Welcome to FPL GW3 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.
GW2 saw a plethora of goals and returns across all 10 fixtures. There were plenty of double-digit hauls from players from various teams, so there’s no surprise that a couple of those players are hot on the market at the moment.
This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from West Ham United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Brighton. The top 5 transfers OUT come from Brentford, Arsenal, United, Everton, Manchester City.
Before going further do vote for us in the Football Content Awards Finals under the Best in Fantasy Football Editorials category. Also, vote for Net That Haul for Best in Fantasy Football Video. You can leave the other options to be blank as well. It will take just two mins and would mean so much for all of us involved. Here is also a link to all our FPL Gameweek 3 blogs
FPL Transfers Gameweek 3 Deadline – Saturday 28th August 2021 at 12:00 BST
We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.
RECAP GW2 TRANSFER TRENDS
Kane (0 points) to Lukaku (8 points) ✅
Cavani (0 points) to Calvert-Lewin (7 points) ✅
Iheanacho (2 points) to Antonio (16 points) ✅
All three transfer combinations worked out well!
Top Transfers In and Out Ahead of FPL GW3
Consistent blanks from Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Digne, and Stones have resulted in them making the top transfers out prior to GW2, with 243k, 131k, and 130k transfers out respectively.
Arsenal’s Ben White is quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19, and Arsenal’s recent poor run of form has made him an easy transfer out, with 216k managers giving him the boot.
And, despite his 2 bonus points, Shaw makes it at third place with 134k transfers out prior to the deadline.
West Ham duo Benrahma and Antonio once again saw stunning success in their 4-1 win over Leicester, with roughly 392k managers each eager to get in on the action.
Lukaku rewarded the over 206k managers who brought him in last week with a goal against Arsenal, so it’s no surprise he’s back on the top transfers with 316k bringing him in this week. So were the over 205k managers who brought in Tsimikas, who got to enjoy his 11 point haul against Burnley. Another 249k want him in too.
Last but not least, a bit of a surprising scene here, but Brighton defender Duffy makes the 5th spot for most transfers in, after his goal resulting in a 14 point haul against Watford. 241k are keen on him.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Buendia to Benrahma, Toney to Antonio and Ings to Lukaku.
Top Three FPL GW3 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL GW3 Transfer Combination 1: Emi Buendia (£6.5) to Saïd Benrahma (£6.2)
11% of managers have already made the switch from Buendia to Benrahma already prior to the deadline. Which is no surprise, given Buendia’s two straight blanks compared to Benrahma’s two consecutive 12 point hauls.
Benrahma has scored 2 goals, which is 2nd joint highest for all midfielders. He has scored 24 points, the most of any midfielder on FPL currently, and he is also joint 2nd for big chances with 2.
Managers who followed West Ham during the preseason will know that he passes the eye-test, and he links up very well with Antonio in the attack.
There are doubts about his security of starts as West Ham work out the Lingard deal; however, until we get more information on that, he’s a great pick at £6.2.
Who do West Ham face in GW3?
West Ham play Crystal Palace at home. Under new management, there may be some growing pains as Vieira helps his team to find their groove. Losing 3-0 to Chelsea away, they looked very shaky. West Ham are also coming off of two massive goalfests, scoring 4 goals in each of their first two fixtures.
Palace have also conceded 67% of their shots on the right, which is the attacking left for West Ham. This should be fun terrain for Benrahma to roam.

FPL GW3 Transfer Combination 2: Ivan Toney (£6.5) to Michail Antonio (£7.7)
Antonio has returned once again on this week’s blog, and for good reason, as he returned with another hefty 16 point haul, with 2 goals and an assist in West Ham’s 4-1 thrashing on Leicester.
A familiar sight to see for many FPL managers, Antonio, frequently known as a xG monster, is currently the top for xG among all forwards, at 2.76. He is also the highest scoring forward with 3 goals in two games, joint first for big chances created among forwards (2), and he has taken the most shots of all forwards, with 11 shots.
Considering the hype, Toney’s two consecutive blanks are making 243k managers frustrated, as he is currently the most transferred-out player prior to the deadline.
Before going further to the third transfer trend, Do vote in this week’s FPL Gameweek 3 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has been delivering consistently with a success of more than 80% since debuting in GW29 last year and is absolutely free. Stay tuned for the same. Last week the metric predicted Mahrez ahead of Salah and Bruno and he scored a goal!

FPL GW3 Transfer Combination 3: Danny Ings (£8.1) to Lukaku (£11.5)
23.4% of managers are already making the move of Ings to Lukaku prior to the deadline. Despite scoring two goals in his last two games, Ings struggled to register a shot against Watford in GW1, and currently only has 1 big chance and 3 total shots so far.
Compare that to Lukaku, who had a later start, and he is already at 8 shots total (joint 3rd for all forwards), 7 of which were in the box. Last week, we pointed out that in Lukaku’s 2017/18 season with United, 87% of his shots were in the box. We’re clearly seeing a replicate of that now.
Although he is at a premium price, and Chelsea’s fixtures aren’t the most appealing until GW7, he is a very competent striker capable of terrorising defences. Will make it easier on you as an earlier owner if Lukaku continues scoring.
Who do Chelsea face in GW3?
Chelsea have a tough matchup against Liverpool away in GW3. This will be an interesting matchup – two strong sides coming off of 2 cleansheets and 2 wins. It’ll be great to watch Virgil Van Dijk battle it out against Lukaku.
Despite the tough matchup, it would be worth holding onto Lukaku as Chelsea face Aston Villa in GW4 at home. Should fare well for Lukaku.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 3 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
