FPL Gameweek 20 is here and it’s a double gameweek with three of the big six teams(Man United, Man City, and Spurs playing twice this gameweek. Naturally, this also has brought in triple captain discussions this week especially now that potentially Man city might not even double beyond GW23 The doubles later due to FA Cup postponements are also not looking big as a lot of PL teams are already out of the competition. In this blog, we look a the top FPL Gameweek 20 Captain Picks and see who tops our highly successful captaincy metrics.

Double Gameweek 20 Captaincy Metrics
FPL GW20 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
65% of the total votes from the FPL DGW20 Captaincy poll is for Haaland who plays Man United(A) and Spurs(H), the last time Haaland played Man United he scored 23 points in a single game. Rashford is in the form of his life and has picked up an impressive 20% of the votes, he always loves scoring in the big games, especially Man city and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he keeps his impressive goal-scoring run going.
Kane registered 2 goals and an assist in GW19 against Palace and will be itching to score against Arsenal, the only reason he’s third in the votes(7%) is that he’s on 4 yellow cards and one away from suspension.
KDB who has blanked in all three games since the restart and Bruno Fernandes complete the top five from this week’s captaincy poll with 2% votes each and will go into the captaincy metrics.
The five players going into the captaincy metrics are Haaland, Rashford, Kane, KDB and Bruno Fernandes.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 20 Captain picks
Haaland tops the individual numbers in the last six games, he has had a whopping 19 shots on goal out of which 10 have been big chances which means his xG(5.67) is one of the highest in a six-game period since the start of captaincy metrics.
Rashford is second with a healthy xG of 3.03 and is second which bodes well for the ones looking to captain/triple captain someone other than Haaland. Kane has had 16 shots inside the box with an xG of 2.44 in the last six games and is third in the individual numbers.
Bruno and KDB are more of creators with 19 and 23 chances created. This also means they are always going to be in the bottom as their xG is low.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Man city are top once again but the margin is close. Man United(21) have even uplifted Man City(19) from the top spot for most big chances, the lack of shots in comparison to Man city meant City edged past United in terms of xG.
Spurs have been a bit inconsistent in the last six games which means they are way off Man United and Man City.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW20
In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates.
We will use Drafthound’s odds for a Team scoring at least One goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.
Since it’s a double gameweek the odds are always going to be high as it’s two games. Having said that Man city’s odds are soo good and high, they have an astonishing 98% chance of scoring one goal and a 64% chance of scoring 2+ goals which are too good to ignore. Man United have 92% and Spurs have an 86% of scoring at least one goal, however, their odds of 2+ goals are only 35% and 21% respectively.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 20 Captain Picks
In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.
Haaland tops the individual projections with a whopping 89% of anytime returns and a 14.2 points projection. KDB is second with an 80% chance of anytime return and an 11.6 points projection. Kane also has good projections with a 70% chance of anytime returns and a 9.8 points projection. Rashford and Bruno are 4th and 5th on projections.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 20 Captaincy metric analysis
In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric.
Haaland tops the metrics with the lowest possible CRF of 4, and KDB is second with a CRF of 8. Rashford is 3rd with a CRF of 12. Kane and Bruno are joint 4th with a CRF of 16.
