Hello FPL managers! Welcome to our FPL Midfielders Watch. In this article, we’ll dive into the underlying stats of top FPL midfield maestros/innate dribblers who are likely to explode into form within the next four gameweeks.
Our focus for this post is from FPL Gameweeks 25-28; we’ll be analysing data from recent matches and sharing insights on the players likely to deliver big FPL points. Let’s get into it!
Note: We have left out very obvious midfielders like Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer in this blog as they are obvious picks and our focus is on lesser-owned FPL midfielders who could be promising differentials.

Midfield Watch Review: GW 21-24 Selections
Before we reel out our favourite midfield picks for the next four weeks, let’s take a moment to reflect on the performances of our previous selections from Gameweeks 21 to 24:
- Bruno Fernandes – One goal scored and delivered a sub-par total of 16 FPL points.
- Eberechi Eze – Two assists and contributed 15 FPL points.
- Savinho – Limited minutes (180) resulted in 10 FPL points with two assists to his name
- Anthony Elanga – Four assists provided, resulting in 24 FPL points within January.
- Jacob Murphy – Two assists totaling 19 FPL points.
Summary: Anthony Elanga was the standout performer with an impressive 24 points, while Savinho struggled due to limited game time, finishing with only 10 points.
Top FPL Midfielders To Consider from Gameweeks 25-28
Just to establish a few metrics used for this piece, we will be measuring FPL assets with the best fixtures against form, non-expected penalty goals/expected assists, and shots on target, along with necessary data from FFHUB(Subscribe with 30% off).
Semi-Premium Midfielders
Phil Foden (£9.3m) – Man City (TSB, 8.3% ownership)
After facing a dry spell in the first half of the 2024/25 season, Foden started the new year with a goal-driven mentality. The Englishman has delivered seven attacking returns for Manchester City, contributing a total of 51 points in his last five outings.
However, the question remains: Could Foden be overperforming, or can he maintain this newfound form? Let’s delve into a few statistics below.
Phil Foden’s underlying numbers this season:
- Contributed 0.30 non-penalty expected goals per 90 minutes.
- Averaging 0.31 expected assists per 90 minutes.
- Created 35 chances (22 from open play) for Man City.
- An expected goal involvement of 9.5 xGI and
- Had 72 touches in the opposition box.
In terms of form, Foden is catching up with the elite FPL premiums, as the Manchester City attacker is ranked second among midfielders with a form of 10.8, averaging 4.7 points per match.
Therefore, the question of selecting Foden then boils down to two factors: price tag and fixtures. At £9.3m, it’s a bit pricey to bet on Foden, while on paper, Man City fixtures don’t look great with the Cityzens set to face Newcastle, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest in their next four fixtures.

At this stage of the season, selecting Foden could be considered a high-risk, high-reward move, as his present form could outperform the tough fixtures ahead. According to our FFHub projections, Phil Foden is projected to score an estimate of 21.3 points within Gameweeks 25-28, ranking in the top seven projectiles for midfielders.
For FPL managers brave enough to back the Englishman during the month of February or searching for a budget downgrade from Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to an in-form FPL asset, ‘Stockport Iniesta’ could be a compelling asset to target for the next four game weeks.
Mid-Priced FPL Midfielders
Leandro Trossard (£6.8m) – Arsenal (TSB, 2.5% ownership)
No Gabriel Jesus ❌, Bukayo Saka ❌(set to return in March), and now Gabriel Martinelli, who is set to be on the sidelines for a month. The Gunners’ frontline has been stretched thin to bare bones, with only Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, and Raheem Sterling available.
For those searching for a direct Arsenal replacement for Martinelli? Fear not; Super Trossard is here! 😃
In terms of underlying stats, the 30-year-old has bagged in a total of 26 FPL points, amassing a total of nine attacking returns all season.
According to our FFHub estimates, Trossard is projected to score an estimate of 20.1 points within Gameweek 25-28. These projections suggest a possible U-turn in form for Leandro Trossard as Arsenal take on Leicester and West Ham in their next two games.

In light of the club’s current injury situation, the Belgian minutes will significantly improve, as he will be a key attacking option for Mikel Arteta to rely on, and at less than 3% ownership, Leonardo Trossard could be the next FPL “Dango Ouattara” who produces a double-digit haul.
Budget-Friendly Picks (£6m or below)
Justin Kluivert (£5.9m) – Tottenham (TSB, 19.6% ownership)
Topping the FPL form table and amassing a total of 48 points in his last five games for Bournemouth, Justin Kluivert was recently decorated Premier League Player of the Month for his outstanding performances in the month of January, where he contributed five goals and two assists for the Cherries. 🍒
Here are some underlying numbers from Justin Kluivert in the month of January:
- Contributed 2.54 expected goals in his last five games.
- 14 shot attempts resulting in 5 goals and a goal conversion rate of 35.7%
- 6 Key passes and created a total expected assists of 0.81 xA
- 30 touches in the opposition box and
- Exceeded his expected points of 27.74 xPts and outscored “Ice Cold” Cole Palmer by a margin of 18 FPL points.
Consistency is the key to success! In terms of goals, creativity, and overall attacking threat, there is no reason to doubt Kluivert’s recent performances; as he has proven to FPL managers, he is a top pick to have in your FPL team.

Did I forget to mention the 25-year-old is the main penalty-taker for Bournemouth? Oops, even more reason to jump on the Dutchman if you are yet too, as he is predicted to gain a £0.1m price rise soon.
Morgan Rogers (£5.6m) – Aston Villa (TSB, 24.2% ownership)
A hat-trick in the final league phase game of the Champions League and a strong performance over the weekend against Spurs, contributing both a goal and assist. Unfortunately, since Gameweek 19, Rogers is yet to score a goal for Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Based on form, it’s hard to seemingly HOLD on to the Englishman, especially when he only contributed 0.10 expected goals in his last four EPL matches. It can be extremely frustrating having Rogers in your FPL team; however, he has done pretty well for his price tag and is just three points away from the 100-point mark.
Rogers’ FPL appeal is further heightened thanks to Aston Villa having a Double Gameweek and set to Ipswich and Liverpool with back-to-back home games. It’s only a matter of time until the 22-year-old finds his best scoring form.
Note: Morgan Rogers is just two yellow cards away from a two-match suspension and will be unavailable in Gameweek 29 as Aston Villa will have a blank Gameweek. Therefore, plan your transfer moves wisely when bringing in the Englishman!
Honourable Mention: Ethan Nwaneri (£4.5m) – Arsenal (TSB, 0.7% ownership)
Although the 17-year-old presents a fourth Arsenal attacking option and has the potential to establish himself as an established player for the Gunners. Ethan Nwaneri is at some point bound to share playing time with a much more experienced Raheem Sterling on the right wing.
With Arsenal’s ‘Starboy’ Bukayo Saka in recovery mode, it might be too risky to consider Nwaneri as a mainstay FPL asset, at least for now. Hence, Nwaneri is placed at the top of our FPL watchlist; let’s wait and see how his performances improve in the coming weeks.
And that wraps up our article! Hopefully, these insights assist fantasy managers in making those key decisions that keep you top of your mini-leagues. We’ll be back with more forward-planning tips by Blank Gameweek 29. Good luck, managers!
