FPL GW33 Sunday Fixtures Review
Stats from FFScout
With Leicester City’s progression in Europe, rotation is likely to be rife in the league with them likely playing every 3 days on average from now up until the end of the season and this game was no different, popular captain pick Maddison and Harvey Barnes both started on the bench.
Dewsbury-Hall (4.4, MID) has had a tremendous breakthrough season and he continues to impress at his basement price point with two DGWs still to follow even after this current one. He had an xGI of 0.71 from 3 shots, 1 from inside the box and 1 chance created.
Ayoze Perez and Iheanacho (off the bench) had a shot in the box each but with a big question mark over expected minutes for Leicester City in these positions, investment in these two assets is not recommended as things stand.
Newcastle’s double with two home fixtures looked good on paper and Dubravka, the defense and Wood were well owned going into it.
But the big talking point from this fixture was Bruno Guimaraes (4.9, MID). The deep-lying playmaker has taken on a more box-to-box role and huge credit to popular members of FPL twitter who identified this early on the eye-test and made the move. The Brazilian had a massive xG of 1.67 from 4 shots, all from inside the box including 3 big chances (Even though some may have been within the same ‘play’) and also created 1 chance.
To see evidence of what keen managers were identifying while watching him, we see his heat map from the game showing a strong penalty box presence in addition to his midfield work which is reminiscent of the heat maps seen from the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, who make clever second or third man late runs into the box.
Joelinton (5.8, FWD), playing reverse Out of Position in a new-found midfield role was the only other Newcastle player to register over the xGI threshold with a 0.29 courtesy 3 shots, 1 from inside the box and 3 chances created.
Burnley got a battling point in their first game post-Sean Dyche and after a very quiet spell, it was Wout Weghorst who got the goal for them.
Max Cornet (5.9, MID) was very unfortunate to come away with 0 returns. The midfielder spurned a penalty and had 5 shots, 4 from inside the box, and 1 chance created for an xG of 0.95 and xA of 0.29.
Weghorst (6.4, FWD) delivered in game 1 of this DGW. He had 1 big chance taken from inside the box and 1 chance created for an xGI of 0.91.
Antonio (7.5, FWD) passed the eye-test well for me in this game. He had 7 shots, 6 from inside the box including 1 big chance for an xG of 0.91 and as his heat map below shows, he had one of the highest average positions I’ve seen in a Premier League game for a long time!
Benrahma (5.9, MID) continued his recent run of decent underlying stats with 2 shots, both from inside the box including a big chance and a chance created for an xGI of 0.88.
Soucek (5.7, MID) also had 2 shots, both from inside the box including a big chance and 1 chance created for an xGI of 0.61.
