FPL GW6 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

1) How to structure your FPL GW6 Wildcard team?

How to structure your FPL GW6 Wildcard team?

Wildcarding in GW6 is going to be popular! To move ahead of the rest, it becomes critical to nail the structure of your team, as this team will stay with you for the next 15-16 gameweeks.

From what I have seen this season, going heavy in defence doesn’t make sense. Even for a defender like Trippier, there are alternatives like Schar and Botman from the Newcastle defence. I would recommend getting at least one Newcastle defender on a Wildcard.

Furthermore, you can double up on your existing Newcastle defender or stick with Estupinan from Brighton. They are not keeping many clean sheets, but Estupinan is excellent going forward and ranks 3rd for xGI among all defenders this season.

In the £4.5-5m defender options, there is Matty Cash from Aston Villa. He appeared only from the bench vs Legia Warszawa in the Europa League. You can even look at Udogie from Tottenham. The following two games are tricky, but he is an okay long-term hold. I would not look at any other defenders and preferably play a back 3 with the above picks.

In midfield, Saka is a good hold. He has looked in good touch and came away with 1G+1A in the midweek CL game against PSV. The other must-have player on Wildcard would be Mohamed Salah. He has returned in every game this season, getting 2G+4A, and ranks 2nd for xGI among all MIDs.

The other preferred pick in midfield will be in the budget category. I am looking at Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. He is nailed in the Brentford attack and is also on penalties. My preferred £6.5m-ish midfielder in the game right now.

The other two positions are fluid. You can go with Rashford if you believe in the Man Utd attacker despite the team not playing well. Maddison/Son are good picks from Tottenham, but they do have a couple of tricky fixtures coming up (Arsenal in GW6 and Liverpool in GW7)

If you are looking at differentials, Moussa Diaby is a great pick to cover the Aston Villa attack. He has been playing well. Many managers might get him in GW8, but you can get ahead of the curve by bringing him in early by a couple of gameweeks.

Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse are great differential picks from West Ham, with a great run of fixtures coming soon. Only a few managers are looking at either, and you can risk it with either. I prefer Bowen as he is more direct and explosive.

Another interesting differential can be Jérémy Doku from Man City. The City attacker has started the last two games in the Premier League and was rested in the CL game midweek. He came on for Bernardo Silva, who could be out for a few weeks. It’s a risk going with Doku as Pep can very well bench him for any attacker, but it’s a high-risk-high-reward strategy.

Looking at forwards, Erling Haaland is pretty much a lock, and you can double down on the Man City advantage with Julián Álvarez. He is priced only £6.9m in the game right now, which is excellent value. He ranks 4th for xGI among all forwards and is a great pick despite some rotation risk.

If you don’t want to go with Alvarez, you can look at Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa. He is a nailed starter and is expected to be a key figure in the Villa attack. With good fixtures coming up, Watkins has a lot to gain, and he is a solid option among forwards.

If you want to play 3 up top, there is Morris from Luton, but I am not entirely sold on him. You can get him in for the Double Gameweek in GW7, but playing with 2 forwards is the right long-term play. You can take advantage of so many good midfielders, and that is where the points lie right now.

2) Which premium-ish players to buy/sell/hold?

Which premium-ish players to buy/sell/hold?

This is the million-dollar question right now. Most FPL managers need help understanding which premium-ish players to buy/sell/hold.

If you have Ederson in goal, I’d recommend holding him as he is still Man City’s most nailed defensive pick.

Starting with defenders, there are no premium defenders worth targeting. Kieran Trippier comes close, but with cheaper alternatives available, the value he provides isn’t very high. It’s okay to sell Chilwell for more affordable picks, i.e. Botman, Schar, etc. You can invest that additional money in midfield. Liverpool’s Robertson is definitely on my watchlist, and he can be an option from GW8/9 onwards, but right now, it’s a wait-and-watch with him.

Coming to midfielders, I can make a case to hold all Saka, Rashford and Son. Saka is a definite hold, and I’d only recommend selling the likes of Rashford/Son if that helps you to upgrade to a Mohamed Salah. For me, he is a must-have right now. He has been playing well, and there is merit in jumping onto him right away.

Though not super premium in price, I would sell players like Fernandes, Sterling, Martinelli and even Foden. Better alternatives are available right now, and it’s okay to let these players go.

Haaland is the only premium forward in the game, and of course, you have to keep him in your FPL team. All other picks can be shuffled around.

3) What double-ups do you target right now?

What double-ups do you target right now?

Double-ups are always a great way to differentiate from the crowd and double down on any potential advantage in FPL. You can double up on the Newcastle defence with picks like Schar and Botman. Newcastle has excellent fixtures coming up, and you can benefit from the double defence in the short to medium term. (at least till GW10)

If you want to go aggressive, you can double up on the Arsenal attack with a strong midfield combo of Saka + Trossard. Martinelli missed the CL game against PSV and is expected to be out for some time because of a hamstring issue. Trossard is an excellent short-term punt and can considerably boost your FPL rank.

Another double-up option in attack in Haaland + Alvarez. This is going to be quite popular this week. Most managers on a GW6 Wildcard will go here, and it is a great choice. Man City is an elite attack and ranks 1st for xG this season. They are 2nd for total goals scored in the PL this season, and these nos can only get better.

4) Is it time to get back to Mohamed Salah ahead of FPL GW6?

FPL GW6 Tips & Preview ~ Is it time to get back to Mohamed Salah ahead of FPL GW6?

Mohamed Salah is back in the must-have conversation, having returned in every game this season. His returns are 5,5,5,8, and 10, and things look good for the Liverpool attacker. Salah ranks 2nd for FPL points and xGI among all MIDs. He is Liverpool’s top-scoring attacker, and that cements his place in our FPL teams.

Talking about Liverpool, they rank only 6th for xG and 4th for actual goals scored this season. With better fixtures coming up, these numbers should improve, and we know Salah will be a crucial element.

There is one problem with Salah, though. It’s his price! He is £12.5m in the game right now, and getting him in will likely need a couple of sacrifices. You will probably go very cheap with your goalkeepers and may even have to downgrade a Trippier to Schar/Botman.

Going with Salah also means fitting in all of Rashford, Saka, Son, and Sterling will be very tricky. You will have to pick and choose your premium-ish midfielders, and there are chances of getting it wrong. That is one downside, for sure!

5) What to do with Chelsea FPL picks before FPL Gameweek 6?

FPL GW6 Tips & Preview ~ What to do with Chelsea FPL picks before FPL Gameweek 6?

Chelsea’s start to the season has been underwhelming, with only 1 win in 5 games, including defeats against Nottingham Forest and West Ham. There has been a lot of hype around players like Chilwell, Gusto, Sterling, and Jackson, but it has not worked out for most of these players apart from that one big haul.

The Blues face teams like Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley in the next 3 games, and FPL managers need more patience with their FPL options.

Let’s talk about the defence first. Ben Chilwell is an okay hold. He is still 2nd highest for xGI among all defenders. It’s not his performances I am worried about. I am unsure whether he will start every game, especially if Mauricio Pochettino thinks of him as a left-winger.

Malo Gusto is facing a similar problem in terms of minutes. For the short term, he looks okay, but Reece James will return to the lineup when fit. That is precisely when Gusto loses his place, but if you want some Chelsea defensive cover and don’t want to go as high as Chilwell, Gusto is a fair pick.

In attack, we have a lot of managers who have doubled up on Sterling and Jackson, and it’s a challenging situation.

I am more inclined to sell Jackson than Sterling right now. Jackson has recorded great underlying stats, but they are far from his actual returns. He has 3+ xG but has 1 goal to show for it. He has had 7 big chances but has failed to convert most of them. Plus, he is already on 4 yellow cards this season and will likely miss out on a game due to suspension very soon.

With Alvarez presenting himself as a strong alternative, letting go of Jackson is the right call.

I am a bit more 50-50 on selling Sterling. He has been one of the best players for Chelsea in attack this season, and I am okay with giving him another chance this week against Aston Villa. The games after GW6 are against Fulham and Burnley, and it might make sense to hold him for a bit longer, especially if he shows signs of potential this week.

That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for FPL Gameweek 6, and I will see you all next week.
