As the start of the 21/22 season approaches, we continue the analysis of players to consider in different positions and price ranges. In this edition, we will be taking a look at FPL premium forwards options, those with price tags exceeding £9m. While they do take up a large portion of the given budget, the premium options boast hefty price tags for a reason: they deliver.
With only 5 forwards this season in the premium category, let’s take a look at a deeper analysis of each asset and see which ones could potentially make the starting lineups in your FPL squads.

Premium FPL Forwards in Price Order:
- Harry Kane TOT/MCI £12.5
- Jamie Vardy LEI £10.5
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang £10.0
- Roberto Firmino LIV £9.0
- Timo Werner CHE £9.0
Harry Kane TOT/MCI £12.5
Price: £12.5 Appearances: 35 ⚽️ 23 goals 🅰️ 14 assists Per game: 👟 4.00 shots 🔑 1.43 Key Passes 🎨 0.44 big chances created ✅ on penalties Opening fixtures (at Spurs): MCI (H), WOL (A), WAT (H), CRY (A), CHE (H), ARS (A), AVL (H) Opening fixtures (if at City): TOT (A), NOR (H), ARS (H), LEI (A), SOU (H), CHE (A), LIV (A)
Arguably the best forward option amongst the premiums. As we’ve seen last season and during Euro 2020, Kane is a lethal striker who is very capable of scoring big, both in goals and assists.
Statistically, he ranks 1st among all premium forwards for bonus points per 90 mins (25.67), 1st for headed attempts per 90 (0.79), 1st for total shots per 90 (4.00), and 1st for non-penalty xG per 90 (0.49).
One main concern is the recent news of a possible transfer to Manchester City. While nothing is 100% confirmed, this is something to keep in mind if Kane makes a spot on your drafts. If he transfers to City, we know that Pep’s atrocious rotation could affect Kane’s minutes, and he might need a few games to settle in with the new squad. The upside is that, if he is nailed at City, the supporting players around him could boost his potential to haul big consistently.
I think the move to City is quite imminent, but, if it doesn’t happen, Kane should still be a good option should he remain at Tottenham. He’ll be nailed and on penalties.
While there is a lot of uncertainty with this move, he should nevertheless still remain a standout premium forward option. I expect him to continue doing well after his brilliant 20/21 season and Euros performance.

Jamie Vardy LEI £10.5
Price: £10.5 Appearances: 34 ⚽️ 15 goals 🅰️ 14 assists Per game: 👟 2.59 shots 🔑 0.89 Key Passes 🎨 0.23 big chances created ✅ on penalties Opening fixtures: WOL (H), WHU (A), NOR (A), MCI (H), BHA (A), BUR (H), CRY (A)
Jamie Vardy tied with Harry Kane for the highest number of assists last season, with 14 assists. Vardy suffered a couple of injury spells last season, forcing him on the sidelines and limiting his output.
However, in the time that he was able to play, he averaged 1.11 big chances per 90 mins (1st for all premium forwards), 1.20 shots on target per 90, and 2.41 shots in the box per 90. He has a 45% goal involvement, showing that, whenever Leicester scores, he is bound to be in on the action.
Vardy will also have Kelechi Iheanacho playing alongside him, who, too, is very involved in the attack. I think Vardy’s spot should be nailed despite the introduction of Patson Daka. We need to see how Brendan Rodgers utilizes his three forwards.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ARS £10.0
Price: £10.0 Appearances: 29 ⚽️ 10 goals 🅰️ 3 assists Per game: 👟 2.20 shots 🔑 0.85 Key Passes 🎨 0.12 big chances created ✅ on penalties Opening fixtures: BRE (A), CHE (H), MCI (A), NOR (H), BUR (A), TOT (H), BHA (A)
After Arsenal’s lackluster results in the 20/21 season, I expect them to be eager to play hard. Without any international cups or tournaments to worry about, rotation should be minimal on Arteta’s side, with Aubameyang to captain the side week-in week-out.
An important point to note is Aubameyang was formerly classified as a midfielder; this season, he has been reclassified as a forward. He would be the premium option into the Arsenal attack.
Statistically, he ranks 2nd best after Kane for most crosses into the box per 90 mins (2.31). He averages 4.81 touches in the box per 90, and 2.20 shots per 90.
Arteta usually deployed a 4-2-3-1, and, towards the end of the season, we saw Aubameyang take the lone-striker role at the top. This would have been huge as, being classified as a midfielder, he would have scored more points per goal. With the signing of Ben White, we will have to see whether Arteta sticks to this formation, or possibly convert to a 3-man defense, shifting up the shape of the attack.
Regardless, we should still see Aubameyang as the primary striker choice for Arsenal.

Roberto Firmino LIV £9.0
Price: £9.0 Appearances: 36 ⚽️ 9 goals 🅰️ 8 assists Per game: 👟 2.62 shots 🔑 1.39 Key Passes 🎨 0.35 big chances created ❌ not on penalties Opening fixtures: NOR (A), BUR (H), CHE (H), LEE (A), CRY (H), BRE (A), MCI (H)
Towards the end of the season, the spotlight on the Brazilian as a standout pick in the Liverpool attack gradually faded. Partly due to his knee injury which saw him sidelined for about a month, partly due to Liverpool’s dramatic dip in form midway through the season.
However, I’m confident we can see Firmino back in action as the central striker of a front 3 Liverpool attack. Firmino’s common role as a False 9 striker sees him frequently patrolling the central areas of the opposition’s half, while also providing threat in the box.
Firmino is 2nd after Kane for key passes per 90 mins (1.39). He leads in most total touches per 90 mins amidst all premium strikers (56.96) and is 2nd best for goal attempts out of the box per 90 (0.60).
While he is not on penalty duty, he still gets involved in the attack significantly. The opening fixtures for Liverpool tilt in his favor too.

Timo Werner CHE £9.0
Price: £9.0 Appearances: 35 ⚽️ 6 goals 🅰️ 12 assists Per game: 👟 2.73 shots 🔑 1.25 Key Passes 🎨 0.38 big chances created ✅ on penalties (shared duty with Jorginho) Opening fixtures: CRY (H), ARS (A), LIV (A), AVL (H), TOT (A), MCI (H), SOU (H)
Chelsea’s German striker received mixed reviews in his first season in the Premier League. He clocked decent xG ratings in certain fixtures, only to blank or miss big chances. I felt like he finally began finding his feet beneath him towards the end of the season, but he was a pain to own in the first few Gameweeks last season.
Despite the mixed reviews, Werner got the 2nd most assists last season of all forwards (12), averaged 0.83 big chances per 90 mins, and is 2nd best for non-penalty xG per 90 mins (0.46). He is also 2nd of all premium strikers for most total touches in the box per 90 mins (189).
The stats are there: he is a lethal striker. His pace causes a lot of issues for opposition defenders. It’s a matter of whether he can tuck away those chances.
He has a strong, confident Chelsea side coming off of a huge Champion’s League title to support him, and he is on penalty duty when Jorginho is not on the pitch.
The fixtures don’t look too appealing from the start of the season; however, when the fixture swings in Chelsea’s favor after GW6, he could potentially be a decent punt on a wildcard team.
Out of all 5 of the FPL premium forwards we’ve discussed today, here’s how I would rank them from top choice to least.
- Harry Kane
- Roberto Firmino
- Jamie Vardy
- Timo Werner
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The likelihood is that our teams will only be able to own a maximum of one of these 5 premium assets, given their hefty price tags. I hope this analysis has given more thought to which premium striker may potentially be a decent choice for your squads.
