One final gameweek before we head into the mid-season World Cup break and unlimited transfers! I’ve opted to change it up a little and suggest 2 players per position (FWD/MID/DEF) that are worth buying as a single GW punt for the ‘BUY’ section with the rest remaining the same in the FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips blog.

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Players to BUY
Forwards:
Darwin Nunez (8.9, Liverpool) is my favourite GW16 punt as Forward this week. The Uruguayan has an xG of 0.54 and xA of 0.39 per 90 in his last 3 starts and comes up against a leaky Southampton team who’re undergoing a managerial change.
Gabriel Jesus (8.0, Arsenal) comes back into the picture on the back of his 4-yellow card issue not being a worry with just 1 fixture to play before unlimited transfers. Jesus has put up an xG of 0.71 and xA of 0.43 per 90 in his last 3 starts and faces a Wolves team who conceded 3 to Brighton last week.

Midfielders:
Marcus Rashford (6.7, Manchester United) could celebrate his inclusion in England’s World Cup squad in style against Fulham this weekend. Rashford has put up an xG of 0.48 per 90 across United’s last 4 league games and looks likely to do well against a Fulham team that have conceded close to 1.6xGA per game in their last 4.
Leandro Trossard (7.1, Brighton) has been putting up a stellar 0.55 xG and 0.15 xA per 90 in his last 4 games for Brighton who are playing some excellent attacking football and look to have another quality gem in Mitoma. Aston Villa did enjoy a great win against Manchester United in Unai Emery’s first game in charge but we’re unsure how quickly he can turn around their previously far-from-reliable defense – we’re backing Trossard to return well.
Also really like James Maddison to celebrate his England call-up in style for those that can stretch their budget.

Defenders
Ivan Perisic (5.5, Tottenham) passed the eye test with flying colours playing OOP as a striker against Liverpool and in general, always looks likely to do well given that he takes corners which appears to be Spurs’ most likely avenue to a goal. A home tie against Leeds doesn’t look all that good for a clean sheet but the attacking up side from LWB in the potential injury absence of Sessegnon looks a great upside opportunity.
Gabriel (5.1, Arsenal) has been a strong set-piece threat for Arsenal since last season and comes in at a cheaper than his central defense partner William Saliba. As a single-game punt, I like the Brazilian defender against a Wolves team who’ve been poor in front of goal this season and who always has the chance to nick a goal and 15-pointer.

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD
Phil Foden (8.3, MID, Manchester City) has been the ultimate troll this season. Especially for managers who made that move from KDB to Foden bypassing GW12 just in time for them to swap their scoring. Nonetheless, the City midfielder didn’t start their mid-week Carabao Cup game while LW rival Jack Grealish did. It would be foolish to think we could predict Pep but the chances of him starting at home against Brentford at the weekend seem to have increased compared to at the start of the week and owners can prioritize moves elsewhere.
Jarrod Bowen (8.1, MID, West Ham) has been hugely disappointing this season in FPL terms, in general. Despite no returns, he’s putting up 0.52 xGI per 90 in his last 4 appearances. If he continues to put up these numbers, only a matter of time before returns follow.

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL
Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.8, FWD, Fulham) is a sell for me despite stellar numbers this season. The Serbian FWD missed the game against City last week and is currently a fitness doubt for a game against Manchester United this weekend. He can be sold for the aforementioned forwards who have a higher upside.
Mason Mount (7.6, MID, Chelsea) was looking really good in the first few games under Graham Potter but with so much rotation, Chelsea have struggled to get any attacking impetus in their play thus making Mount a sell recommendation from me for his 7.6% ownership.
