GW2 turned out to be one of the highest-scoring game week in the premier league era which saw a whopping 44 goals scored with only three teams keeping a clean sheet. The gameweek average was considerably high as well at 59 points thanks to all the goals. It’s still early days and now is not the time to stress over total points and overall ranks. FPL GW3 Differential picks
1. Phil Foden vs Leicester City(H) £6.5 Mil TSB: 5.5%
Phil Foden enjoyed a good run of games post restart last season playing a part in 9 games (Starting six games) and recorded 50 points including a monster haul of 22 points in DGW30+. Post restart foden registered 5 goals and a assist playing higher up the pitch. Against Wolves foden started on the right wing aside KDB and Sterling in front of rodri and Fernandinho allowing him the license to go forward and he was in the right place at the right time to finish of raheem sterling pass to put city up 2-0.
FODEN Post restart last season: Games: 9(3 sub appearances) Minutes: 537 Shots: 24 Shots on Target: 9 Shots inside box: 18 Big chances: 4 Goals: 5 Assists: 1 Points: 50
Foden registered 2 shots on goal, one on target, and had one big chance. Although not great numbers, Foden occupied dangerous positions inside the box and is expected to have more chances to score in the coming games. At £6.5 Mil, he’s a bargain to miss out, simply put there isn’t a budget midfielder in the same price range who’ll offer such value and chances of a big return than Foden.
2. Daniel Podence vs West Ham United (A) £5.5 Mil TSB: 2.8%
Podence has become a popular FPL asset in the FPL Community on twitter after an explosive start to the season with some eye-catchy performances against Sheffield and Man City over the opening two-game weeks. Now that Jota is gone the chances of Podence starting frequently have increased. Podence certainly did pass the eye test against City nutmegging KDB to put in a cross which jimenez put past Ederson to pull one back for wolves. Podence had a very good chance to score aswell going one on one with ederson and chipped him which eventually went over the goal.
Podence Stats this season over the first two games 2 shots One inside box 3 key passes Assists: 2 Goals: 0 FPL points: 11 Two big chances(joint highest) xA 0.87(fourth highest)
Looking at the above fixtures which makes Podence an even better option FPL option to consider in our FPL GW3 Team. The likes of ASM not living up to the pre-season hype, Podence could be a good straight swap. Although one thing to consider is that Wolves have brought Semedo from Barcelona and Adama Traore is expected to move higher up the pitch which could reduce the minutes for Podence who’ll be fitting for a starting spot with Neto. But by the looks of it Podence should continue starting for Wolves.
If you’re looking at a more nailed option then-teammate Adama Traore £6.5 Mil TSB: 16.5% could also be a very good FPL asset as he’ll no longer be covering the RWB spot now.
3. Mason Greenwood vs Brighton (A) £7.5 Mil TSB: 7%
Manchester United’s rising star Mason Greenwood is a deadly finisher and has time again proved he is a great FPL asset. Post restart Mason Greenwood enjoyed a consistent run of games playing upfront in the united attack scoring 5 goals and an assist, recording 50 FPL points during the period.
What makes Greenwood an eye-catching differential for FPL GW3 is a fact that he is a deadly finisher and is lightning fast with the ball and oh yes, strong with both foot. Potter’s Brighton are not known to sit back and defend even against big teams and generally play a high line which means one thing, a lot of goals. Another important point to note is that greenwood is listed as a midfielder meaning an extra point for a goal scored and a point for CS which further increases his FPL appeal.
The last time these two times faced in FPL GW32+ Greenwood scored a goal and assisted another totaling 12 FPL points including 3 bonus. The assist was a memorable one as well with a deadly counter that saw greenwood dish out a delightful cross for Bruno to head home. We expect more of the same come Saturday afternoon.
4. Chris Wood vs Southampton (H) £6.5 Mil TSB: 2.2%
Chris wood is one of the most consistent FPL budget forward over the last three seasons having managed to score 10+ goals in each season. The 2019/20 season saw wood finish with 14 goals and 136 FPL points. However, wood has been less talked about and owned in FPL this season with just 2% of managers trusting the Burnley forward.
Wood ended the last season on a high having scored in three consecutive GW’s and has continued from were he left scoring in his first game of the season against Leicester. He’s up against a Saints side who conceded five goals against Spurs in FPL GW2 and have conceded the second most big chances(7) so far this season. We expect Wood to be amongst the goals come GW3.
5. Che Adams vs Burnley (A) £5.9 Mil TSB: 2.9%
Bit of a surprise pick but Che Adams has been such an FPL asset over the opening two weeks having had all the stats to his backing Adams could still not find the back of the net in the opening two weeks. Adams had three big chances, registered 5 shots, 5 inside the box, three on target, and registered an xG of 1.42, again all the stats without scoring a goal. He’s up against a Burnley side who conceded 14 shots on goal and four goals against Leicester in GW2 and looked a bit off defensively.
We expect the Burnley vs Southampton game to a high scoring one and Adams could possibly end his search for a goal against the clarets. If you’re a Che Adams owner hold him for another week or if you’re on wildcard he could be a cheeky punt considering that he has dropped in price a couple of days back.
Few other Differential picks to consider ahead of FPL GW3
Trossard vs Man United (H) £6.0 Mil TSB: 0.9%, Trossard has had a good start to the season scoring a goal and assisting one more in the opening two weeks. He came close to scoring against Newcastle as well hitting the post. Over the first two games trossard has registered 4 shots, 2 on target, 5 key passes (Second in the league), 2 big chances created(most in the league), Xa(0.98) third-most in the league, and 14 points. Although he faces United in GW3, Brighton & trossard face a good run of fixtures post GW3 and could be good option especially if you’re on a wildcard.
Raheem Sterling vs Leicester City (H) £11.5 Mil TSB: 5.5% could be another very good differential pick, yes it is surprising, to be honest, to put him in once again in the differential blog. But for some reason, his ownership is just a bit above 5%. Sterling was unlucky not to score against wolves and will look to correct the same. Now that Aguero is out for sometime Sterling is expected to do the bulk of the scoring for city and we all know how explosive Sterling can be on his day. If you’re on a wildcard then a double-up of KDB and Sterling could also be a great option.
