Welcome to FPL GW29 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.
We had a big Double Gameweek 28 on our hands, with many huge hauls from various players. A few hot prospects prior to the gameweek failed to deliver, but a few other major successes. Many managers opted to play their Wildcard, while others held on with a couple of hits.
This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham. The top 5 transfers OUT come from West Ham, Man City, Liverpool, and Man United.
FPL Transfers GW29 Deadline
Saturday 12th March 2022 at 11:00 AM BST
We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.
RECAP of DGW28 TRANSFER TRENDS
Weghorst (2 points) to Broja (4 points) ❌
Bowen (1 point) to Coutinho (21 points) ✅ 🤯
Mee (0 points) to Rudiger (6 points) ✅
The Coutinho move worked out tremendously well! In hindsight he was a very good captain option indeed! We move onto GW29!
Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW29 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 23/28 record this year. Stay tuned for the DGW29 Captaincy metric to see who tops it.

Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL GW29
Bowen makes it to the top of the transfers out list, with 339k managers ditching him for other midfield options. Dias‘ injury and Cancelo’s doubt makes it no surprise to see 249k and 102k managers respectively transferring the City defense duo out.
Ronaldo’s additional blank against City and his hip doubt sees him transferred out by 87k managers, and Jota’s 3rd consecutive appearance on the bench sees 73k managers look elsewhere.
On the flip side, Arsenal youngster Saka is the hottest prospect prior to the deadline, with 261k managers impressed with his stellar performance against Watford. Chelsea defender James, despite news of his injury, was unfortunately brought in by 223k managers after an amazing haul against Burnley.
Spurs assets complete the remaining spots on the top transfers in list, very likely after their 5-0 thrashing over Everton and their double fixtures in DGW29. Kulusevski makes his debut appearance on the top 5 transferred in players list, with 187k managers opting for him in the midfield.
Kane’s stellar haul in DGW28 sees another 159k managers rush to bring him in. And, finally, after two consecutive hauls in a row, Spurs defender Doherty sees 105k bring him into their teams.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Bowen to Saka, Ronaldo to Kane, and Dias to Robertson.
Top Three FPL DGW29 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL DGW29 Transfer Combination 1:
Jarrod Bowen (£6.9) to Bukayo Saka (£6.5)
After news of a potential Achilles doubt, Bowen is once again a top transfers out from many FPL teams, with 24.9% of managers making the swap to Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka.
Despite only having a single fixture in DGW28, Saka is up there with some of the high scorers of the gameweek, registering a total of 12 points after scoring a goal and an assist against Watford. He and Arsenal have another Double Gameweek in DGW29, against Leicester and Liverpool at home. Among attacking assets in the Arsenal selection, Saka is arguably the standout pick.
He has been compared with Spurs’ new signing Kulusevski, who is in the same price bracket and has also been showing some promise. We run a comparison below:
At a glance, we can see that the comparison of per 90mins data shows that Saka registers more shots, shots on target, shots in the box, xG, key passes and touches in the box (9.61 vs 5.73). Kulusevski pips Saka in terms of xGI, big chances created, and xA, possibly implying that Kulusevski has a more creative role compared to Saka’s higher goal threat.
With Saka also being on set-pieces and being more nailed, that should boost Saka’s appeal over Kulusevski. Arsenal are also fighting to secure Champions League qualification, so every game here on out will be very crucial.
Who do Arsenal face in DGW29?
Arsenal play Leicester and Liverpool at home in DGW29. Truthfully, these fixtures aren’t the more favourable, in particular the Liverpool fixture.
However, no other team has conceded more chances down their left flank away from home than Leicester this entire season. They have only kept one clean sheet in all of their away games this season.
With the highest xG (0.5) among all Arsenal midfielders, there’s a good chance Saka will be involved in an attacking return. Arsenal also play in BGW30, so Arsenal assets and Saka are good long-term holds, possibly until the end of the season.

FPL DGW29 Transfer Combination 2:
Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.3) to Harry Kane (£12.3)
Ronaldo’s potential hip injury has compounded on his recent streak of blanks, prompting a whopping 81.2% of managers to sell him for Harry Kane ahead of United’s tougher fixture run.
Kane, despite only playing one fixture in DGW28, scored a hefty haul of 13 points in Spurs’ 5-0 win over Everton, after scoring 2 goals and claiming all 3 bonus points. He is clearly a man in form in a Spurs side slowly finding their groove under Conte.
Among all forwards this season, Kane is the best for shots (83), shots on target (37), big chances (21), and headed attempts (21), xGI (0.8), and big chances created (11). He is 2nd best among all forwards for shots in the box (53), only after Ronaldo.
With a real lack of decent forward options at the moment, Kane is the best pick and could be in contention as a captaincy option.
Who do Spurs face in DGW29?
Spurs play Man United and Brighton away in DGW29. Probably not the best looking fixtures, but certainly fixtures that Kane can very well return in.
While United’s overall performance remains questionable, they have drastically improved defensively, only. They will be a tougher opponent for Spurs. Brighton, however, have a higher xGC of 1.52. They’ve also conceded 10 goals in the last 6 gameweeks, keeping only one clean sheet during that time.
For those looking for a forward that plays in BGW30 and is a good hold until the end of the season, Kane is your pick to go for.

FPL DGW29 Transfer Combination 3:
Ruben Dias (£6.2) to Andy Robertson (£7.2)
Dias‘ hamstring injury has seen 9.8% of managers look towards Liverpool defender Robertson for their defensive selections.
While the majority will have Alexander-Arnold as their Liverpool defensive coverage, opting for the double up in defense with Robertson could prove to be a strategic play, given his lower ownership and differential status.
Among all defenders excluding Alexander-Arnold, he has registered the most assists this season (10) and the most big chances created. He is best for touches in the box and has the second best xAssists (4.99) this season.
His duty on set-pieces boosts his overall creativity as an FPL asset. A bold play for managers looking for a differential option to chase in overall rank.
Who do Liverpool face in DGW29?
Liverpool play Brighton and Arsenal away in DGW29. Likewise with the other double gameweek fixtures, probably not the most striking fixtures, but fixtures that Liverpool could still gain some returns from.
According to Drafthound, Liverpool have a 44% chance of a clean sheet against Brighton, and a 33% chance of a clean sheet against Arsenal. Brighton have only kept 1 clean sheet in the last 6 gameweeks, conceding 10 goals in the process.
Liverpool are definitely a team to target in this DGW29. One thing to note is that Liverpool will blank in BGW30, so you may have to plan to have sufficient coverage for that blank. Otherwise, Robertson and other Liverpool assets are good holds for the rest of the season.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 29 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
