Buy, Hold, Sell Player Analysis Ahead of FPL GW35

FPL GW35- Dominic Calvert Lewin

With an upcoming double gameweek, I look at the players to buy, hold and sell in FPL Double GW35.

Players to buy ahead of FPL GW35:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.5) – Everton

Ownership: 27.6%

FPL GW35- Calvert Lewin
Time to get back Dominic Calvert Lewindoski!

The Everton striker found the net again in GW34, against Aston Villa, and with a double gameweek against West Ham and Aston Villa (again) in FPL GW35, it’s a great time to buy DCL.

Over the last 6 games Calvert-Lewin has averaged an xGI (expected goal involvement) of 0.60 per game. 0.56 of that is xG and if he has managed to find some confidence again, the fixtures are too good to ignore.

West Ham have conceded 12 goals in 6 games, Villa 10, and after the DGW Everton have a fixture in the following blank gameweek 36, and that’s a great fixture too. They face Sheffield United at home, the exact same fixture as Spurs had in GW34 and won 4-0 in and in GW37 they have another good fixture in Wolves (H). If you are interested in buying DCL, this is the time.

Luke Shaw (£5.4) – Manchester United

Ownership: 17.1%

FPL GW35- Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw should be a good pick for end season run-in

Luke Shaw delivered an 8-pointer against Leeds in GW33, the last game he played due to the postponement of Manchester United-Liverpool in GW34, and it seems like Man United might have found some defensive stability.

He has a DGW in FPL GW35, facing Aston Villa and Leicester. That might not sound like great fixtures but actually Manchester United have been more solid defensively against the big teams this season, conceding 0 goals in 2 games against Manchester City for example, which makes the DGW fixtures good looking for Luke Shaw.

He also possesses a significant attacking threat. Over the last 6 games Luke Shaw has averaged 2.67 chances created. That kind of numbers are good for a player at any position on the pitch, but for a left-back they are extremely good. The combination of attacking threat and ability to keep clean sheets makes Luke Shaw a player to buy in GW35.

Players to hold ahead of FPL GW35:

Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.9) – Chelsea

Ownership: 7.9%

FPL GW35- Azpi
Azpi was rested for Fulham game but should be back!

Azpilicueta started 12 league games in a row for Chelsea between GW20 and GW31 but has now seen two rests in three games. Despite that, I would not mind keeping him if I owned him.

He is a key part of Tuchel’s defence and with tough fixtures coming up I don’t see him being rested as often. And the tough fixtures is not reason enough to let go of Azpi, we have seen that Chelsea can be defensively solid even against the best teams in Europe. So even if his DGW includes Man City and Arsenal, that is not a reason to sell him.

However, this is probably not the right time to buy him either. The fixtures are not THAT good, and the heavy price tag is not ideal as you will need to spend your money elsewhere in your team. So to sum it up, if you own Azpi, keep him, but if you don’t, this is not the time to buy.

Jesse Lingard (£6.7) – West Ham

Ownership: 32.1%

FPL GW35- Jesse Lingard
The man in form- Jesse Lingard

The second player to hold is one of the most talked about players this season, Jesse Lingard. Overperforming or not, he has delivered an insane amount of points for his price, but has now seen two blanks in a row.

Does that mean that it is time to sell Lingard? Definitely not. He has a good fixture run that lasts for the rest of the season, even if Everton and Brighton in GW35 and GW36 are the hard games of the run. It’s also worth mentioning that Michail Antonio was back from injury against Wolves, scoring twice, and the presence of the striker might help Lingard in his attacking play.

So Lingard is undoubtedly an asset to keep, but if you don’t already own the midfielder, this might not be the best time to buy. Firstly, Lingard doesn’t have a DGW which means that there are other midfielders with a lot higher potential for GW35, as they play twice. West Ham’s great run of fixtures does start after the Everton game though, so long term I would still think about bringing Lingard in, just not this week.

Players to sell ahead of FPL GW35:

Leandro Trossard (£5.7) – Brighton

Ownership: 2.6%

FPL GW35- Trossard
Tough fixtures await Brighton

Quite a lot of people brought in Leandro Trossard as a differential punt in GW33, ahead of 2 games against Sheffield United and Leeds, but 2 blanks later it’s preferably time to sell.

Even though the fixture against Wolves in GW 35 is good, there are a lot of more appealing midfield options with DGWs, for instance Crystal Palace players such as Zaha or Eze if you fancy a differential. After the Wolves game Brighton’s fixtures take a turn and they end the season with games against West Ham, Manchester City and Arsenal, games where you don’t ideally want to own Trossard.

Over the last 6 games Trossard has only averaged an xGI of 0.28, despite facing “easier” teams and with so many other midfield options, that’s not good enough. You can use that midfielder spot to much more good considering the upcoming DGW, that Leandro Trossard is a player to sell.

Wesley Fofana (£5.0) – Leicester

Ownership: 1.2%

FPL GW35- Fofona
Leicester’s defensive form doesn’t look promising

This might come as a surprise for a few people, given Leicester’s DGW in GW35. But, that is followed by a BGW in GW36, so you do not really gain an extra fixture by owning Leicester players.

Leicester’s defence has been quite shaky recently, conceding an xG of 2.07 per game in the last 6 games. With games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham to come, owning a Leicester defender is not ideal.

It is also concerning that Wesley Fofana has been taken off early in 2 of his last 3 games. It is obviously not strange in any way as he is fasting, it’s actually incredible that he even has the strength to play games, but from an FPL perspective it’s quite concerning. This might not be an emergency situation to sell Wesley Fofana, but it’s not a bad transfer at all.

Please note that the article was written before any possible fixture rearrangements as a result of the postponed fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool, so if decisions have been made regarding that, I want you to know that the article was written before they were official.
