GW 24 Review & DGW 25 Plans

Points: 83 points + GW rank: 1.6m

I beat my 8th opponent in the FPL Cup (83 vs 54 points). I was very pleased with Gundogan (38 points as he was my captain). Antonio didn’t play but getting Coufal (6 points) off the bench was a decent sub.

The biggest disappointments were that of my 4 DGW players, only Cancelo actually played 2 games. Mee and Gundogan were injured in the first game and Dias only played the second game.

Also spending more money on Mee than Lowton means that I now have to use 2FT to get to Kane from Antonio. Whereas Lowton got 17 points vs Mee’s 6 points and I would not have needed to make 2 moves for Kane.

It feels like a crazy season when 83 points plus a 19 point captain is still a small red arrow in overall rank! In fact, DGW24 was my first captaincy call that didn’t blank since KDB in DGW19. As such, I have been stagnating within the same rank bracket since GW19 (150k-200k). I got a very small red arrow this GW.

My overall rank dropped from 174k to 187k.

Overall Rank going into FPL DGW 25

I am now 25 points away from the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season).

Feeling confident of achieving this by the end of the season but the all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 94 points behind! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (49 points behind right now).

FPL Double Gameweek 25 (26, 27 & 28) and Blank Gameweek (29)

The most fun part of the season has always been the DGWs for me. DGW 24 has now come to an end and we are expecting an imminent announcement of DGW26, 27 and 28. Ahead of that though, Southampton and Leeds have 2 fixtures each in DGW 25.

See below for an important update from Mr Double Gameweek, Ben Crellin. Make sure to read this tweet below incase the PL do not announce the upcoming DGW26-28 fixtures, before the DGW 25 deadline on Friday 19th February.

The 5 GWs including the likely DGW 26, 27, 28 fixtures can be seen in this longer-term view above. I am focusing on Aston Villa, Everton, Southampton and Tottenham players for this period (I already have 3 Man City players and it is my recommended starting point).

There is a small chance that Southampton could have 3 consecutive DGWs between DGW25 -27. Man City, Everton and Aston Villa could all have 2 DGWs in this period.

Spurs and Aston Villa are the only potential match to be added to the three fixtures in Blank GW29. This makes both these teams really useful as the only teams who can have DGW26 but not blank in GW29.

Some thoughts about this plus my revised approach to DGW25, 26 & 27 + BGW29 & BGW33

  • I succeeded in my plan to have 2FT ahead of DGW 25 and have already completed my move for Justin to Dallas with 1FT.
  • If Southampton has 3DGWs in a row, I may upgrade Antonio to Ings before the deadline. Otherwise, I will likely roll the FT again to have 2FT going into DGW26.
  • I intend on using the majority of my FTs between DGW 25 and BGW 29 on players from teams who are likely to have DGW 26 but not blank in BGW 29 (I used FH in BGW 18).
  • I intend on using FTs to prepare for FPL DGW 25 – 28 + BGW 29 with my second Wildcard being triggered around GW 31 to prepare for the final stretch of the season.
  • Teams who I have players for in BGW29 have decent fixtures in GW30 so it makes holding the WC till GW31 easier.
  • I’m still eager to use Triple Captain in DGW 26 (on Kane or Son, Spurs will have the two best DGW 26 fixtures)
  • I do regret not activating the TC chip on Gundogan in DGW24.

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy.

Captain for FPL DGW 25

I cannot look past Bamford. His non-penalty xG is much higher than Raphinha. He is also now on penalties so this really swings it for me.

Although Raphinha is a great differential captain, his very low effective ownership means I should gain rank from whatever he does. If I don’t captain Bamford, I fully expect him to be well above the 100% EO and thus it would hurt me as an owner.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Bamford, Raphinha and Ings. Incase you wanted to have a look at the three DGW players I like the most for captaincy this week.

Bruno is also a fantastic option at home to Newcastle but I would much rather captain a DGW player personally.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Bamford on 9.4 points in DGW 25

FFH Predicted Points Tool has Raphinha on 7.6 points in DGW 25.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Ings on 8 points in DGW 25.

Updated Watchlist for FPL DGW 25:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team over the next 5 GWs. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Martinez, Areola

Out-list: Johnstone

Defenders: Konsa, Targett, Maguire, Digne, Rudiger.

Out-list: Mee

Midfielders: Grealish, Barnes, Maddison

Out-list: None

Forwards: Ings, Kane, Werner

Out-list: Antonio

Players I’ve removed/added to my Watchlist ahead of FPL DGW 25:

Added

Mee – added to my out-list so that he can become Konsa in GW 26 and help me fund a possible Antonio/Bamford to Kane move that week.

Removed

Rodrigo – was on my out-list but I sold him for Watkins last GW.

Justin- was on my out-list but I sold him for Dallas with a FT ahead of DGW 25.

Dallas– removed from my watchlist as I just transferred him into my team.

Watkins – removed from my watchlist as I bought him as a Rodrigo replacement last GW.

Lookman – was on my watchlist for DGW 24 but I didn’t buy him and do not intend on buying him in the future now either.

Lacazette – removed from my watchlist as Arsenal don’t have great fixtures. May revisit Arsenal assets on my GW 31 Wildcard.

Lowton – removed from my watchlist as I got Mee for the DGW 24 fixtures instead.

These are the 3 options I am going to decide between tomorrow:

  1. Antonio to Ings
  2. Save my second FT so I have 2FT again in DGW 26 for a double swap.
  3. Antonio to Kane and Mee to Konsa (-4 points hit), I will only do this if it looks like I could be priced out of the move by waiting till GW26 to do it without a hit.

I already did Justin to Dallas with one of my two FTs

In DGW26:

  1. Mee to Konsa and Antonio to Kane (if I stick with option #2 above and do no further moves this week)
  2. If I do Antonio to Ings in GW 25, I will do Bamford to Kane in 26 and fund it with one of Bruno/Salah/Son being turned into Grealish or a Leicester midfielder (-4 points hit).

I am hoping that we hear definitive news regarding DGW 26 fixtures and get confirmation of whether Spurs vs Villa will be moved to BGW 29.
