FPL GW 30 Review & GW 31 Plans

Points: 60 points + GW rank: 1.2m

Apologies for not publishing a team reveal in GW 30. It was the first week our show #NetThatHaul was released as a podcast and I ended up recording 3 shows in 1 day! Since my last article, I have been knocked out of the FPL Cup in my 13th round (final 1,024 managers).

Happy with a green arrow bringing me closer to the Top 100k target I have. I was glad to have picked Kane as my captain because I did toy with the idea of captaining Son, Raphinha or Bruno. I was fortunate that Gundogan ended up playing 0 minutes as it meant that Watkins subbed in with a surprise 7 pointer (despite Grealish still not being back).

I benched Johnstone for his shock assist and Coufal for Konsa too. These didn’t sting much as I got my captaincy call right. I was optimistic that I could end the Gameweek inside the Top 100k but Lingard’s haul ended up dropping me nearly 20k places in the OR.

My overall rank improved from 117k to 110k.

Overall Rank going into FPL GW 31

I am now just 4 points outside the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season).

The all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 84 points behind! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (33 points behind right now).

FPL Blank Gameweeks (32, 33, 36) and Double Gameweeks (32, 35)

We are entering the business end of the season with 8 GWs to go. GW 31 sees a large fixture swing which means many FPL managers are activating their Wildcard too. Leeds and Aston Villa assets are being sold off by the masses in favour of players from Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester, Wolves and Arsenal.

Spurs have a Double Gameweek 32 vs Southampton and Everton. Crystal Palace is the only team to not have a fixture in Gameweek 32 making it a BGW for them. This is then followed by a Blank Gameweek 33 for Spurs, Man City, Fulham and Southampton.

Ben Crellin has shared a couple of potential schedules for the end of this season with a Double Gameweek 35 and Blank Gameweek 36. This is not set in stone and could end up not happening at all! Those who still have their WC plus a BB or FH could do really well to chase the high upside of using the chips when up to 8 teams could have a DGW35.

FPL GW 31 Bus Team
FPL Nima’s GW 31 Bus Team  🔥

Some thoughts about this plus my chip strategy for DGW32, BGW33 and the potential DGW35+BGW36

  • Last GW I ended up banking my FT instead of buying a Chelsea defender.
  • The plan had been to use my 2nd WC in GW31 but now that I have 2FT, I will be holding off using my WC until more information and clarity is available regarding the potential DGW35 and BGW36
  • I am considering a WC33, 34 or 35 depending on how far I can stumble along with my current team. I will use the WC sooner if I have to but would rather navigate using FTs for a few more weeks yet.
  • I would prefer to captain a Man City asset vs Leeds this week but I feel very uncertain about who will start. I also like the Liverpool attack vs Villa or the Arsenal attack vs Sheffield United as other captaincy options.
  • The fixtures for my bus team are horrendous this week with 3 players in the Man United vs Spurs game. Both my 3 Leeds players and 2 Villa players face Man City and Liverpool in the next 2 GWs.

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy. I think using the Bench Boost following a Wildcard is a great option if you still have both left.

Captain for FPL GW 31

My bus team has Kane as the current captain but I am unlikely to stick with this despite thinking he is a great option regardless of opponent.

I was originally excited about the idea of buying Aguero and captaining him vs Leeds. It feels very much like a nostalgia pick and not based on any current form. I managed to get excited about Mahrez but then he also played 90 minutes in the Champion’s League.

My shortlist of City players who I could buy this week and captain are as follows: Sterling, Mahrez, Aguero or Jesus. Gundogan could benefit from playing a more advanced role vs Leeds if KDB is benched. It is hard to know whether either KDB or Gundogan will start though.

Outside of Man City, Salah or Jota both seem like great captaincy options too and many on wildcard will be tripling up on Liverpool assets for their favourable run of fixtures till the end of the season.

Finally, I am not impressed with my differential signing Aubameyang and so will be looking to potentially sell him this GW. Depending on Arsenal’s line up in the Europa League I could bring in Lacazette to captain him vs Sheffield United.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Salah, Sterling, Aguero and Lacazette. In case you wanted to have a look at all four of the players, I like the most for captaincy this week.

Updated Watchlist for FPL GW 31:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Mendy, Leno

Out-list:

Defenders: Holding, Philips, Alexander-Arnold, Azpilecuta, Maguire, Rudiger

Out-list: Dallas

Midfielders: Salah, Jota, Lingard, Neto, Odegaard, Saka

Out-list: Aubameyang

Forwards: Lacazette, Iheanacho, Vardy, Aguero, Jesus

Out-list: Bamford, Watkins

Players I’ve added/removed from my Watchlist ahead of FPL GW 31:

Auba– added to my out-list as I don’t think he is value for money (signed him for Salah in BGW29 and that has not worked out)

Salah– added to my watch-list as I look at bringing him back when I sell Auba.

Lingard, Neto and Jota– added to my watchlist for GW31 onwards

Bamford and Watkins – added to my out-list

Lacazette, Iheanacho, Vardy, Aguero, Jesus– all added as replacement options for Bamford and Watkins

Mendy – added to watchlist for a Chelsea defensive double up

Holding, Philips, Alexander-Arnold – added to my watchlist

Dallas – added to my out-list

Removed

Bale – removed from my watchlist and won’t be going near him

Cancelo– removed from my out-list as I turned him into Dunk for BGW29 and will use Dunk again in BGW33 against SHU.

Dunk – removed from watchlist as I signed him for Cancelo

Calvert-Lewin and Werner– both removed from my watchlist

Tierney – removed from watchlist injured for 6 weeks

Cresswell – removed from watchlist with Rice out injured and a move to a back 5 meaning Cresswell returns to a CB position

Martinez – don’t like Villa’s fixture run and I missed the Emi boat.

These are the variety of options I am going to decide between:

  1. Aubameyang to Salah or Sterling and Bamford/ Watkins to Iheanacho
  2. Aubameyang to Jota/ Mahrez and Bamford/ Watkins to Lacazette, Vardy, Aguero or Jesus
  3. Or even going as far as 3 transfers on a -4 to do a mini WC and sell Auba, Bamford and Dallas.

I am most likely to do move 1 or 2 above but whether I take the plunge on a third Man City asset for my team just to captain vs Leeds is yet to be seen. Number 3 is just there to give an idea into my wider thought process with so many options available that I have paralysis of choice.

GW32 & 33

  1. I am likely to sell Son and or Gundogan once the Spurs DGW32 is up and we enter the BGW33 for both teams.
  2. I hope to navigate till pre GW34 before needing to activate my WC and hopefully there is more news by then regarding the potential DGW35 and BGW36.
