Using the FPL wildcard chip this week ahead of FPL GW27 will allow managers to build a team for the doubles in GW27 and GW29 plus the blank in GW28. There are a few chip strategy that could emerge from wildcarding this week and in this blog, we look at different drafts with projections(How the draft will look in GW28, GW29, and GW32 with planned moves).

Key points to note about upcoming Double and Blank Gameweeks

• FPL DGW27: FPL GW27 is a double gameweek with Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Southampton doubling.
• FPL BGW28: Blank gameweek due to FA Cup 6th round(Quarterfinals) with seven confirmed fixtures(Arsenal vs Palace, Villa vs Bournemouth, Chelsea vs Everton, Forest vs Newcastle, Brentford vs Leicester, Wolves vs Leeds, Southampton vs Spurs) and three blanks
• FPL DGW29: FPL DGW29 is the biggest double of the season with 12 teams doubling
• FPL BGW32: Blank gameweek due to FA Cup Semi-finals with currently 7 confirmed fixtures, 4 teams expected to blank which will be known during GW28 weekend which clashes with the FA Cup quarter-finals. Man city vs Brighton, Fulham vs Leeds or Man United vs Chelsea will be two likely blanks in GW32!
• FPL DGW34: 4 or 6 teams could double to accommodate the GW28/32 blanks
• FPL DGW37: 4 or 6 teams could double to accommodate the GW28/32 blanks
• There will also be one mini-double in gameweek 30/31/35/36 when Brighton and most likely Newcastle will Double to accommodate the Brighton vs Newcastle game which was postponed due to the Carabao cup finals.

Summary of the key teams from an FPL GW27 Wildcard Perspective

1. Brighton & Brentford surely double in GW27 and GW29. Brentford have a fixture in BGW28 and have a fixture in BGW32 as well
2. Leicester surely have a game in BGW28 and BGW32 plus have a double in GW29.
3. Eight teams: Newcastle, Leeds United, Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Aston Villa & Chelsea will not blank GW28 and Double in GW29.
4. Six teams: Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton, Palace, Wolves & Everton have a sure game in GW28 but will not double in GW29 
5. Spurs will not blank in GW28 and GW32 but will also not double once again this season.

Teams with a sure game in GW28 and double in GW29:

The below eight teams are confirmed to play in GW28 and have a double in GW29.

• Chelsea
• Aston Villa

Teams with a double in GW27 and GW29:

• Brighton
• Brentford

Teams with a Double in GW29 don’t Blank in both GW28, and GW32:

Brentford is the only team to double in GW27, have a sure game in GW28, double in GW29 and have a sure game in GW32.

Confirmed FPL Double Gameweeks From FPL GW36

Pros and Cons of FPL GW27 Wildcard

Pros:

• Can set up your team for the blank in GW28, GW29 Double as well as GW32 Blank. Can save the Free Hit for later.
• Can use Bench Boost in GW29(with 11-15 Doublers) for the Biggest Double Gameweek of the season.
• You can also remove injury risks and rotation-prone players like Nketiah now that Jesus is closing on a return.

Cons:

• Big gap between FPL GW27 and GW29 with an international break falling between GW28 & GW29 as well and a lot could change in terms of form, injuries, etc. GW29 Bench Boost plan may drop off due to these injuries.
• Benching Dilemma for GW27. Liverpool(vs BOU), Arsenal(vs FUL), Man City(vs CRY) all have good Single Gameweek fixtures and could backfire heavily if you bench the wrong asset.

Players to target on GW27 Wildcard(Team Wise)

• Brighton: Estupinian, Dunk, Mitoma, March, Mac Allister
• Brentford: Toney, Raya, Mbeumo, Mee, Henry, Pinnock
• Spurs: Kane
• Aston Villa: Watkins, Mings, Cash, Buendia (A lot of rotation risk in the rest of defence and attack)
• Chelsea: Kepa, James, Badiashile, Felix, Havertz, and Chilwell. The duo of Chilwell and James are looking good once again in a wing-back formation. Silva is ruled out for 6 weeks due to an injury, while Havertz/James have been confirmed to be the penalty-taker for the blues.

• Arsenal: Gabriel, Martinelli, Zinchenko, Saka, and Odegaard
• Newcastle: Trippier, Botman, Schar, and Almiron
• Bournemouth: Solanke
• Leicester: Iheanacho, Ward, Barnes, Maddison
• West Ham: Bowen
• Nottingham Forest: Johnson, Aurier, Navas, Gibbs White

FPL GW27 Wildcard Draft 1 with Salah

• 5 Doublers for GW27- Estupinan, March, Mitoma, Toney, Raya.
• Can go for Henry instead of Botman if you trust Brentford’s defense more.
• Chilwell (£5.8m) got the assist in the win over Leeds and was instrumental in the lead-up to Chelsea’s first goal vs Dortmund. He’s looking good and fit, a great option to consider. James is equally a good option and could be on penalty duties, if you feel James (£5.8m) is not an xMins risk then you can choose him over Chilwell as well

• Felix could also be Havertz if you prefer Havertz as he’s on penalties for Chelsea.
• Mings could also be a good option to consider as he has a good fixture in GW28, doubles in GW29, and plays in GW32 as well.
• No Haaland is a risk but between GW28-29, Haaland plays once against Liverpool, whereas someone like Watkins/Iheanacho/Felix/Havertz. You can plan to bring him straight back in for GW30 when they play Southampton(A)
• Navas is a great option with a good double in GW29 against Wolves(H), and Leeds(A), could be a great option for a bench boost in GW29.

How the team will look like for FPL BGW28?

• One planned Free transfer: March/Mitoma to Maddison
• 10 players for Blank Gameweek 28

How the team will look for FPL GW29?

• 1 planned transfer. Zinchenko to Shaw
• Bench Boost activated with 14 Doublers and Saka

How the team is likely to look for GW32?(without making any transfers)

8 players with a confirmed fixture already for GW32. You can use the Free Transfers between GW30-GW32 to get 11 players in.

FPL GW27 Wildcard Draft 2 without Salah

• Six doublers for FPL DGW27 with Raya, and Henry. Toney, Mitoma, March, Estupinian.
• If you’re not confident of a Brentford defence double up you can switch Henry to someone like James/Chilwel.

How the team will look like for FPL BGW28?

• No planned transfers and there are 10 players already for FPL BGW28
• If you want to surely play 11 players then you can remove one of the three Brighton players but they double again in GW29 which makes transferring them out not ideal.

How the team will look like for FPL DGW29?

• Two planned transfers with Zinchenko to Shaw and Kane to Havertz.
• 14 doublers plus Saka for the biggest double of the season with bench boost active.

How the team will look like for FPL BGW32?

• The above draft without any further transfers will have 8 players already for GW32, you can then plan to field 1/2 more players using the free transfers.

Concluding thoughts:

You can also work on drafts with Salah + Kane + Haaland(Threemium), or Salah + Kane, or Salah + Haaland. Ultimately it comes down to your ideal balance of doublers for GW29. Haaland and Kane don’t double in GW29, Salah does double but he has City and Chelsea both away from home.
