FPL GW37 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

1) Who are the best FPL DGW37 players to target?

We have a Double Gameweek for teams like Brighton, Chelsea, Man City and Man United in GW37, and FPL managers are considering this an opportunity to take a few risks with their team. The question remains: who are the best DGW37 players to target?

This is a perfect window if you are a risk-taking manager who likes to chase the upside. You can go for higher upside picks and chase FPL points.

There is more value in targeting attackers at the moment. Unless you can’t field a decent back three, at the very least, making defenders transfer can be avoided. Most of us are already doubled up on the Brighton attack. Look out for midfielders/forwards from Man Utd and Man City and try to ascertain the possibility of a haul.

If you are playing safe, options like Rashford (back in training, but a doubt due to illness) and Fernandes are great players to cover any rank loss. Both are popular picks and must-have options if you are trying to consolidate your rank/position. Coming to Brighton and Mitoma and Mac Allister are safe picks if you want to play defensively and protect your position in your respective mini-leagues.

On the other hand, if you are chasing, you can look at players like Riyad Mahrez/Phil Foden or even Julián Álvarez from Man City if you have a striker slot open this week. Man Utd has Antony if you are going a bit aggressive and are maybe betting on Rashford getting limited minutes or cannot afford Fernandes. Brighton has Julio Enciso if you are looking to go for a budget differential.

2) How to set up your Free Hit team in GW37?

Only some FPL managers still have the Free Hit chip available and can stay ahead of the curve by using it this week to take advantage of the double in GW37. Using the Free Hit now can help you set up the ideal team for GW37 without taking any hits.

Your Free Hit team’s core will be around Brighton, Man City and Man United players. Getting triple-ups from these teams will help you attack the good fixtures in GW37.

Liverpool doesn’t double but does have a good fixture against Leicester this week. You can get in players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah and play them to protect rank. The more aggressive strategy will be to go KDB/Fernandes instead of Salah and maximise for doublers this week.

Overall, you need to consider how safe (template) or risky you want to go with your overall chip, and based on that, you can start building your team for this week.

3) Is it worth going for 3 Man City players this week?

Ederson is an option starting with the goalkeeper as he is generally nailed in goal, but we have seen in the past seasons that once City wraps up the league, there can be rotation even in goal.

Man City can seal the title against Chelsea, the first game of the double gameweek. There is a high possibility of rotation against Brighton, and we don’t get the two games as expected from Ederson.

Then we have Ruben Dias, who looks like the most nailed pick in the Man City defence. He has only missed out on 1 start since GW23 but doesn’t have much-attacking upside. Plus, he is also costing £6m, and saving a bit here can help you go aggressive in attack.

John Stones is an interesting one. He is playing a slightly central role like Trent and has benefited from the same, scoring 2 goals in GW31 and 33. There can be rotation with Laporte also in the mix, and it’s risky.

Coming to midfield, selecting one player is very difficult as rotation is expected among all picks. Jack Grealish was our preferred Man City midfielder option earlier in the season. Grealish has been getting regular game time this year. But he played both games against Real Madrid in the Champions League and may get rested for the first game against Chelsea. Grealish is not a very inspiring pick this week, and more attacking alternatives are available.

Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez are high-upside picks and can be options if you are chasing massively or trying to catch up on your mini-league rivals. Mahrez has started the last 4 games for Man City, getting 5 assists and scoring 27 points simultaneously. Foden also has started the last two, getting an assist to his name.

We also have Kevin De Bruyne, the best premium differential midfielder in the game for GW37. He has only started 1 of the last 4 games, and his minutes will be managed this week. Considering there are more nailed options in Fernandes/Salah, I’d avoid buying KDB this week.

Assuming everyone owns Erling Haaland, the second striker spot can be Julián Álvarez. He only costs £6.1m and can be a great differential to climb ranks this week. The Man City attacker, who can play in several positions, has started the last 4 games scoring 1G+1A and looks in great touch whenever he plays. Like other MIDs, he can also face some rotation problems, but that is the risk you take. He is expected to start at least one and is likely to come from the bench in the 2nd game.

Overall, it’s okay to go for the Man City triple, and I would go triple attack right now. Haaland, Grealish and one of Foden/Mahrez is an aggressive but high upside triple up from Man City.

4) Is it okay to sell Salah to get Fernandes in FPL GW37?

Mohamed Salah ranks top among MIDs for FPL points this season and is the 3rd highest-scoring player, just behind Haaland and Kane. He has 30 attacking returns (19G+11A) and has single-handedly led Liverpool in the attack. Considering his price, he is occupying a premium slot among midfielders right now.

The issue with Salah is that he has no double gameweek this week, and Liverpool will only work if he is firing. The alternate premium picks to go for are Bruno Fernandes/KDB. Both have an extra fixture this week and may outscore the Liverpool attacker.

The situation becomes even more tricky because many managers can only field two premiums and might have to choose one between Salah/Fernandes as per the structure of their team. The more aggressive option right now is selling Salah and getting Bruno for the double GW37. Also, if you plan to captain Fernandes, the argument for getting him this week becomes more convincing. It’s a considerable risk going against Haaland for captaincy, but it might pay off if you are chasing.

Overall, Salah is in better FPL form than Bruno, and it may not be a huge difference between the two over GW37-38. I will aim to get Bruno alongside Salah. If not, depending on my mini-league position, I’d take a call.

If the aim is to gain rank, I don’t think Fernandes is a must-have, and Salah can easily match or even outscore Fernandes despite having a single fixture this week.

5) What to do with Marcus Rashford this week?

Marcus Rashford has been a massive part of Man United’s success in attack, getting 23 attacking returns for the 2022/23 season. He is the 4th highest-scoring MID, only 2 points behind Martinelli from Arsenal, who is 3rd on the list.

Marcus Rashford missed out against the Wolves in GW36 and is already sold by more than 400,000+ before the GW37 deadline. Rashford is back in training and has trained all week, however in a new twist he’s now reported ill today and is now a doubt to play Bournemouth on Saturday according to Ten Hag. It’s a crucial game for Man United in the race for the top four and it is expected that Ten Hag will play him even if he’s not fully ready.

If you have him surely hold him, if you don’t have him it gets a bit tricky to choose between Rashford and Bruno. Bruno is expected to play 180 minutes surely but if Rashford starts both games then he’s a greater goal threat. Captaincy on Rashford has also got tricky with him being not guaranteed to start vs Bournemouth Whereas Bruno is an excellent captaincy choice especially given that he’ll be guaranteed to start both games.

That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for FPL Gameweek 37, and I will see you all next week.
