FPL Gameweek 31 has thrown up an interesting transfer scenario. With a lot of teams looking fairly similar with or without the popular WC-BB strategy, GW31 feels like a point where there are a lot of viable branches. Managers set on a Free Hit in GW32 would logically opt to target City assets and avoid Arsenal assets while being in no hurry to load up on Liverpool while managers without that intended chip usage will be looking at options from Arsenal, Liverpool and even Crystal Palace with some interest.
The suggestions dropped here are general advise – at this time more than ever, tailor your transfer moves to best suit your squad and transfer strategy.

FPL Gameweek 31 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Mohamed Salah (12.8, MID, Liverpool)
Salah comes into GW31 on the back of 4 games where he scored twice, missed two penalties, was benched once and even booked once. It’s been a mixed bag but above all – its been lively in the way prospective buyers in FPL would want it to be. Salah recorded a phenomenal 2.14 xG against Arsenal. Himself. Despite a benching recently against Chelsea in an abject Liverpool display, Salah has found the back of the net against both Manchester City and Arsenal and accumulated 14 shots in his last 4 games (10 were against Arsenal).
He’s a viable captaincy option in GW31, GW32 and GW34 and hence sits atop the ‘Buy’ list for me this week. Liverpool also have a excellent Double in GW34- West Ham(A), Spurs(H).
Liverpool’s Home record is really good(as seen below) and they play 4/5 games from GW32 at home. Salah’s Home record is also fabulous- 5 goals, 2 assists, 50 FPL points from 6 home games since World Cup break averaging 8.33 points/game.

Jack Grealish (7.1, MID, Manchester City)
Grealish is coming into goal returns at the perfect time for FPL managers. Grealish has looked terrific since the World Cup and even though I haven’t had the chance to delve deeper into this, I think he’s being allowed to cut inside the influence the final third more now that the loaned-out Joao Cancelo isn’t inverting into those kinds of positions.
Grealish has 8 shots and 8 key passes in his last 4 games and in a team with a permanent caveat of Pep rotation, Grealish looks fairly secure at the moment, especially with Foden’s injury but he’s done enough to suggest he’s likely to continue to be preferred even after Foden is fit again. Chasing Arsenal for the title, City can’t afford to drop points and that might mean lesser rotation than expected. City also have the most fixtures remaining of any team in the league and even more so for managers who will FH32 when they blank. Grealish has started 13/15 league games since the World Cup break.
Grealish is heading into GW31 on the back of consecutive Double Digit Hauls- 12 points vs Liverpool in GW29 and 12 points vs Southampton in GW30!

FPL Gameweek 31 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
James Maddison (8.2, MID, Leicester City)
HOLD only if you don’t have Free Hit for GW32 and you already have Martinelli/Saka/Both.
Maddison was a transfer in that I was greatly excited about and it’s fair to say he’s been a big disappointment. The Leicester playmaker has got 1 goal return since GW24 and failed to show up in 2 huge games for Leicester City in the past 2 weeks eventually resulting in manager Brendan Rodgers getting sacked and the club facing a realistic threat of relegation.
On top of that, an away trip to Manchester City this week makes it look like a good fixture to sell Maddison. However, especially in light of the murky Rashford injury news, I’m suggesting to hold onto Maddison. Despite the hardest fixture of the season this GW, Maddison follows this up with 3 favorable fixtures in which Leicester, under new management, will be desperate to get results. He has a good fixture in the reduced blank GW32 for those not on Free Hit for that week and even for those who are, his fixtures in GW33 and 34 mean that he could do the business while precious transfers are instead shunted towards bringing in the likes of Salah or a fit Manchester United attacking player.

Luke Shaw (5.1, DEF, Manchester United)
Luke Shaw has made progress on the injury he sustained against Brentford and could even be available to play against Nottingham Forest. Even if he fails to return this week, he should return by GW33 and be fully fit for DGW34. Since DGW34 is the prime week for this United defender spot, it doesn’t seem wise to waste a precious transfer to move him on now when he could be back for a good set of fixtures. Hold.

Marcus Rashford (7.2, MID, Manchester United)
Rashford has arguably been the best player to own on FPL since the world cup break and was being mooted as a genuine armband option again in DGW34. However, his injury seems to have come at a difficult time and the news of his expected recovery is mixed and unclear. It has been pointed out that even the GW33 deadline would be before the likely press conference update from Ten Hag for those midweek games making Rashford a risky hold given we might go into 3 or more GWs with him sitting on the bench without even knowing if he’s fit and back for prime DGW34.
Even if he returns earlier, his minutes will be managed with the aim of not aggravating the groin injury.
Manchester United’s upcoming schedule:
Date | Fixture and Competition | Opponent |
April 16 | GW31 | Forest(A) |
April 20 | Europa League Leg 2 | Sevilla(A) |
April 23 | FA Cup Semifinals | Brighton |
April 27 | GW33 | Tottenham(A) |
April 30 | DGW34 Game 1 | Villa(H) |
May 4 | DGW34 Game 2 | Brighton(A) |
May 7 | GW35 | West Ham(A) |
The common consensus on social media seems to be to hold Rashford and hope he recovers in time for the double and sell Maddison instead but personally, I think I’d rather do the inverse.

Kai Havertz (7.5, FWD, Chelsea)
For the lack of many clear-cut sell suggestions this week, I’m taking one that’s an easier sell than most popular FPL assets. Havertz saw strong interest in light of Chelsea’s kind fixtures and doubles but as feared, the German amassed his regularly good underlying numbers but couldn’t back it up with point returns in recent games.
Graham Potter, who favoured Kai as his centre forward, has been sacked and while Lampard may continue to persist with him, there have been some suggestions that he’s eyeing up more minutes for Aubameyang. Chelsea also haven’t scored in the last 500-550 odd minutes of football as they navigate a turbulent season.
Sell.
