In a season where a lot was expected out of Everton After having appointed Marco Silva as their manager, it turned out to be another season where they couldn’t outshine their noisy merseyside neighbours who went on to win their 6th champions league title and finished just one point off Manchester City. But nevertheless they had a promising end of season run with 6 wins and three draws in their last 11 games with victories over Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal to end the season.2019/20 could well be a breakthrough season for the Merseyside club if they could continue from where they left last season.
STYLE OF PLAY:
Everton play a fluid 4-2-3-1 under Marco Silva with Andre Gomes and Idrisa gueye double pivot in the center of the park this style of play allows the full backs to push forward more, Gyli sigurdsson played the number 10 role to perfection to have his career best season in PL, Bernad and Richarlison played out wide and cut through the pockets of spaces in the flanks. But a lack of commanding goal scoring forward affected Everton badly last season.
PRE SEASON FORM:
Having started their preseason with a penalties win over Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, Everton have went on to win just one more match against Monaco and have drawn two and lost two.
7 July Kariobangi Sharks 1-1 (4-3 pens) Everton
14 July Sion 0-0 Everton
19 July Monaco 0-1 Everton
24 July Wigan 0-0 Everton
27 July Mainz 3-1 Everton
27 July Sevilla 1-0 Everton
3 August v Werder Bremen
Player INS and OUTS:
Everton had a solid defensive record after having secured 8 clean sheets in the last 11 PL games but with Zouma unlikely to return after completing his loan spell and the departure of Gueye to PSG for 28 million has suddenly left a void on the Everton playing 11, it is to be seen if Everton could find suitable replacement before the transfer deadline.
Fabian delph has arrived from Man city and the two time premier league champion has arrived with vast of experience at the top level, having played out of position at LB under Pep Guardiola, Delph is set to be back playing in the Midfield at Everton. Although his FPL impact needs to be seen as he is more likely be playing in a deeper position with the like of Gylfi,Richarlison playing in advanced positions.
Andre gomes has however been signed on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell last season in which he had a successful partnership with Gueye in the middle of the park
FPL FAN FAVOURITES FROM LAST SEASON:
Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan pickford, Richarlison and Lucas digne where the popular FPL picks from last season. Sigurdsson was the highest scoring FPL player from Everton with 182 points having scored 13 goals and assisting 6 more of them. Jordan Pickford collected an impressive 161 points last season the third highest points scored for keeper just 8 points behind Ederson. Lucas Digne was the standout performer out of all them the full back costing just 4.5 Mil last season scored 158 points having scored 4 goals and assisted 5 of them, digne topped the bonus points scored as well scoring 22 bonus points last season thanks to his all round exploits. Richarlison too had a productive season and justified the money Everton paid to acquire his service ending the season with 13 goals 3 assists and 153 FPL points.
3 MUST OWN PLAYERS FROM EVERTON THIS SEASON:
1.GYLFI SIGURDSSON 8MIL:
Having had his best individual premier league season with 19 goal involvements last season, Gylfi is expected to replicate the same kind of form this season, with VAR implemented in PL this year there could be an increase in the number of penalties and free kicks awarded and Gylfi is a dead ball specialist thereby his chances of scoring often or getting assists increases at 8 million Gylfi could be the alternative to big money premium midfielders from the TOP 6.
2.LUCAS DIGNE 6.5MIL:
The former Barcelona left back had a phenomenal first season in england exceeding everyone’s expectation, Now priced at 6 million he’s now amongst the elite fullbacks and has an ownership of 27% at the time of writing. Even though there some concerns with the CB pairing with Zouma leaving back for chelsea and yerry mina having had a disappointing first season there might be no guarantee if everton can replicate their good defensive run which earned them 8 CS in 11 games towards the end of the last season, But Digne’s attacking return is too good to be ignored.
If you are not convinced by the high pricing of Digne and looking for a cheaper alternative, Semus Coleman could be an ideal pick with the veteran RB providing decent attacking returns as well, you could save 0.5 mil by choosing Coleman instead of Digne.
3. Richarlison 8MIL:
FAST,DIRECT and LETHAL .It’s safe to say Richarlison has adapted to life in Premier league effortlessly scoring 18 goals and further assisting 11 more in his first two seasons in england, having become a regular for the brazil national team as well there’s no stopping the samba boy. With a favourable fixtures in the opening few game weeks richarlison could be an interesting pick , another interesting point to mention is Richarlison scored a brace against wolves in GW 1 last season, you might be even looking at your potential gameweek 1 captain as well.
DIFFERENTIALS:
With Moise Kean set to join from Juventus and talks ongoing with Crystal palace for the transfer of wilfred zaha there is still no guarantees on who will start as the striker but DOMINIC CALVERT LEWIN could be a differential having scored regularly towards the end of last season and at a price of 6 mil he’s surely one to watch out.
Players to avoid:
Bernard and Walcott had a poor campaign last season and Walcott in fact was benched in the last few game weeks which resulted in better performances for Everton.
Yerry Mina too had a disappointing first season and in no ways is a justification for the 5.5 million price tag in FPL.
Pickford had a brilliant end to the season with 8 clean sheets in 11 games, but with uncertainties with the center back pairing and considering his price,5.5Mil as well it is a huge risk to gamble i would advise you to spend an extra 0.5 Mil and rather go for a premium keeper top 6.
ALLABOUTFPL VERDICT:
With no games against the big teams until GW7 and just one big game against the defending champions in the opening ten game weeks, Everton have a great run of fixtures which is definitely interesting and tripling up on everton players is not a bad option!
