FPL GW19 Tips – Preview and Dilemmas Answered
1) What to do with Man City players going into FPL GW19?
It was another frustrating week for FPL managers as popular options like Phil Foden and Joao Cancelo got benched, with the latter not even featuring in GW18. We are slowly getting to a point where our patience with both players is running out. The question is: what to do with them?
With Cancelo entirely rested in GW18, I expect him to start this week against Chelsea. It’s an away fixture, and the likelihood of Cancelo starting is high. I will keep him for one more week and see if he starts. If not, then players like Akanji (£5m) can be a potential replacement from Man City itself. I see Akanji starting the next few games, but Pep Roulette is always risky.
With fixtures reading CHE(A), MUN(A) and TOT(H) in the next three games, one can argue the clean sheet potential is less. One thing to note is the last two mentioned games fall in a double gameweek, and GW23 is also a double gameweek with AVL(H) and ARS(A).
While you are putting yourself in a good position by getting a Man City defender for the sheer volume of games till GW23, nailing the right one can be challenging. The alternate strategy here is to go for Ederson in goal. It is doubtful he is going to get rested/lose his place in the playing XI. You will get the clean sheet points at a bare minimum, even if you don’t get any attacking upside.
Coming to Foden and this gets even trickier. The Man City attacker has started only once in the last six games. I see him starting this week, but I understand the temptation to take him out. It is only viable to move towards Kevin De Bruyne, who looks like the nailed attacker in the Man City lineup. If you are playing safe, that is the move to go for this week.
If you want something other than a Man City midfielder option, you can even replace Foden with Saka from Arsenal. The Arsenal midfielder looks in great touch and is the 6th highest-scoring midfielder in the game. Odegaard from Arsenal is another dependable option if you are looking for more value. He is only £6.5m in price and has six attacking returns in the last three games.
Marcus Rashford is another in-form pick you can target as a replacement. The Man United attacker has 19 points in the last two gameweeks despite playing only one half in GW18 against Wolves because of disciplinary issues.
KDB and Haaland are perfect holds for this week. Haaland is more or less a permanent option but do keep a close eye on KDB. If you see his performances dropping in the coming games, you can easily switch to Salah or go even cheaper and get the most in-form players for your FPL team.

2) Is it worth moving to Mitrovic in FPL GW19?
Mitrovic has been one of the best forwards after premium options like Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. He already has 12 attacking returns this season and has been Fulham’s leading man in attack.
The biggest concern with Mitrovic is that he is on four yellow cards for the season. One more card before Gameweek 20, and he will get suspended for one game in the Premier League. Despite that, he is an excellent option for the Double Gameweek in GW19.
The bigger question for me is who to take out if the plan is to get Mitrovic in GW19. Among premium picks, if you have Kane, you can downgrade him to Mitrovic and upgrade options like Foden to KDB if that is a problem in your team. If not, then you can use that money to make upgrades elsewhere.
I want to keep Darwin Nunez from Liverpool for at least one more game. His overall performances have been good despite missing a lot of big chances in games against AVL(A) and LEI(H).
If you have Wilson, then the decision is slightly easier. Wilson is struggling to remain fit, and despite not being flagged, I dont expect to play 90 mins against ARS in GW19. Martial is another option that can be taken out for Mitrovic. Marcus Rashford is the player to target and can cover off the Man Utd attack.
Before going further do vote in FPL GW19 Captaincy Poll below. The metrics has a 14/17 successful returns record this season. Do vote in the captaincy poll for this week below. The captaincy metrics blog from @AK_FPL1 will be posted soon based on the votes.
3) Who are the best Reece James replacements ahead of FPL GW19?
James has had a tough season, getting injured in Gameweek 10 and missing out on a World Cup. He would have hoped for a better return but got injured in Gameweek 17 and is out for a month. Now, the question comes: who are the best replacements in defence?
If you don’t have Trippier, he should be a priority. Trippier is the best value defender in the game, already 37 points clear of the following best points scorer, Schar, from his team.
Man City is another team to target when looking for James’s replacements. With Cancelo benched in the last two games for Man City, he is no more the most nailed option. Akanji is another player to look at if you are looking to save money but still get a premium defender. He is only £5m and has started both games since the FPL restart.
The second option or direction is to look at teams like Man United and Arsenal. They have some great, slightly cheaper options that are great value and can act as great Reece James replacements.
I am starting with Arsenal, who has Ben White as a >£5m defender pick. He is slightly cheaper than Saliba and Gabriel, and I feel it is worth saving the extra £0.5-0.6m with him. The fixtures are somewhat tricky for Arsenal. The next four include NEW(H), TOT(A), MUN(H) and EVE(A)
The alternate is to go for Luke Shaw from Man United. The fixture in GW19 is BOU(H) before a tricky set of games of ARS and MCI. Post that, the fixtures get better, so it’s easily a longer-term move.
If you are looking at an alternate option, you can target Sven Botman (£4.4m) from Newcastle. He is an excellent double-up option with Trippier, as you are getting a cheap defender from the best defence in the league.
I wouldn’t say I like the other Chelsea options much, as some level of rotation is expected in the coming games. But because Chelsea has a double gameweek in GW19, you can go for players like Cucurella/Azpilicueta as immediate replacements. They won’t have the same attacking threat as James, but you are putting yourself in a position to get some good points if they perform well in the double gameweek.

4) Which Chelsea attackers are worth targeting for GW19?
Chelsea has a double gameweek in GW19, facing MCI(H) and FUL(A). The next three fixtures after that read CRY (H), LIV (A) and FUL (H). Most of these teams aren’t doing well defensively, and it might be worth targeting a Chelsea attacker.
Their top scorers are Havertz and Sterling, with four goals each, which is Chelsea’s main problem. There are no standout options in attack. Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling are realistic options in midfield, so if you are risking it, you can look at either of them.
Sterling is expected to start in attack and did manage to score in the last game against NFO. On the other hand, Mount has only returned in four games this season, the previous being in Gameweek 17 against BOU. The underlying stats for both players could be better, and they both are risky punts at best.
It’s tricky to choose between the two, but I’d go for Mount if I look at GW19 in isolation. Mount has started every game under Potter, and I’d expect that to continue. Suppose Mount and Sterling don’t work out. You can switch to players like Saka in GW20 if you are looking for a safe replacement.
Coming to forwards, Havertz is a differential punt you can look to get in your team. The issue with Havertz as a transfer is that he is competing with many forwards who might have a higher points potential. You have options like Mitrovic, Nunez and even Martial, who can easily outscore the Chelsea forward despite him having a double gameweek. Chelsea isn’t scoring enough goals, and Havertz, in particular, has been very inconsistent this season.

5) How many double gameweek players should you have for GW19?
Chelsea and Fulham have a double gameweek in GW19. Chelsea faces MCI(H) and FUL(A), whereas Fulham is up against LEI(A) and CHE(H). Starting with defenders, you should be good to go if you have one player from the Chelsea defence.
I have Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as my starting goalkeeper. He is a great budget option which is a nailed option in goal. He has been playing well for Chelsea and has averaged slightly more than four saves per start this season. As I mentioned in the blog, I don’t like the Chelsea defenders much, but Cucurella looks like a nailed option for both GW19 fixtures and can be brought in. I’d avoid any defensive options from Fulham, as they are an attacking team and have only kept four clean sheets all season.
Coming to midfielders, many managers have Andreas Pereira from Fulham as a cheap enabler. He is a great budget 5th midfielder for your FPL team, priced at only £4.6m. You are getting the creative engine in the Fulham attack (6A this season) at that price which can be pretty rewarding. Chelsea has Mount/Sterling as midfield options. Going for a combination of Mount + Pereira can cover the double gameweek for both teams very nicely.
Among forwards, Mitrovic is the safest player to consider. He is already transferred in by 300,000+ managers this gameweek, and that number will only rise further. If you are playing safe, only having Mitrovic is excellent. If you want to go haul chasing and are okay with taking a bit of risk, then a double-up with Havertz is the way to go.
Overall, the safer play is to cover off Chelsea and Fulham with at least three combined players from both teams. You can go for one player from the Chelsea defence, Pereira and Mitrovic. If you want to go slightly aggressive, then Mount and Havertz are additional options in attack.
Remember to avoid getting stuck with just the double gameweek fixtures in GW19 and plan slightly long-term. Make sure you have a plan for the players you bring in this week. Making additional transfers and taking multiple hits immediately after GW19 is not ideal and can easily lead to you losing some important FPL points.
That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for Gameweek 19, and I will see you next week.
