FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

The long wait is finally over. The first international break of the season always feels like a test of patience — the fantasy world grinds to a halt, timelines go quiet, and managers are left refreshing injury news instead of plotting double-hauls. But those dull days are behind us now, and the Premier League circus is back in town.

And what a break it was off the pitch. Nottingham Forest pulled the trigger on Nuno Espírito Santo, adding another early-season casualty to the managerial carousel. Over in Turkey, two familiar faces for Manchester United fans — José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær — both found themselves out of a job within hours of each other. Injury news wasn’t kind either: Arsenal confirmed William Saliba will be sidelined after an ankle twist, and FPL managers are now anxiously awaiting Oliver Glasner’s update on Ismaïla Sarr after reports of a hamstring tear.

So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL GW4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) – MID, Liverpool – 16.5% TSB

FPL GW4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Gakpo

Gakpo has started the season strongly, playing every minute of Liverpool’s first three league games. In that time he has already registered a goal and two assists, underlining both his reliability for minutes and his direct attacking threat. What makes him stand out further is his creative contribution, averaging close to two key passes per game, which shows he isn’t just reliant on finishing chances but also brings teammates into play.

This combination of security in the XI, steady returns, and creativity makes him an attractive FPL asset at his price point. With Liverpool set to face promoted side Burnley this Gameweek, the fixture presents a prime opportunity for Gakpo to extend his run of contributions, making him one of the strongest midfield buys heading into the round.

Guglielmo Vicario (£5.0m) – GKP, Spurs – 8.6% TSB

FPL GW4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Vicario

While many FPL managers are chasing Spurs’ attacking assets, Guglielmo Vicario quietly emerges as a priceless differential—leading his Spurs teammates in total points, bonus points, and BPS. His performances have been quietly stellar, underpinned by elite metrics: he boasts the highest saves and highest FPL points as a GKP in the Premier League this season, ensuring his reliability between the sticks.

Vicario Stats this season(Rank among GKs):

  • Saves made- 13 (1st)
  • Bonus Points – 4 (1st)
  • BPS Score- 89 (1st)
  • FPL Points- 21 (1st)

What’s more, three of Spurs’ next four fixtures rank as an accessible FDR 2, offering prime opportunities for clean sheets. And historically, when Frank was managing Brentford, his goalkeepers were well-known FPL points magnets. With Tottenham bolstered during the summer, their attacking assets bring minutes-risk, but Vicario stands tall—as a safer, high-floor route to Spurs-based points.

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Hugo Ekitiké (£8.7m) – FWD, Liverpool – 29.7% TSB

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Ekitike

Ekitiké is the 3rd most transferred out forward this week. But are managers being too judgmental?

Ekitiké has been quietly effective for Liverpool early on—bagging 3 goals in his first 4 games this season. His seamless transition into Liverpool’s setup has now been capped off with a first senior call-up for France, underlining the confidence he’s carrying into the season. Adding to the optimism, Liverpool face newly promoted Burnley this week—a side that has conceded the second-highest number of goals in the league so far, which could offer Ekitiké another chance to deliver.

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak—Liverpool’s marquee £125 million signing—is not yet available as a regular starter. He returned from international duty with limited minutes and is being cautiously managed due to match fitness concerns, with Sweden’s boss calling it too risky to use him (with only three training sessions under his belt) and leaving him mostly benched during World Cup qualifiers. With Isak’s match sharpness still a question mark and Liverpool managing game time carefully, Ekitiké remains a reliable route into Liverpool attack. His FPL value is safe as a hold—solid form, while Isak bed in.

Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 17.6% TSB

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Watkins

Watkins is currently the second most transferred-out forward this week, with three consecutive blanks testing the patience of FPL managers. Yet, it’s worth remembering his explosive preseason—5 goals and 1 assist—which showed how sharp he can be when given the right fixtures. Writing him off after just a few quiet weeks might be a little too hasty.

Watkins Stats so far(Rank among Forwards):

  • Shots- 8 (Joint 2nd)
  • Shots inside the box- 8 (Joint 2nd)
  • Non Penalty xG- 1.13 (5th)

The upcoming run makes his case even stronger: Everton, Sunderland, Fulham, and Burnley in the next four Gameweeks is as good as it gets on paper. Add to that the fact Watkins only logged 24 minutes during the international break, meaning he returns fresh and fully fit. The fixtures, freshness, and proven quality suggest holding onto Watkins could pay off handsomely rather than joining the early sellers.

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

Cole Palmer (£10.4m) – MID, Chelsea – 22.1% TSB

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Palmer

Cole Palmer’s regression this season has sparked widespread exodus from FPL squads—and the reasons are piling up. A groin issue rattled his start to the season, resulting in him dropping out of the GW2 lineup despite being in the squad and raising alarm with a red flag and uncertain return date. His manager, Enzo Maresca, later even mentioned the drop in form is largely mental rather than technical—a delicate situation for any fantasy asset. Chelsea’s immediate schedule does him no favours either. They rank bottom in FDR for the next five fixtures (GW4–8), and Palmer’s own form has been worrying.

Since January, Palmer has managed just 2 goals and no assists in his last 14 matches, a stark contrast to his breakout first season. Despite laying on chances—he’s Europe’s most creative player without an assist over a two-month spell—the lack of end product seriously questions his reliability in FPL. On top of it, concerns over his current form dampen what was once a fiery appeal. Ownership has already nosedived from 50% to around 22%, and he’s seen a drop in price, signaling that fantasy managers are voting with their wallets.

Selling Palmer now not only cuts losses on a fading asset but also frees up around £10.5m, offering a pathway to reinvest in in-form midfielders or forwards who are currently delivering on the pitch. With fitness doubts and little to show for his involvement, he’s a financial and performance risk that’s more than fair to offload.

William Saliba (£6.1m) – DEF, Arsenal – 15.7% TSB

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Saliba

William Saliba is set to miss 3–4 weeks following an ankle injury sustained during the warm-up before Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool, ruling him out of several key fixtures. His absence has a ripple effect—Arsenal concedes just 0.8 goals per game when Saliba plays, compared to 1.7 without him, and their win rate drops significantly too. This stat alone makes Arsenal’s defense a risky proposition in FPL over the next few weeks—a clear no-buy zone for now.

But coming back to Saliba himself, the problem is sharper. This absence means he will miss upcoming high-stakes games, including Premier League matches against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, and Newcastle, as well as Arsenal’s early Champions League fixtures. With no return before late September and Arsenal facing a tricky run of games in his absence, benching him means locking up valuable funds in a non-playing premium defender. For FPL managers, that’s an inefficient use of budget, especially when there are in-form and fully fit alternatives available. As tough as it sounds, Saliba’s injury makes him a clear-cut sell.
