FPL Double Gameweek 20 Players To Target | FPL DGW20

FPL DGW20 is a decent double gameweek with four teams doubling. In this blog, @FPL___Insider(Do follow him on Twitter) looks at the best FPL assets to target from the four teams that are doubling: Man City, Man United, Spurs, Crystal Palace.

Confirmed FPL DGW20 Fixtures:

  • MUN: MCI(H)/CRY(A)
  • MCI: MUN(A)/TOT(H)
  • TOT: ARS(H)/MCI(A)
  • CRY: CHE(A)/MUN(H)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target

Man United FPL DGW20 assets

Anthony Martial: 6.6m (TSB: 4.6%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Martial

I wrote about Martial earlier, and despite concluding that I feel there are better options, the move from Mitrovic → Martial makes a lot of sense. Especially if people want to open up funds for a cheap defender, which usually is the easiest route to a DGW player. Past 3 games (below)

GW17: (via sofascore)

  • ▪️ NFO (H)
  • ▪️ 1G from 2 shots, 2 SoT
  • ▪️ 1 BC missed
  • ▪️ 0.52 xG

GW18:

  • ▪️ WOL (A)
  • ▪️ 1 shot, 0 SoT, 1 BC missed
  • ▪️ 1 Key pass
  • ▪️ 0.63 xG & 0.12 xA

GW19:

  • ▪️ BOU (H)
  • ▪️ 2 shots, 0 SoT, 1 BC missed
  • ▪️ 0.27 xG

It seems he finds excellent opportunities, but they come scarcely. Two tough teams may prove difficult for MUN, but in good form, it makes sense to move from a cheaper FWD to Martial even if just for a week. I am quite weary of Martial being benched, but he seems to have the #9 spot for now.

Luke Shaw: 5.1M (TSB: 12.7%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw might be in the FPL HOF for me after these past 3 GWs since the restart. Shaw has picked up 32 pts over 3 GWs. 3 CS, 1G, and 8 bonus pts. He has proved to be a monstrous BPS magnet, which similarly to Dalot can give him 2-3 pts extra for every CS. Additionally, Shaw operates in advanced areas on the left side, picking up opportunities to cross the ball in.

Against WOL(A) & NFO(H), Shaw played at CB to cover WC absentees, but moved back to LB against BOU(H), registering 1 shot, 1G, 2 KP, 0.41 xG, and 0.09 xA. From the eye, Shaw likes to maraud into the box after playing the ball forward, quite similar to his goal. At the moment, Shaw is a clear BUY for DGW 20, will be interesting to see if Dalot can return similarly when fully back.

Marcus Rashford: 7.0M (TSB: 38.3%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Marcus Rashford

Rashford is already highly owned, so I won’t go crazy in-depth on him, but if you don’t have him, BUY him. DGW20 makes it that much easier. Rashford has recorded 7 goals, and 3 assists this season, accumulating 89 pts (only 6 midfielders w/ higher). Stats from the past 5 games:

  • GW19 – BOU(H): 3 shots, 1G, 1 KP, 0.71 xG & 0.10 xA
  • GW18 – WOL(A): 2 shots, 1G, 0.80 xG (sub appearance)
  • GW17 – NFO(H): 3 shots, 1G, 1 KP, 1A, 0.27 xG, 0.12 xA
  • GW16 – FUL(A): 2 shots, 0.52 xG
  • GW15 – AVL(A): 0 shots, 0 KP

Evidently, Rashford is in impeccable form post-restart, and showed this same form during the World Cup. He is flying at the moment and looks unstoppable running at players, the confidence we formerly saw in Rashford seems to be back. He does only take 2-3 shots per game, which suggests his 3G in 3 games is the result of some clinical finishing, but even if this % regresses, I expect him to provide great value at 7.0m. Worth noting, from GW10-14, Rashford picked up 15 shots, in 5 games, accumulating 3.4 xGI but only picking up 1G, and 17 pts. It seems he has found his finishing boots.

Before going further do vote in FPL GW20 Captaincy Poll below. The metrics has a 15/18 successful returns record this season. Do vote in the captaincy poll for this week below. The captaincy metrics blog from @AK_FPL1 will be posted soon based on the votes.

Spurs FPL DGW20 assets

Heung Min Son: 11.6M (TSB: 6.1%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Son

Despite being a very tough option to squeeze in this GW, I feel Son could be a huge differential at only 6.1% tsb. If you want a differential this week he would be my recommendation, as you would expect him to enjoy Spurs’s counter-attacking style against 2 top teams who use a high line. Very capable of massive haul (15+ pts). Past 5 games:

  • CRY (A): 2 shots, 1G, 1 KP, 0.47 xG, 0.05 xA
  • AVL (H): 2 shots, 1 KP, 0.08 xG, 0.07 xA
  • BRE (A): 3 shots, 1 KP, 0.10 xG, 0.10 xA
  • BOU (A): 3 shots, 6 KP, 0.27 xG, 0.82 xA
  • NEW (H): 5 shots, 1 KP, 0.55 xG, 0.05 xA

Not incredible stats for an 11.6m asset, but the majority of those teams operate with a deeper backline, which stifles both TOT’s attack and space for Son to operate. MCI/ARS should prove to be a more suitable fit for Son who enjoys open spaces, and the ability to take on players 1 v 1 into space. Son operated in a more advanced position centrally, while Kane dropped deeper against CRY(A). CRY (A) operated with a higher backline than AVL/BRE which suited Son. If Kane plays deeper to create again, Son is likely the recipient.

Matt Doherty: 4.6M (TSB: 0.7%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Matt Doherty

Doherty is one of my favorite options at the moment. He seems to have nailed down the RWB spot, starting every game since the GW17 restart. Additionally, he was rested yesterday against Pompey in the FA Cup for Emerson, indicating a likely start against ARS (H). I would be surprised to see him benched, watch out for @pookeefe predicted lineup.

From the stats, and most notably the eye, Doherty has been operating in very advanced positions. Practically plays at RW/RF at times, and we know how much Conte loves a marauding RWB. 1G against Palace should be enough for Conte to make him a regular starter after only appearing a few times earlier in the season. Stats from the last 3 games:

  • CRY (A): 4 shots, 1G, 2 KP, 0.34 xG & 0.05 xA
  • AVL (H): 1 shot, 0.18 xG
  • BRE (A): 1 shot, 2 KP, 0.14 xG & 0.16 xA

Impressive numbers for a DEF asset, and even more appealing when you notice his positions on the field. Spurs have recently been in poor form, winning one in the past 4 games. ARS(H) & MCI(A) are very tough fixtures at the moment, but as I said previously, the high line which both teams operate will play into Spurs’s advantage.

Spurs have become a clear counter-attacking team, and this will benefit Son/Kane/Doherty/Perisic massively going forward. I don’t expect 2 CS, but 1 is doable, and attacking returns are very possible. At only 4.6m, Doherty is easy to fit into your squad and a great differential. I’m happy to hold onto Doherty for future games, and can easily rotate him with other players.

Doherty’s heat map (via fffix):

As you can see, Doherty’s position on the field is relatively similar to Perisic, who we know gets into dangerous spots. From the eye, Doherty has managed to find his way into the box more often than not, operating as an extended RF at times. He is solid toward the byline, and often gets very wide, but is much more effective when marauding into the box, as shown by the green patch in the penalty box. Kulusevski, or Bryan Gil which we have seen more recently, are very good at providing width to allow Doherty’s movement central.

xMins is a partial risk, but 3 starts in a row and a rest against Pompey gives me enough hope. Doherty scored in Spurs’s 4-0 win over Palace (A) in GW19, I would be surprised if Conte switched him for Emerson Royal at this point. I’ve wanted Doherty in since GW17, but 3 starts in a row, and 15pts in GW19 has convinced me.

Spurs fixtures from FPL DGW20

Fixtures over the next 5 are not the easiest for Spurs w/ ARS (H) +MCI(A)/FUL(A)/MCI(H)/LEI(A)/WHU(H); however, it opens up after that, and at 4.6 Million, Doherty can easily be benched. I will likely play him in GW20/21/23 and so on. Additionally, many of those teams play high lines which should make their WBs an important role in getting numbers forward on the counter-attack.

Harry Kane: 11.6M (TSB: 30.1%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Kane

Harry Kane is another asset who needs little convincing but due to the difficulty in spreading funds and Haaland being essential, many people will be on the fence. This DGW is the ideal time for Harry Kane. In 14 appearances against MCI, Kane has 4G/3A. More impressively, in 18 appearances against Arsenal, Kane has 14G/3A, unbelievable numbers. Despite getting stick for not being a big game player, Kane still manages the goals, and as said previously under Doherty & Son, the high line may prove advantageous for Spurs, and their attackers in turn.

(via Understat)

As shown above, Kane’s numbers this season have been outstanding. A low of 2 shots across a 10-game period is impressive, accumulating a total of 39 shots in 10 games, avg of 3.9 shots p/g. On top of this, Kane provides a creative outlet recording 15 key passes in 10 games, an average of 1.5 key passes p/g. 22/23: shots p/90 – 3.74, key passes p/90 – 1.73; 21/22: shots p/90 – 3.71, key passes p/90 – 1.34. As you can see, his stats over the past 10 are consistent with his season average p/90, you can expect similar performances. Kane’s xGI over the past 3 seasons:

  • 2022/2023: 0.89 xGI
  • 2021/2022: 0.85 xGI
  • 2020/2021: 0.86 xGI

You can expect much of the same each year from Kane! Usually, his best moments come when he is playing a more advanced position, and less as a creator, and considering his xG p/90 is highest in 22/23 than in 21/22 or 20/21, it looks good. A big differential, and someone to consider putting (C) on if going against Haaland!

Man City FPL DGW20 assets

Kevin De Bruyne: 12.5M (TSB: 36.7%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ KDB

KDB has failed to impress owners with only 6 pts from GW17-19, despite putting up decent numbers. Despite MUN(A)/TOT(H) being tough games, you always expect them to score, and if KDB is given a license to operate in advanced spots he could haul big alongside in the inevitable Haaland. KDB (C)? A hard decision with Haaland likely playing both games alongside him who simply can’t be ignored. If you need a differential, KDB could be your pick, but I find it unlikely for him to outscore Haaland. KDB/Haaland/Cancelo were all rested against Chelsea in the FA Cup today, so you can expect KDB to start both games, especially as MCI has begun to trail behind ARS for the title. Stats across the last 3 games (GW17-19):

  • CHE(A): 4 shots, 3 KP, 0.14 xG, 0.58 xA
  • EVE(H): 4 shots, 5 KP, 0.24 xG, 0.73 xA
  • LEE (A): 3 shots, 4 KP, 0.13 xG, 0.63 xG
KDB heatmap and attempted assists in the last three games(Since restart)

A solid display over the past few games, suggesting owners were unlucky to not get returns. I would be surprised to see KDB not return this DGW. This has been fairly known about KDB for some time, but he tends to take shots from poor positions, evident by his low xG per shot. On the other hand, his assist potential is through the roof, especially with a clinical Haaland on the end of it.

Crystal Palace FPL DGW20 Assets:

Wilfried Zaha: 7.3m (tsb 11.8%)

FPL DGW20 Players to Target ~ Zaha

Zaha is the only option that is worth thinking about in my opinion, simply as he is on Penalties. However, if you’re picking him over Rashford, it’s very insensible IMO. Zaha has done decently this season, with 6 goals & 2 assists so far, but Palace has looked sub-par since the return, and I wouldn’t expect good performances in DGW20. I actually think they’re a great team for MUN to play against. Highly advise not going down this route, but if you already have he’s an easy hold!

That’s it from me this time, do give me a follow on Twitter @FPL___Insider, good luck with FPL DGW20!
