Despite the low scores and thin benches in Gameweek 16, patience is the most important piece of advice for the weeks ahead. Many FPL managers will struggle to get close to a full playing 11 out on the field.
This is my second team reveal article and we will continue the chip strategy discussion we started in the first team reveal debut with my Wildcard team. Importantly I am in a similar boat as Ben Crellin, and so it looks like I cannot get out of the FH18 and BB19 strategy.
Once BGW18 and DGW19 are over, I shall begin to include an ongoing Watchlist in these Team Reveal articles. Instead of the current discussions being dominated by my personal chip strategy plans.
Gameweek 16 Review
Points: 59 points + Gameweek rank: 239k
Overall rank: 252k. After 4 captain blanks in a row (I include the Kevin De Bruyne 4 pointer), I’ve managed to reach my highest OR so far this season! The above is my GW16 Wildcard team for FH18 + BB19.
I’m very happy with my green arrow, going from 381,639 to 251,986. I am still 26 points away from the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season).
I feel confident of achieving this by the end of the season but the all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 72 points behind!
Once again, having a strong bench was the big difference to overall scores this Gameweek. Or in my case triple Leeds players on a Wildcard.

Some thoughts about this plus my overall chip strategy going into the blank and double gameweek:
- I dodged the Kane captaincy in GW16, not that Salah’s 3 points was much better! I still intend on captaining Son vs Leeds (H) in FPL GW 17.
- I will still be using Free Hit in Gameweek 18 as I will only have 4 players that Gameweek (Son, Kane, Bruno and Dias).
- I am still likely to Bench Boost in Gameweek 19 with15 double gameweek players
- I shall use the second Wildcard in Gameweek 25 once we’ve been given the double gameweek fixtures for 26 and corresponding blanks in gameweek 29.
- Likely to then to use Triple Captain in Gameweek 26 (on Son or Kane, if Spurs make the EFL cup final then it is likely they will have a double in Gameweek 26).
- The second wildcard team will have some blank gameweek 29 players as I only need 11 for the double gameweek 26 triple captain team. I can use 4 free transfers between Gameweek 26 and 29 to bring in more blank gameweek players.
- Finally, the Gameweek 33 blank is likely to be much smaller with just 2 matches being moved out of the fixture list.

Let me explain the decision I need to make before the 16:00 GMT deadline for FPL GW 17 tomorrow.
When I wildcarded, my pre-planned transfer in FPL GW 17 was to turn Kane into Vardy. There was rumours of Vardy being given a rest in GW16 and I hoped to capitalise on Kane vs Fulham at the time (we all know how that ended). The idea being that in DGW19 I could then turn Son into Rashford and maximise on DGW players for the Bench Boost.
With news that Manchester City and Aston Villa both now have Double Gameweek fixtures in GW19 (and no blank in Gameweek 18), this has led to a lot of rethinking through of the strategy as a whole. I even toyed with the idea that because Manchester United and Burnley now both also play in GW18 (and keep their DGW19 fixtures), that perhaps I could get out of using a FH18.
However, after lots of tinkering, I can only get between 4-6 players maximum for GW18 without the Free Hit. As such I feel that I am now committed to seeing through the initial strategy and make the best of the surpises. With this in mind I now have to use my FT prior to GW17 otherwise it will not carry over into GW19 due to my FH in GW18.
I can stick to the original plan and make the Kane to Vardy move this week but then only have Dias from Man City for their DGW19. Or I can do one of the alternative two options below to fund a Man City attacker by DGW19 with 2FT or 2FT and a -4 hit.
- GW17, Kane to Vardy, GW18 use FH and Son to Rashford in DGW19 to use BB
- GW17, Kane to Martial, GW18 use FH and Son to De Bruyne in DGW19 to use BB
- GW17, Kane to Watkins/Antonio, GW18 use FH and then take -4 for Son to De Bruyne & Raphinha/Soucek to Pulisic (or other £8.5m MID) in DGW19 to use BB
It is extremely frustrating that this decision which has lasting impact on my chip strategy for the next 3-4 GWs has to be made by 16:00 GMT tomorrow 1st January. We are unlikely to know whether Spurs could get a DGW19 before that deadline.
I am most likely to pick between Option #1 and #2 above as taking a -4 to sell a player like Raphinha/Soucek with decent DGW fixtures seems a bit extreme. So do I go for the nailed on minutes from Vardy and Rashford or the more risky minutes from Martial to fund De Bruyne?!
I will be holding off on my transfer till the last possible moment incase further news about postponed games or rescheduled games breaks before the FPL deadline.
*Pre-Deadline Changes to my FPL GW 17 Team*
I may make some late changes on Friday nearer the deadline but won’t have time to update the article. As such I have included some ideas of what these changes may be in the article above so that you can see the thinking behind my decision-making process.
Additionally, at the end of the article you can find some example Free Hit teams for Blank Gameweek 18 that I am currently tinkering with.
l look forward to hearing your thoughts and discussing your transfers in the lead up to the Gameweek 17 deadline at 16:00 GMT on Friday 1st January 2021.

FPL Gameweek 18 Free Hit Combinations
Two variations of my GW18 FH draft that I am tinkering with below. First version is a 3-4-3 with Calvert-Lewin against Wolves (a).
The second FPL GW18 FH variation has Grealish as a fifth midfielder instead of Calvert–Lewin as a third forward.
