Welcome to the FPL Gameweek 23 Captain Picks & Metrics blog. This week, there are strong captaincy candidates with good fixtures, including Isak, Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold, Wood, and Haaland, which makes captaincy interesting. Let’s see who tops the captaincy metrics for FPL GW24.
This season the metrics has a 16/23 return record. Last season the metrics finished with 560 points(26/38 returns). The metrics had a 31/37 “returns record” in the 22/23 season and a 30/38 “returns record” in the 21/22 season. Do follow the man behind the metrics @AK_FPL1(Do follow him on Twitter)

FPL GW24 Captaincy Metrics
FPL GW24 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
The captaincy poll this week is a one-man show with Mo Salah getting 81% of the votes, Gakpo who bagged 2 goals and an assist in GW23 is 2nd in the captaincy poll with 9% of the votes. Gakpo played in the UCL game while most of the other regulars were fully rested which has slightly made managers skeptical about going differential captain with Gakpo due to his xMins concern. Trent Alexander Arnold is 3rd in the captaincy poll this week, two Everton attackers Ndiaye and Lindstrom wrap up the top five in the captaincy poll this week.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 24 Captain picks
Salah comes out on top for underlying numbers with an xG of 4.29 and 26 Shots inside the Box from the last 6 games. He also has 6 big chances and created 20 chances in the PL over the last six games.
Gakpo is 2nd in the table with 2.48 xG in the last six games, he’s had the amount of big chances(6) as Salah during the period as well and has created 13 chances.
Ndiaye is 3rd in the table with an xG of 1.75, he’s had three big chances but has had only 4 shots inside the box.
Trent is 4th with only an xG of 0.48, he’s created 13 chances in the last six games including 3 big chances. Lindstrom is last with only 0.38 xG, it is to be noted his minutes are low, and has started only 3 of the last six games.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Liverpool top the Team Underlying Data with 15.28 xG over the last 6 matches which is the highest amongst all teams by a huge margin. The Reds have also had 98 shots inside the box and 25 big chances during the period.
Everton have had only 6.16 xG in the last six games with 11 big chances and only 37 shots inside the box.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW24
In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates.
We will use DraftHound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.
Double gameweek means the odds are high for the teams
Liverpool have a whopping 98% odds of at least 1 goal in DGW24 and 61.56% odds of scoring 2+ goals. Everton have an 84.8% odds of at least 1 goal and 30.25% odds of scoring 2+ goals in DGW24.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 24 Captain Picks
In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.
Salah is top for projections this week with 89% anytime returns & a 14.7 points projection in FPL GW24 vs Bournemouth(A), Everton(A)
Gakpo and Trent are joint 2nd for projection this week with Trent having a 83% anytime returns & a 9.4 points projection and Gakpo having a 73% anytime returns and a 9.7 points projection.
Ndiaye is 4th and has a 49% anytime returns & a 7.2 points projection in FPL DGW24 against Leicester(H) & Liverpool(H)
Lindstrom is last with a 59% anytime return & a 6.7 points projection.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 24 Captaincy metrics
In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). According to our captaincy metrics, the candidate with the lowest cumulative rank factor is the ideal captaincy option.
Salah tops the captaincy metrics with a CRF of 4 which is the least possible CRF in our metrics, Gakpo is 2nd with a CRF of 6. Trent is 3rd with a CRF of 8. Everton duo Ndiaye & Lindstrom are 4th & 5th in the metrics with a CRF of 15 and 17 respectively.
The DGW25 news has definitely made the triple captain vs Assistant manager chip for GW24 discussions interesting, if you’re planning to use triple captain in DGW24 then Salah definitely is the stand out option!
