FPL GW7 Analysis: Players to Buy, Hold or Sell?
(Player prices, ownership percentages, and transfer INs/OUTs change live. The quoted numbers may differ with the actuals when you read the article)
Marcus Alonso – Buy
Already quite popular among the FPL managers, Alonso has amassed 39 points so far in 6 matches. It’s a ridiculous points average per match (6.5) to say the least.
He has already gained ~270k new owners this week itself, taking his ownership to 22%. He has been putting brilliant stats almost every, quite reminiscent of the yester years.
Here are his underlying stats
Metric | Key Passes | Shots | Penalty Ar. Touches | Successful Crosses |
Alonso’s Numbers | 12 | 11 | 15 | 9 |
Defenders with more | 3 | 0 | 2 | 5 |
In addition to keeping 4 CSs, he has also scored and assisted one goal so far. Chelsea’s defense is one of the best in the league and his ceiling of points is up there with any other player in game, not just defenders.
With the form he has started the season, its his place to lose now. This, coupled with a kind run of fixtures starting this week could mean a lot of points in the upcoming gameweeks! In case you are looking for a relatively safer route to Chelsea’s defense, Antonio Rüdiger (5.7m) is a great alternative.

Jamie Vardy – Buy
The idea of “threemium” has been seducing the FPL community since the addition Ronaldo (12.7m) in the game. While the premium trio of Salah-Lukaku-Ronaldo is certainly achievable, it would, in most cases leave your teams unbalanced.
However, is Salah-Lukaku-Ronaldo the only threemium option? Not in my opinion.
Vardy has once again shown that he could be in talks for the golden boot, come the end of this season. He is already the joint top goal scorer in the league with 5 goals and unlike previous seasons, he has the data to back his output.
Metric | Shots on Target | Shots in the box | Big Chances | Team Importance |
Vardy’s Numbers | 9 | 16 | 5 | 61% |
Rank within Forwards | 2nd | 2nd | =2nd | 1st |
In his next five fixtures, he faces – Palace, United, Brentford, Arsenal and Leeds, who except Brentford, have had defensive issues so far. I think it’s time to invite Vardy to the “threemium“ club!

Jack Grealish – Hold
If you own Jack Grealish, you might not be best pleased with the outcomes, especially in the last 3 GWs. In the span where budget mid-fielders have banged, Grealish managed only 9 points.
Not just Grealish, but City as a team haven’t clicked after that Arsenal game. Though, despite not scoring, his underlying numbers have been consistent, except for Shots on Target
Metric | Key Passes | Shots in the box | Shots on Target |
Grealish’s Numbers | 18 | 9 | 4 |
Mids with more | 1 | 8 | 16 |
If he can rectify the accuracy of his shots, the upcoming fixtures could be very fruitful for him. Did I mention he has started all the games so far! (Hopefully, I did not jinx it)

Raphinha – Hold
Despite back-to-back goals, Raphinha has been sold by over 24k managers ahead of GW7. Given there hasn’t been any decline in his output or underlying numbers, it is fair to assume that the sellers are worried about his fitness status.
Based on the latest press conference, Bielsa has declared Raphinha fit to play against Watford (H) (in GW7). He is in great form and it would not be a good idea to sell him before a decent home game.
Raphinha is available, Bamford isn’t. And another player who was injured but who is [now] available is Llorente

Diogo Jota – Sell
In my opinion, its time to bid farewell to our beloved budget Liverpool striker. In case you missed it, Firmino made a substitute appearance mid-week, in the UCL match against Porto and scored a brace!
I would be surprised to say the least if Jota starts ahead of Firmino against Manchester City and maybe beyond that too.
Its unfortunate for many of us to have injury flags in our teams. I would be cautious to use the FT to sell a player at the moment. However, if you can afford a FT to swap mid-fielders, selling Jota could be good place to start with!
Interesting fact – Diogo Jota (7.7) to Ismaila Sarr (6.3) is one of the most popular transfer combinations! If you are interested to check out other popular combinations, take a look here.
