FPL GW31 Wildcard- Best Combinations, Tips, And Team Reveal

We are the business end of the 2020/21 FPL Season with just eight game weeks left to go. A lot of managers have held on to their wildcard including me. GW31 sees a lot of teams having fixture swings, key players hitting form, injury returns and the the clarity of which teams will have more intent and the ones who’ll rotate a lot(Pep and Tuchel Mainly😝)over the last few weeks of the season making FPL GW31 Wildcard more appealing. In this blog i’ll walk you through myFPL GW31 Wildcard draft and also list alternate options for you to consider.

Here’s a very good FDR for the remainder of the season. As you can see there quite a lot of greens for teams including Arsenal, Liverpool, Wolves, West Ham, Chelsea and Tottenham all enjoying good fixture runs and are the team to target if you’re playing your Wildcard in GW31.

Here’s a further read on the teams and players to target in your GW31 wildcard team ~ Teams and Players to Consider for the Final stretch of FPL Season | FPL GW31 ~ GW38

FPL GW31 Goalkeepers

Investing more than 9.5 Million on goalkeepers isn’t something that will work during the closing stages of the season and with two playing goalkeepers there is always the confusion on whom to start and also to transfer out you’ll need to waste a free transfer which are precious considering we just have 8 FT’s left till the end of the season.

Since GW19 Mendy has kept eight clean sheets with only Ederson keeping more clean sheets(9) during the period having played three games more. Chelsea have been very solid at the back since Tuchel took over in GW20 as Chelsea’s manager, conceding just eight goals with five of them coming in a shock 5-2 defeat against West Brom. It’s however definitely a one off and Chelsea should regain defensive stability as they look to seal a champions league spot for next season.

Chelsea have conceded the least goals, shots on target, big chances, shots inside the box, xGC since Tuchel took over. This is inspite of the five goal drubbing against West Brom which shows how remarkably consistent over the period.

Forster is the other goal keeper who’ll be adding in my team. At 4.0 Million he does the job and also starts at times for Southampton. Sometimes you never know and having a 4.0 Million goalkeeper who has a change of playing is certainly a good option.

Leno and Martinez rotate well for the remainder of the season and could be a pair to consider. Similarly if you want to get over Pep roulette then Ederson is a good option but he’s quite expensive for my liking and i would invest the extra money elsewere. Patricio could also be a decent shout but Wolves have lost Jonny once again to an ACL injury which doesn’t bode well if you’re considering a Wolves defender as they’re now likely to switch to a back four.

FPL GW31 Defenders

Another Chelsea defender, Man city defender and Luke shaw are auto picks as they offer immense value and pretty much guarantee good returns over the next few weeks.

I have preferred Rudiger(4.7 Mil) over Azpulicutta(5.9 Mil) who remarkably is the only player to start all games under Tuchel due to the simple fact that both offer the same return potential and Rudiger is 1.2 Million less. With a playing bench the odd possibility of Rudiger can be easily managed. I however doubt if Tuchel will afford to bench Rudiger after what happened last time around after benching him.

Ruben Dias(6.1 Mil) is the next defender firmly in my FPL GW31 wildcard team as he is the one Man city defender who is nailed to start most of the games with all the other options coming with huge rotation risk. Dias(133) has also now score more points than Cancelo(122) and Stones(122) so far this season which shows that he guarantees us FPL managers points. He might not be a flashy option but certainly does the job which is all that matters. He has also been benched only once since he joined Man City.

Luke Shaw(5.3 Mil) is another player who picks himself in the Wildcard team. Shaw has shown remarkable consistency over the last few weeks and has been in the form of his life. Since GW18, shaw has registered 7 clean sheets, four assists and a goal totalling 81 points with stones(84) the only defender scoring more points during the period. Luke Shaw has also started every game since GW20 as he is now one of the first names in Ole’s Man United team sheet. He’s also guaranteed to start every week inspite of the fact that united are still in Europa League as he plays a key role both in attack and defense.

Here comes an interesting option in Trent Alexander Arnold(7.3 Mil), It’s safe to say TAA and Liverpool haven’t been enjoying a good season so far. TAA infact was owned by close to 54% managers ahead of GW1 but Liverpool’s failure to keep Clean sheets and TAA’s slump in attacking form meant a lot of managers moved away from him quickly. He was even dropped from the England squad. However he’s been showing very good signs of getting back to his best and Liverpool have very good fixtures as well which makes him hard to look beyond.

TAA’s number are on the rise

Since GW26, TAA has registered 15 key passes and has created four big chances with an xA of 2.10. Only KDB and Raphinha has more key passes and only Son has created more chances during the period. He has also scored 33 points since GW26 with Shaw(37). He’s also made the most successful crosses as well(11) the only other defender scoring more points during the period. With good fixtures coming up for Liverpool and his hunger to be in the England squad makes him an ideal pick to consider in your GW31 Wildcard team.

Rob Holding(4.2 Mil) is the fifth defender to make my Wildcard team simply because of the fact Arsenal have the best fixtures till the end of the season with Chelsea in GW36 the only tough fixture on paper for Arteta’s team. But Arsenal are out without Luiz and also Tierney which should be kept in mind as well. But at 4.2 Mil he’s an option hard to look beyond. Tierney is out for 4-6 weeks and Luiz is out for few “weeks” means Holding should hold his spot.

Alternate Defenders to consider in your GW31 Wildcard Team ~

Aaron Cresswell(5.9 Mil) is the highest scoring defender so far this season with 136 points. He’s also the only defender to make more than 10 assists and also tops the most bonus points for defenders. West Ham are also high flying and look to push for a champions league spot. The hammers also have favourable fixtures which make him hard to look by. If you look go Nat Philips(4.0 Mil) over TAA then Cresswell could be easily affordable.

Conor Coady(4.8 Mil) and Wolves have also got the fixtures but with Jonny out injured again i’m not keen on getting in a Wolves defender. Sergio Reguilón(5.5 Mil) also offers good value both in terms of defense and attacking returns. Spurs are out of Europa and have got a DGW in GW32 coming up.

FPL GW31 Midfielders

The first midfielder to make my Wildcard team or rather everyone’s team will be Bruno Fernandes(11.6 Mil), who is undoubtedly the highest scoring player so far this season having scored 214 points already this season with 16 goals and 13 assists. Owning him now is fairly a rank protector as he is already owned by 58% of FPL managers. Mo Salah(12.4 Mil), The Egyptian is the second highest scoring midfielder so far this season having scored 18 goals and made 4 assists totalling 182 points. Salah and Liverpool were out of form for sometime and this meant a lot of managers moved on from Salah.

However Liverpool are slowly getting back in form with the return of Diogo Jota(6.9 Mil). He’s currently owned by just 30% of FPL managers and is essentially a must own in your Wildcard team keeping in mind Salah will be eager to regain the top spot in the race for the golden boot.

Teammate Diogo Jota needed just 12 mins to score two goals against Arsenal and he too without any surprise makes it to the Wildcard team. The flamboyant winger was deeply missed by Liverpool and his return has once again made the Liverpool attack click once again. At 6.9 Mil he offers too good value which is very hard to ignore.

Jesse Lingard(6.3 Mil), simply can’t stop scoring at the moment, Since joining the hammers on loan lingard has scored six goals and made four assists scoring a whopping 68 points in the process making him the second highest scoring FPL player only being narrowly outscored by former teammate Bruno who had 69 points. Antonio being an injury risk over this period makes Jesse a no brainer option to consider in your GW31 wildcard team. Moyes and the hammers will count on his goals to push for a champions league spot.

Raphinha(5.5 Mil), simply has to be the best budget midfielder option this season with the Leeds attacker returning consistently week in week out. Even with tough fixtures coming up i’ll hold Raphinha simply due to the fact that Leeds will look to attack even against the big teams and Raphinha has a big part to play in Leeds attacking output. He’s also on set pieces and Free kicks which adds to his return potential. He’s been flirting with a big haul for sometime and i fully expect that to come soon!

Alternate Midfielders to consider in your GW31 Wildcard Team

Pedro Neto(5.7 Mil), and Wolves have a really good run of fixtures on paper and could be a good gamble. I’m not certainly convinced of Wolves attack to score a lot of goals after having badly missed Raul Jimenez for the major chunk of the season. Bukayo Saka(5.2 Mil) is back from injury for Arsenal and now has a favourable run of fixtures however with a lot of attackers it is well worth to consider that he’ll be rotated during the final few weeks with Arsenal still in Europa league and will look to prfioritize Europa League and win it to seal Champions League football for next season.

Gundogan(6.0 Mil), is certainly another great option to hold onto(Assuming most of the GW32 Wildcarders already own him) for the remainder of the season even though it comes with the fact that he’ll be rotated at times.

James Maddison(7.1 Mil), is back from injury which is a welcome boost for Leicester City. The foxes attacker registered 2 goals and three assists between GW21 and 26 before he was injured for a brief period until returning as a substitute against Man City in GW30.

FPL GW31 Forwards

Harry Kane(11.4 Mil), without any doubts is the first striker i’ll have in my Wildcard team. The striker has scored a whopping 19 goals and registered 13 assists crossing 200 points in the process for the season and he’s on course to finish the season with the most points he’s ever registered in a single FPL season. Spurs are out of Europa and will have to ensure a top four finish to guarantee Champions league football next season. Kane generally is know to finish the season well and with a lot resting on him this season will be no different. Spurs have a kind fixture run and also have a double in FPL GW32 making him a no brainer option.

Iheanacho(5.4 Mil), is the highest scoring FPL forward since GW26 having scored 39 points with five goals to his name. He’s also got good stats with 15 shots, seven on target, seven big chances, six key passes and two big chances created to his name since GW26. With such good numbers it is hard to look beyond him considering he’s nailed and also the fact Leicester have a good fixture run.

With funds short, Vydra(4.8 Mil) makes up my Wildcard team. The Burnley striker has started regularly since GW25 and is set to hold his place in the starting eleven. Going Vydra will leave me some funds to move around the midfielders and forward line as we have still got few doubles and blanks coming our way!

Alternate Forwards to consider in your GW31 Wildcard Team

Alexander Lacazette(8.2 Mil) could be a very good option, the arsenal attacker has registered three goals and an assist in the last five games and will look to continue his good run of form going into FPL GW31. Jamie Vardy(10.2 Mil), could also be a very good asset to own but the Leicester attacker is badly out of form having scored only one goal since GW17. Danny Ings(8.4 Mil), is back from injury and registered a goal and an assist against Burnley. He is up against WBA in GW31 which will be a high scoring one making him a very good option. He however faces Spurs in GW32 and blanks in GW33 which puts me off to get him in.
