With the first and according to me the most uncertain Matchday out of the way, let’s look at who was hot and who was not in my UCLFantasy MD1 Hits & Misses blog

Hits
Robert Lewandowski: With surprisingly low ownership for a man of his caliber, Lewa’s owners (and cappers) had a field day on the points he earned with 2 goals + MOTM. With Haaland out injured, and the PSG premiums all looking out of sorts, Lewandowski is making a major case as the essential striker up top.

Chelsea’s Defence: In what was a tougher game than was expected vs Zenit, the Chelsea defense had more to do on their plate to keep a clean sheet and earn returns, but they pulled through nonetheless. Big Dave even got an assist to his name to show for what was a decent cross into the box for Lukaku’s goal. With Juventus looking toothless without Dybala and Morata, can the Blues defense thrive once more?
Surprise Packages – Nkunku and Haller: Both players with lower ownership of 5% combined, Nkunku and Haller provided 20 and 21 point returns respectively. While they may not win each game in their group, Leipzig plays a very fluid style of football, and Ajax has been scoring for fun in their league games as well. We can expect some more returns from both these players in the upcoming fixtures
Game Feature – Player of the Match: UCLFantasy hit it spot on when they added Ball Recoveries to their points scoring mechanism a couple of seasons back, and they’ve done it again by adding the POTM points. While I would’ve liked to see bonus points in the game, an additional 3 points for having the POTM is definitely a welcome addition to the game and a hit for me from the creators!
Notable mentions: Bellingham brilliance, Herrera punters, Morata Backers

PSG’s Frontline
With everyone expecting the front three of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe to blow Brugge to pieces, it’s surely surprising to see the first two blank and Mbappe to just return with an assist before going off injured. Another factor to consider when getting these premiums is that Poch isn’t afraid to sub any of them out, as we’ve already seen with Messi and Mbappe.

Mo Salah: When you pay a premium price for Liverpool’s penalty-taking asset, you expect him to score that penalty. While he scored another and did recover from the negative points he received, Salah could easily have gotten POTM if things went the other way. I’ll be keeping him in my team because I still believe he is the best midfield asset, but he was surely a missed in MD1 even after a 5 point return.
Manchester United Assets
While as a rule of thumb, I tend to keep away from United players in the UCL, a lot of users on the game didn’t do so. For the price of 12m, a 6 point return vs Young Boys isn’t satisfactory for CR7 according to me. Similarly, their defense conceding two goals was shocking, even if they were down to 10 men because you’d expect United to defend well enough to keep a team like YB out.
