FanTeam EPL Season Game vs FPL

Many of you would have played FPL for a while and might be very familiar with it. Fanteam’s scoring & rules are also majorly similar to FPL, with some differences. Let’s quickly have a quick look at how FPL & Fanteam are different before diving into the strategy section.
- Deadline: The fanteam deadline is the kickoff of the first game/s in a particular gameweek. FPL deadline is 90 minutes before the kick-off of the first game of the gameweek.
- Transfers: You can carry over any number of free transfers, and there is no maximum limit for saved free transfers until a wildcard activation, at which point transfers revert to zero. In FPL, you can save only up to five free transfers, but saved transfers can be carried over after the wildcard.
- Chips: Wildcard is the only chip in Fanteam, with one wildcard for each half of the season.
- Price changes: Unlike FPL, price changes in Fanteam happen only once a week, and after the gameweek deadline, you get 100% of the profit.
- Bonus points: There are no bonus points in Fanteam
- Reversible transfers: The only difference is that the transfers are provisional and take effect only when the gameweek starts. You can revert your changes until each gameweeks deadline. (You can make early transfers to avoid being priced out without the worry of injury problems)
Strategy for the Fanteam Season Game:
- Team structure – Since no bonus points are on offer, it’s better to go for a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3 strategy.
- Midfielders pick up one more point than forwards for goals scored, and have one point for a clean sheet.
- Five midfielders offer managers a lot of upside, but 3 forwards is also not bad, especially with the availability of decent, cheap budget forwards over cheap midfielders.
Sample drafts:

- Transfers are reversible, so you can make early moves and then later change. If in case the player you transferred in is injured/unavailable or benched(only if it’s the first kick off of the week), or you have other issues to handle in your team, you can cancel the transfer made earlier and then make changes to your team.
- There’s +0.3 points for a player if his team is winning while the player is on the pitch, and -0.3 pts for a player if his team is losing while he’s on the pitch, so try and get players from teams that are winning frequently.
- Likewise, there’s a +1 point for attackers completing 90 minutes, so look for attackers who complete 90 minutes frequently. (Ex: Salah(Obvious!), Bowen, Rogers, Semenyo, Caicedo)
- Take the example of Caicedo: He’s only 5.0 million in Fanteam. He completed 90 minutes in 33/38 games last season, which means he bagged 33 points just by playing 90 minutes. In FPL last season, Caicedo had only 98 points, but in fanteam he bagged 128.8 pts, a difference of 30 pts!

- Similarly, Semenyo, who also plays 90 minutes in most games, finished with 191.9 pts in Fanteam (7th highest overall) vs 165 pts in FPL(13th highest overall). One point for finishing 90 minutes might seem small per gameweek, but when you look at the full season, that’s a big number!
- Shots on target get you points as well(+0.6 for defenders, +0.4 for midfielders/forwards), keep an eye on attackers who shoot frequently. Semenyo, for instance, had 41 shots on target(4th highest amongst midfielders last season), earning 16.1 points last season through this.

- Look for set piece and penalty takers as they offer multiple avenues to points, see reference below an all-out attack of penalty takers.
- Pick a 4.5 million goalkeeper and don’t spend more on that, as each save gets you 0.5 points, so even if clean sheet chance is less, 4.5 GKs will compensate with save points. Leno, who is 4.5 million in Fanteam this season, made 110 saves(5th highest) last season, which earned him 55 points. He finished with 140.3 pts on Fanteam, which are decent returns for a 4.5 set-and-forget keeper.

- Don’t spend too much on defenders as you’ll look to start only 3 defenders each week(3/4/3 or 3/5/2), go for one/two premiums(ex: Cucurella, Ait Nouri, Gabriel etc), one/two mid priced defenders(Munoz, Tarkowski etc), one/two 4.5 defenders(AWB, Truffert, De Cuyper etc) and one 4.0 defender(Esteve/Reinildo).
Fanteam New Customer Offer
Fanteam are also offering a new customer offer: If you deposit a minimum of 10 pounds and play any cash game, you’ll get a free £10 EPL Season Game entry and £20 in fantasy tickets(10* 2 pounds)
- Defensive double ups are better in Fanteam as the clean sheets are distributed equally without bonus points in the game, look for double ups from decent teams having good value defenders(Ex: All Everton defenders are 4.5, Lacroix & Richards at 4.5, Diouf and AWB at 4.5) or even combinations like Colwill & Cucurella(11 million for two chelsea defenders with one hainvg incredible attacking potential)
- No free hits in the game, so you need to plan and carefully use FTs, as bad planning cannot be rectified by a free hit.
- No extra free transfers for AFCON period like FPL, so you have to be prepared to handle AFCON departures with Free transfers. AFCON starts from GW17 onwards, with players likely to leave before GW16 for training/friendlies

Captaincy, Transfers & Wildcard Strategy:
- Play it safe with captaincy in the early gameweeks as chasing is harder in Fanteam than FPL, remember boring is good when it comes to captaincy.
- Avoid hits as much as possible, start the season aggressively, and use the first wildcard if it doesn’t work out well. If you have a good start, then delay the first wildcard as much as possible since a later wildcard 1 will help you plan for the 2nd half of the season. Definitely save the 2nd wildcard for double/blank gameweek planning later in the season. Save up on free transfers in the 2nd half and use the saves FTs to dead end into a blank gameweek, you can then use the wildcard to set up for the remaining games
- Find a balance when it comes to rolling and using free transfers. Always try to have 2-3 free transfers to react to shifts easily without hits. Remember, you can roll any number of free transfers in fanteam up until the wildcard. Once you hit wildcard, your free transfers go back to zero. Always use up free transfers before using a wildcard.
- Lastly, you can enter up to five teams, so if you plan to start with multiple teams, make sure you have got teams from a smaller & trusted player set(Players who are safe/nailed without risks) and then differentiate in terms of strategy for the different teams later.
That’s it from us in this blog, good luck with the Fanteam season game. We’ll be back with a budget/value picks in Fanteam soon, stay tuned!
