Welcome to our FPL GW24 Scout Picks blog! DOUBLE GW ALERT, DOUBLE GW ALERT!!! Yes that’s right folks it’s officially the first DGW of the season, with both Merseyside clubs playing twice in GW24. More importantly – we beat the official FPL scout in GW23! Our team brought home a huge 78 points compared to the Scout’s measly 61, extending our lead to 14-9…

FPL GW24 Fixtures
FPL GW24 Scout Picks
FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper
It may shock many to find out that Pickford (5.1m) is in fact the second-highest-scoring GK in the game so far this season! The ex-Sunderland man has scored 95 points in the 24/25 season, just 4 short of current first place Sels despite having played 1 game less!
After an impressive performance in GW23 in which he kept a CS and made just 1 save, Pickford will be looking to repeat the trick against one or both of his opponents this round of fixtures. The two games offer different point-scoring opportunities for Everton’s keeper, with Leicester fourth from bottom for both xG and goals scored (thus the chance of a CS) and Liverpool topping the league for both shots and SOT per 90 (thus the chance of save points).
Leicester are the first team that the Toffees will be facing in GW24, with the Foxes averaging the second-fewest shots and SOT per 90 in the league so far this season. They’ve failed to score in 6 of their premier league games this campaign, with the majority of those coming since their change of manager in November. Everton on the other hand have the 6th fewest goals conceded in the league and are only 1 CS behind Liverpool who currently lead the division in this metric.
Liverpool is obviously a slightly more challenging fixture. With the Reds top for goals scored, xG, and most other attacking stats. That being said, as the old saying goes in a derby match “form goes out the window”. The Toffees will be buoyed by their consecutive victories against Spurs and Brighton (and possibly Leicester), and with the crowd behind them in their final Merseyside derby at Goodison anything could happen… Even if they don’t keep a CS Pickford is highly likely to get some save points, with opposition goalkeepers averaging 4.32 saves per 90 when playing Slot’s side.

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Defenders
Our back 3 is made up of Everton’s Mykolenko (4.4m), Liverpool’s TAA (7.3m) and Forest’s Aina (5.4m)!
Everything I wrote above about Everton’s CS potential in not only the Leicester game but also the Liverpool one applies here, and while of course, the Ukranian is unable to get save points, he does have the ability to get the odd attacking return… While he has just one assist to his name so far this season, he has managed 3 goals across his Everton career so far, so there’s always a chance that this week is the week…
Nonetheless, he’s the cheapest Everton defender who is guaranteed minutes and thus offers great value for those of us who are looking to double up to take advantage of the double in GW24. I’ll admit that Mykolenko is a fairly uninspired pick, but we thought it necessary to double up on Everton’s defense (in part due to their lack of attacking assets) and believe that Mykolenko is the best option!
Moving on to our third DGW player… Trent Alexander-Arnold! The scouser is not traveling with the Liverpool squad to play PSV in the Champions League this mid-week, meaning that he is highly likely to start, and play significant minutes, in both PL games. The Reds threw away their CS late on against Ipswich through lapses in concentration (perhaps due to it already being 4-0 to Liverpool), meaning that they missed the opportunity to move above Nottingham Forest in the CS table – both clubs remain on 9 CS for the season. Liverpool have conceded the joint fewest goals in the league and top the division for expected goals against – in short, they’re pretty good defensively…
Trent of course offers more than just CS potential – there’s a reason he’s priced at 7.3 million you know! He’s currently just 1 point behind top-scoring defender Aina, despite having played fewer minutes in the league this season, and has the second most assists among defenders with 6 (behind Robinson). He remains one of the most creative players in the Liverpool squad, averaging 0.39xA/90 as well as offering a real threat from free kicks. In the last 5 GWs, he’s managed 2 double-digit hauls, providing 2 assists, helping to keep 2 clean sheet,s and scoring once. He’s in great form and is likely to play twice – he’s essential for GW24.
Our final defender is Aina. Forest have been one of the surprises of the season, and that, in large part, has been down to their defense (and Chris Wood). They’ve kept the joint most clean sheets in the league and have conceded the joint fourth fewest goals. Aina has been integral to their defensive solidity, playing both on the left and right of a back 4 and back 5, as well as chipping in with the odd goal contribution!
Forest face Brighton in GW24, a team who were limited to just 0.64xG in GW23 against Everton, a side who, arguably, play a similar style to that of Forest. While the game between the two earlier this season ended 2-2, with both sides putting up over 1xG, I wouldn’t necessarily bet against Forest keeping a CS, especially considering that the Tricky Trees are at home this time around!
Nuno’s side have faltered recently, suffering a traumatic defeat to Bournemouth in GW23 and a late scare against Southampton in GW22, but GW24 offers the perfect opportunity for them to get back on track with a favorable fixture at home against a team who are similarly low on confidence…

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Midfielders
Our midfield consists of three familiar faces and one new one! A Liverpool double-gameweek double-up of Salah (13.7m) and Szoboszlai (6.3m) is complemented by the duo of Mbeumo (7.3m) and Palmer (11.3m).
Salah is a must-have for the double, and he’s an obvious choice for captaincy, it’s his midfield teammate Szoboszlai’s selection that may raise a few eyebrows… Gakpo was the most popular Liverpool choice behind Salah and Trent and saw a huge increase in ownership going into GW23, but his inclusion in Liverpool’s Champions League squad in mid-week means that he is far less likely to start and play significant game time in both DGW games. Diaz, Szobo, Nunez, and other big names were all left to train in Merseyside rather than take the journey to PSV, so they are far more likely to start both DGW fixtures.
Since GW16, Szoboslai has the third-highest xGI/90 (of players to have played over 400 minutes), behind only Isak and Salah. The Hungarian midfielder has been averaging 0.9xGI/90, and showed in GW23 with a goal and an assist that he is capable of turning those underlying numbers into real-term output! Due to his security of minutes (with Elliot, the only real competition for his position playing 90 in mid-week), and his recent underlying numbers, he’s our third Liverpool pick for their huge DGW.
Next up is Palmer, who similarly to Salah, picks himself. While the Englishman has been far more patchy this season compared to last, his output is still fantastic. 14 goals and 7 assists are amazing, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Chelsea face West Ham in GW24, a side who continue to struggle under their new manager, and are winless in their last two matches against Palace and Villa. Chelsea themselves have been struggling lately, and their only win in their last 7 matches came in GW22 against Wolves.
Palmer’s personal underlying numbers (0.54xGI/90 in the last 5 matches) have dipped in recent weeks, mirroring and perhaps contributing to Chelsea’s poor form – but nonetheless, we’re backing him against the Hammers in GW24. Madueke is an interesting alternative, and his underlying numbers are actually superior to Palmer in the last 5 games – but due to Moresca’s tendency to rotate his wingers, it was too much of a risk to go for him. Furthermore, Palmer’s ownership is currently sitting at 65%, and is EO in the top 100K is close to 100% – going without him could be very dangerous…
Finally, we have Mbeumo. Brentford’s star man scored from the spot against Palace in GW23, taking his goal total to 14 for the season (+3 assists). As I write every time we include him in the AAFPL Scout picks team, he is still overperforming his xG numbers by quite a lot (8.59xG for the season v 14 goals), regardless his xGI/90 is decent for a player of his price.
Brentford’s upcoming fixture run is very attractive, with the Bees facing Dr Tottenham in GW24 followed by West Ham, Leicester, and Everton. Now looks like a great time to get back on the Wissa x Mbeumo train!

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Forwards
Completing the team we have: Newcastle’s Isak (9.5m), Villa’s Watkins (8.5m), and Everton’s Ndiaye (5.5m)!
Isak retains his place in the team, having returned a big 13 points for us in FPL GW23. We took him out of the AAFPL Scout picks team in GW22, avoiding Newcastle’s poor performance and Isak’s 2-pointer against Bournemouth, but have reaped the returns either side of it. His 13-point haul against Southampton makes it 5 double-digit hauls in the last 10 GWs for Isak. In spite of the Bournemouth result, the Magpies have 6 wins in 7, and continue to shoot up the table, with Isak playing an integral part in their recent success. His 0.98xGI/90 is world-class; there are few players in the league who can match it.
Next up is Watkins – who scored once and picked up two assists (and missed a pen) in Villa’s 4-2 win over Celtic on Wednesday night. While Rogers stole the show against the Scottish giants, Watkins proved his worth again with an excellent performance – showing why he remains Emery’s favoured striking option ahead of Duran (who looks likely to move on this transfer window!).
With Duran looking on his way out of the club, short-term Watkins will be Villa’s number 9 – week in, week out. While Malen may challenge him, or at least offer reasonable backup, it looks unlikely that he’ll be able to compete in the short term, as he’ll need to spend time getting to grips with Emery’s demanding style of play. Villa are currently unbeaten in 5, with Watkins picking up 3 goals and 2 assists in that time.
Emery’s side face Wolves in GW24, one of the teams-to-target-ish. Wolves are winless in 5, and have lost their last 4 matches in the league, 3 of them by 3 goals or more, and have conceded the third most goals (10) since the turn of the year. Great underlying numbers, great individual form, decent team form, and a good fixture in GW24 – what’s not to like!?
Finally, we have Ndiaye. 2 goals in his last 2 matches and a DGW in GW24 – it’s obvious why we’ve gone for him in this week’s AAFPL scout picks team. While his underlying numbers are fairly unconvincing, it’s his recent performances against Spurs and Brighton that have really put him onto many managers’ radars… I’m sure we’ve all seen the mazey run against Spurs, and the celebration post-penalty against Brighton – this man is prime Barclays!
He’s Everton’s highest scorer (with 5 goals) this season and has seen an uptick in his underlying numbers since Moyes took over the reigns at Goodison. But remind me, who do they face in GW24? Well, their two matches, as mentioned previously, are against Leicester and Liverpool….
Leicester have been conceding goals for fun since Van Nistelrooy took over, and have concede the third most goals in the league so far this season. The Foxes conceded 2 or more goals in all 8 of their fixtures between GW16 and GW22 and were lucky to concede just the one against Spurs in GW23. In their second match of the GW, they face arch-rivals Liverpool, and the Toffees will be keen to get one over the Reds in their final derby at their beloved Goodison Park – anything could happen…
