Welcome to FPL GW13 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.
GW12 saw a couple of hefty double-digit hauls. A couple of differential picks ended up paying off and rewarding faithful managers. All eyes were on the many teams coming into the holiday season under new management.
Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW13 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has an 11/12 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW12. Stay tuned for the GW10 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 13 blogs.

Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL GW13
Antonio’s 3rd consecutive blank sees 138k managers give him the boot, followed closely by fellow West Ham midfielder Benrahma, with 113k managers transferring him out.
Ronaldo yet again appears on the top transfers out list, with 110k managers unhappy with United’s lackluster form of late. City defender Dias‘ surprise rotation was enough for 102k managers to switch to a more nailed defender. And Leicester striker Vardy blanks for the 4th time in a row, prompting 101k managers to ship him out.
On the flip side, another 243k managers bring in Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold after his stellar returns against Arsenal. More managers continue to bring in Gallagher to get in on his decent form (223k). Chelsea defender James is another asset who has continued to produce consistent hauls, with 220k managers bringing him into their teams.
Arsenal’s Smith Rowe sees 156k managers transfer him in despite the loss against Liverpool in GW12, and City’s Joao Cancelo (152k) makes it to 5th place of the top transfers in list after a 12 point haul against Everton.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Antonio to Jimenez, Benrahma to Smith Rowe, and Dias to Alexander-Arnold.
Top Three FPL GW13 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL GW13 Transfer Combination 1:
Michail Antonio (£8.2) to Raul Jimenez (£7.8)
West Ham striker Antonio’s third consecutive blank has prompted 29.5% of managers to make the swap to Mexican forward Raul Jimenez prior to the GW13 deadline.
The Wolves striker has returned in 5 of the last 7 games, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists. Consistent FPL managers who have played season after season will know what an asset Jimenez was in the previous seasons, before his major injury in the 20/21 season. He is showing glimpses of form under new manager Bruno Lage.
Among strikers below 8m, he is 1st for most touches in the box (63), 4th for total shots taken (25), 3rd for shots in the box (21), and 3rd for big chances (7).
Wolves currently play a 3-4-2-1, with Jimenez playing as the lone striker up top, supported by the attackers of Hwang and Podence. We could continue to see Jimenez thrive in this lone striker position.
Who do Wolves face in GW13?
Wolves play Norwich away in GW13. Norwich are still shaky at the back, with the 2nd most shots conceded (194), the 2nd most shots in the box conceded (126), most shots on target conceded (71), the 2nd most big chances conceded (30), and the most goals conceded (27).
If there’s a game to take a punt on Jimenez, it would be these next two fixtures against Norwich and Burnley, arguably the league’s two worst defenses at the moment.
FPL GW13 Transfer Combination 2:
Saïd Benrahma (£6.3) to Emile Smith Rowe (£5.9)
17.7% of managers have made the swap from Benrahma to Smith Rowe. Benrahma has maintained a consistent streak of blanks, which makes it no surprise that managers are opting to replace him.
Smith Rowe, on the other hand, has returned in 3 of the last 4 fixtures, scoring 3 goals and 2 assists. The 4-0 loss to Liverpool was a big setback for Arsenal, which could fuel the desire to regain their form in the next few fixtures.
Statistically among midfielders below 6m, he is joint 3rd for shots on target (10), 3rd for goal involvement % (46%), and 2nd for goal involvements (6). Out of the 16 shots he’s taken, 13 of them were in the box.
Being on set-pieces as well, there are substantial avenues for him to return.
Who do Arsenal face in GW13?
Arsenal play Newcastle at home in GW13. Newcastle continue to be one of the worst defenses in the league, being worst for big chances conceded (33), joint 2nd worst for shots on target conceded (62), 3rd worst for non-penalty xGC (19.8), and the worst for most goals conceded (27). Should fare well for Smith Rowe and Arsenal.
FPL GW13 Transfer Combination 3:
Ruben Dias (£6.0) to Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.8)
City defender Ruben Dias’ benching against Everton was another harsh reminder that Pep Roulette is very much still in effect and very capable of striking anyone in the City squad. Considering most managers already have Cancelo as their City defense cover, 13.7% of managers are bringing in Liverpool premium defender Alexander-Arnold, after he was a frequent sell around the time of GW5 when he had an injury.
And it’s no surprise, given that TAA has returned in 4 of the last 5 games after coming back from injury. The points came from 1 goal, 4 assists, and 3 clean sheets. He also registered 3 double-digit hauls from GWs 8-12!
He is first among all defenders for big chances created (8), 2nd for total shots taken (20), joint 2nd for shots on target (6), and 1st for entries into the box (114). Being on set pieces, he has an extremely high creative potential and an xAssists of 4.57!
Liverpool’s current form and good long-term fixture run should make TAA a set-and-forget asset in your teams.
Who do Liverpool face in GW13?
Liverpool play Southampton at home in GW13. While the Saints are not the worst defense in the league, they concede more of their shots (36%) from their left flank (right for opposition). They have a lower xG of 1.2 and non-penalty xG of 1.1 (both 3rd among all teams).
Given his steadily-rising ownership too, he would be a crucial asset to own (alongside Salah) as Liverpool continue their form and enter a good long-term stretch of fixtures.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 13 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
