Another GW is upon us and its time for the preview. With one-third of the season done, teams are beginning to take shape. The busiest time of the year is here with teams playing once every three days. Let’s see how the teams stack up in GW14 Premier League Preview..
Newcastle vs Manchester City
Having won the last GW match against a determined Chelsea side, City head into the game after a disappointing draw with Shakhtar Donetsk midweek in the CL. City would like to get one over one of the sides that beat them last season. City would well remember the last game at St. James Park, where they led after 1st min but then went on to lose the match. With 3 wins out of the last 4 games against the Magpies, the champions are expected to win again this weekend.
Toon side has mixed feelings at the moment with their team having won 2 and drawn 1 in their last 5 but still are at 14th position in the table. They were outplayed last weekend by the determined Villa side. Steve Bruce has managed to jeep the team above relegation zone but he will be looking forward to bring his team to the top half. Having Andy Carroll back will give them a huge boost. Some fairly easy fixtures coming up after this meeting with side but since its at James Park you never know. Steve Bruce very well knows City aren’t at their fluent best and his side has a chance to get something out of the game.
SCORE PREDICTION: 0-3
Chelsea vs West Ham
Last week’s loss to the champions have somewhat halted the high-flying blues under Frank Lampard. That loss has pushed them down to 5th place below Man City. They will be looking to make amends this weekend. With Pulisic coming into the fray and showing his worth along with Tammy Abraham, Chelsea’s future is great. Both have 3 goals each in the last 5 games in the PL. But with Tammy missing it will be interesting to see who leads the line. Qualification to the knockouts is all but confirmed for the blues, so they will be looking to do well in the Premier League. The last season’s game ended 2-0 with Hazard scoring both. They will require someone else to do it this time around.
West Ham have had a very poor start to the season and are only 3 pts above the drop zone. 4 losses in the last 5 has West Ham struggling to get points. They have conceded 3 in all their previous 3 games and the defence is struggling to get a good run out. They will need a nearly perfect game to get something from Chelsea. With Issa Diop missing out due to suspension, the Hammers have got an uphill task of containing the Blues this weekend.
SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0
Liverpool vs Brighton
The league leaders have had a fantastic start to the season. With 12 wins from 13 the Red half of Merseyside is flying high. But they haven’t been at their fluent best and have had to score late on in many games to clinch the game. Fabinho, having been ruled out for 4 weeks at least means someone has to take up the no.6 role. It will be interesting to see who. While Salah has gone cold this season, Mane is in red hot form having become the main man for the REDS again. Last season both the matches were close encounters with Salah scoring in both of them to earn Liverpool narrow wins. It should be a straight forward win for the REDS at their fortress Anfield.
Brighton had a good start to the season, but with 3 losses in the last five games they’ve dropped into 12th place on the table. Moupay having scored 4 goals this campaign has gone cold with none in the last 3. They need him to find the back of the net more often. With the Liverpool front three in good form the Brighton defence have to be well drilled to contain them. With difficult fixtures coming up, Brighton would like to get something from the game.
SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1
Tottenham vs Bournemouth
Jose was all smiles last weekend coming back into the Premier League and his team delivered even though West Ham almost made a last-ditch comeback. Mourinho feels rejuvenated, pumped up ready to win trophies again. His players are playing well again especially in that comeback win midweek in the Champions league. But he has to sort out his defence which has been letting in too many goals. Spurs demolished the Cherries last time around at Wembey but were beaten at the Vitality late on in stoppage time via a Nathan Ake goal albeit getting reduced to 9 men with Son and Foyth being sent off half way into the game. The rejuvenated Spurs side looks set to pull this off leaving Jose with a wide grin again.
Bournemouth are just below Spurs in the table in 11th place. Having lost their previous two they will be looking to bounce back and get some points. Both the Wilsons are in prime form this season with 9 goals and 3 assists between them. Josh King has been side-lined with a hamstring injury. It should be an entertaining watch and Bournemouth will be hoping to get something from this.
SCORE PREDICTION: 3-0
Norwich vs Arsenal
Emery has got the sack finally after their loss at home to Eintracht with Freddie Ljungberg being in charge for the game against the Canaries. The Gunners are 8th in the table with no wins in the last 5 games and just managed to get a draw last time around. It will be interesting to see how the players react to their manager getting the sack.
The Canaries on the other hand have languished in the drop zone since the start of the season but the win last weekend would give them much needed confidence. Teemu Pukki has to start finding his early season form with no goals in his last 8 its worrying times at Carrow Road. With the Gunners in turmoil Norwich will be looking to get valuable points this weekend.
SCORE PREDICTION: 0-2
Leicester vs Everton
The foxes are flying high with Vardy banging in goals left, right and centre. He seems impossible to stop at the moment. With 12 goals he is way above anybody else. The team is playing the Brendan Rodgers way exactly how he implemented his system at Liverpool but the only difference is in the defence where they are more solid than Liverpool were under him. With Everton having won last time around King Power Leicester would like to get back at them this time.
All is gloomy over at the Goodison. They languish at 16th just 4 points above the drop zone. Surprisingly Marco Silva hasn’t got the sack yet but maybe this could be his last game if he doesn’t get anything from it. He has to get everything spot on this weekend to stay in charge. It will be an entertaining watch.
SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1
Manchester United vs Aston Villa
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reign as the United boss has been a roller coaster ride with wins and losses and no consistency. He represents the club and shows his loyalty but is he the man for the longer term. Except Ed Woodward no one thinks so. Solely he can’t bear the blame since he doesn’t have the players to challenge a top side. Yet he has his team at 9th place in the table looking to improve further. He needs to get some consistency in the results and has got a stern test in Aston Villa this weekend. Last weekend having come from behind to lead and then throw it away to get the draw late on hurt them but the midweek loss to Astana in the Europa league has damaged them even more. OGS will be looking to set his defence right even though the purchases of Maguire and Wan Bissaka has done very little to improve it. United definitely needs a good result.
Villa being near the drop zone would gain some confidence with the win last time around. Even though the results have been blowing hot and cold at Villa Park they have good times ahead with Dean Smith at the helm. The return of Jack Grealish provides them much needed boost. With fixtures against Chelsea and Leicester to follow after this Villa will be looking to get the win against United side that is low on confidence.
SCORE PREDICTION: 2-2
