The first round of European matches for this season are over. However, Cup commitments loom large in the coming mid-week. This only means more rotation for the clubs. So, managers with a deeper bench strength will be at an advantage. GW5 was mostly a horror show. Hence, managers will be looking forward to bouncing back in FPL Gameweek 6.

FPL Gameweek 6 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Odsonne Édouard (£5.6m) – FWD, Crystal Palace – 5.1% TSB
Before moving to Selhurst Park in 2021, Édouard plundered 52 goals and 22 assists in just 81 games for Celtic in the Premiership. So, the Frenchman surely knows how to score or find the scorer. He took some time to settle down but maybe finally showing his true colors this year for Crystal Palace.
Palace face Fulham at home whose defence are rock bottom so far
- xG Conceded
- XGNP Conceded
- Big Chances Conceded
Edouard is in red-hot form after scoring 3 goals in the last two games. Among forwards, he ranks
- 2nd for Shots
- 2nd for Shots in the Box
- 2nd for Goals Scored
- 3rd for Big Chances
It’s fair to expect a return from the Crystal Palace striker.

Sven Botman (£4.6m) – DEF, Newcastle – 17.0% TSB
Newcastle has had the least big chances conceded in the league so far after facing Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, Brighton, and Brentford so far. That’s 5 of the Top 6 teams in terms of xG.
But now the nightmarish run-off fixtures are over. Newcastle’s next 5 matches are against teams in the bottom half of the table in terms of xG. In fact, the immediate two matches are against Sheffield and Burnley who rank 19th and 20th in terms of xG.
Botman is the highest-scoring Newcastle defender so far and comes £1.9m cheaper than Trippier, who hasn’t done much so far to justify the price tag. Plus, you will need that cash to afford Salah in the coming weeks.
In his press conference, Eddie Howe said there will not be wholesale changes on Sunday, but some players will be rested. My hunch is that Botman is safe having already missed GW4. Botman can be the man to replace Henry in your squads.

FPL Gameweek 6 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
André Onana (£4.9m) – GKP, Manchester United – 22.0% TSB
Onana is the most transferred-out Goalkeeper this week. But do you really want to burn your Free Transfer on a GKP? Onana is undoubtedly a great goalkeeper having been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. He has had a rough start and his display against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League didn’t induce much confidence either.
However, Varane mostly will be back to bolster the defence. Burnley are awful in attack. They rank
- 20th for xG
- 20th for xGNP
- 20th for xG Open Play
- 20th for Shots
- 20th for Shots in the Box
- 20th for Big Chances
- 19th for Shots on Target
- 18th for Goals Scored
Onana, hence is a HOLD for this GW

Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) – DEF, Chelsea – 29.5% TSB
Chilwell started all the 4 games before he was surprisingly benched against Bournemouth. His replacement on the wing was Mudryk who offered very little in attacking involvement. To put it in context, even Colwill had a higher xGI than Mudryk in GW5.
Chilwell still ranks in the elite category in terms of attacking threat. Among defenders, Chilwell ranks
- 1st for xA
- 2nd for xGI
- 3rd for Big Chances Created
- 3rd for Shots Inside the Box
- 4th for Shots
Aston Villa has conceded the 3rd highest goals in the league so far and Chilwell can make merry if he starts. I suggest a HOLD for Chilwell for this GW. If he is benched again, you can look at selling him.

FPL Gameweek 6 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Rico Henry (£4.6m) – DEF, Brentford – 5.0% TSB
How fortunes turn in the blink of an eye.
Not so long ago, Rico Henry was on the fringes of an England call-up. There were rumors linking him to make a switch to Man Utd to cover for Luke Shaw. After 9 points in 2 GWs, he even saw a price rise with favorable upcoming fixtures.
However, against Newcastle, he suffered a serious injury which will possibly rule him out of the entire season. He had 37 starts last season in a Brentford defence which conceded the 5th fewest goals in the league. This season too, he started all the games so far.
But such is fate! Managers should look to swap Henry with Botman as the best like-to-like replacement (at least in terms of price).

Gabriel Martinelli (£7.9m) – MID, Arsenal – 7.8% TSB
Speaking of fate, we have Martinelli.
Martinelli scored a beautiful goal against Everton which was eventually chalked off for Offside and minutes later he had to come off owing to an injury. He is still a risk for this weekend and will be assessed before the game.
His form has not been great either. Last season, before getting injured in GW36, Martinelli was ranked 6th for xGI among midfielders. This season he is ranked 43rd.
Last but not the least, his fixtures are not the most lucrative with Spurs, City, and Chelsea in the next 4.
He has already dropped once in price and managers might decide to cut losses and make a move for the likes of Mbeumo.
