowen is not only WHU’s highest scorer but the 3rd highest-scoring Midfielder as well. The only sore point about Bowen is the yellow flag he is carrying. Bowen missed England’s final Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia because of a minor injury but it seems that the injury is not very serious with Moyes confirming that a decision will be made on Saturday about his involvement. A very reliable WHU source also confirmed that the injury wasn’t too bad!

Matty Cash (£5.2m) – DEF, Aston Villa – 32.9% TSB
Cash has been a disappointment ever since GW3
The Decline of Cash | GW 1-3 | GW 4-12 |
FPL Points | 22 | 23 |
Secondly, Aston Villa are ranked 19th in terms of FDR for the next 4 GWs
Go for Saliba at the same price point or BRE/ CRY defenders if you want to save some cash (pun intended).

James Maddison (£7.9m) – MID, Spurs – 14.8% TSB
James Maddison was electric before he picked up an unlucky ankle injury which has ruled him out until January. With that price tag, you can’t keep hold of someone for 8 GWs (min). Especially when there are good replacements at that price point – Bryan Mbeumo, Moussa Diaby, Bernardo Silva, etc. with good fixtures or a rich vein of form or both.
