Midfielders are the heartbeat of any Fantasy Premier League squad. They often provide the perfect blend of goals, assists, and bonus points, while also benefiting from the clean sheet points that forwards miss out on. With the introduction of the new Defensive Contributions Bonus (CBITR), the value of certain midfielders, especially those with high defensive work rates, has also increased significantly.
Last season’s FPL points table was a testament to the dominance of midfielders: Mohamed Salah, Bryan Mbeumo, and Cole Palmer occupied the top three spots overall. As we head into the 2025/26 campaign, identifying value at each price point will be crucial to building a balanced squad. Let’s break down the midfield market, price tier by price tier, and analyse the best options for each bracket.
This is third part of the Price Point Series. In case you have missed it, Checkout the first 2 parts of the price point series:

FPL Midfielders to Target at Every Price Point for 2025/26 Season:
£4.5m – £5.0m FPL Midfielders

Lewis Miley – Newcastle (£4.5m)
Lewis Miley stands out as one of the most promising picks in the bargain bin. While his 2024/25 involvement was limited to one start (in which he scored) and 13 cameo appearances, he has valuable top-flight experience from 2023/24, when he managed a goal and three assists in 17 matches. With Sean Longstaff gone and Joe Willock’s future doubtful, Miley’s route to regular minutes looks much clearer. Eddie Howe has described him as “pivotal to our future,” and though he may not be nailed from Gameweek 1, he is likely to get consistent bench minutes and the odd start, especially with Newcastle juggling European commitments.

Aaron Ramsey – Burnley (£4.5m)
Aaron Ramsey offers high-upside potential if he can earn a starting role. The winger was prolific in the Championship two seasons ago with eight goals and four assists before a serious knee injury ruled him out for over a year. Now fully fit, Ramsey has featured in pre-season and possesses the direct attacking style rarely seen at this price point. He may begin the season as an impact sub but could force his way into the XI, making him a watchlist favourite for early bandwagon potential.
Romain Faivre – Bournemouth (£4.5m)
Romain Faivre brings a touch of Ligue 1 class to Bournemouth, having scored three goals and assisted twice for Brest last season. He has the highest npxG/90 (0.18) and the second highest xA/90 (0.19) among this group. Comfortable both centrally and out wide, Faivre has had minutes in pre-season and could be a creative option off the bench if he stays at Bournemouth. While he’s not yet nailed, his technical quality means he’s one to monitor closely should opportunities arise.

Justin Devenny – Crystal Palace (£4.5m)
A steady presence rather than a high-ceiling pick, Justin Devenny made 23 appearances last season, starting four. His deeper midfield role limits attacking potential, but he could provide reliable minutes if Palace rotate or injuries strike. Having played a full 90 in a recent friendly, Devenny should again be a useful squad player for the Eagles.
Carlos Baleba – Brighton (£5.0m)

Carlos Baleba is arguably the most CBITR-friendly pick at this bracket – 12.76 CBITR/90 last season. His defensive metrics were outstanding last season: 192 recoveries, regular tackles and interceptions, and extra points potential in nearly half of his starts. Add three goals to that and you have a £5.0m midfielder who can steadily tick along even without attacking returns. Linked with a move to Manchester United, his appeal could rise further if his role changes.
Do Note: Baleba has missed the last four friendlies due to injury

Ryan Christie – Bournemouth (£5.0m)
Before his injury in Gameweek 30, Ryan Christie was delivering both attacking and defensive returns, with two goals, three assists, and league-leading CBITR numbers per 90 among £5.0m midfielders (13.96 per 90). If fit for Gameweek 1, he’s a fantastic value pick, with Bournemouth enjoying a favourable early schedule after facing Liverpool on the opening weekend.
Note: Christie has an injury and hasn’t featured in pre-season games so far.
Enzo Le Fée – Sunderland (£5.0m)

Enzo Le Fée is Sunderland’s chief set-piece taker and a guaranteed starter. Across the past four seasons, he’s produced six goals and 13 assists, and his creative duties should keep him involved in attacking returns. He has the highest xA/90 (0.21) among the players in this group. With Sunderland’s early fixtures looking very appealing, he’s a sleeper pick at this price.

£5.5m – £6.0m FPL Midfielders

Moises Caicedo – Chelsea (£5.5m)

The poster boy for the CBITR era, Moises Caicedo would have gained an extra 42 points last season from defensive contributions alone – more than any midfielder in the league. Add his 38-game reliability (3351 minutes – highest among the midfielders in this group), a goal, and four assists, and you have a safe, steady FPL option. He’s unlikely to explode with hauls, but as a set-and-forget enabler, he’s close to perfect.
Top Midfielders for Defensive Contributions(CBITR) last season:

Elliot Anderson – Nottingham Forest (£5.5m)

Anderson offers a rare blend of defensive reliability and attacking involvement, with two goals, six assists, and a CBITR of 13.7 per 90 last season. Now on more set-pieces with Anthony Elanga gone, he’s a nailed starter with decent fixtures—a high-floor budget choice.

Youri Tielemans – Aston Villa (£6.0m)
Tielemans remains one of the Premier League’s most dependable midfielders. Three goals, seven assists, and near-ever-present minutes make him a secure mid-priced option. Villa’s attacking style and possible penalty duties further boost his appeal.
Tijjani Reijnders – Manchester City (£5.5m)

A summer arrival from AC Milan, Reijnders brings double-digit goal threat and creative spark. The challenge is minutes under Pep Guardiola, but early signs from the Club World Cup suggest he may be more than a rotation piece. If he starts regularly, he’s a bargain. Manchester City have the highest expected goals over the first 6 GWs as well.
Jhon Arias – Wolves (£5.5m)

Colombian playmaker Arias arrives as Wolves’ creative hub, boasting huge numbers in Brazil and starring at the Club World Cup. He had an xA/90 of 0.24 last season along with a CBITR/90 of 8.34. Expected to start, he could be a lively source of assists, though a tricky early fixture run suggests a watch-and-wait approach. Wolves are the only side to play all 3 promoted sides in the first 9 GWs.
Dwight McNeil – Everton (£6.0m)

McNeil’s points per start were the best among £6.0m midfielders last season. Creative consistency and a favourable opening run make him a solid value pick for those seeking stability with the odd big return. He had an xA/90 of 0.34 – highest among this group.

£6.5m – £7.0m FPL Midfielders

Mohammed Kudus – Spurs (£6.5m)

A versatile attacker with unlucky finishing numbers last season, Kudus could thrive in a more attacking Spurs setup. Spurs’ early fixtures are strong – Burnley (H), Bournemouth (H), West Ham (H), Wolves (H) and Leeds (A), making him an appealing early-season punt. Solanke has not featured in any of the friendlies so far (including the one against Munich last night), Son is off the LA and Maddison is injured so Kudus could be the Spurs attacker in your side.
Iliman Ndiaye – Everton (£6.5m)

Everton’s talisman, penalty taker, and CBITR contributor, Ndiaye offers multiple scoring routes. Favourable fixtures and guaranteed minutes make him a safer mid-priced choice. He had a CBITR of 10.16 per 90 last year – among the highest in this group.
Morgan Rogers – Aston Villa (£7.0m)

Last year’s budget hero now steps into a higher price bracket, but his attacking role and creative output in a high-scoring Villa team make him a reliable starter with steady returns. Rogers had 8 goals and 11 assists last season, priced at just 5m. He had an npxG+xA/90 of 0.42 last season. He recently suffered an injury in a friendly however as per latest reports it isn’t very serious.

£7.5m – £8.0m FPL Midfielders

Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace (£7.5m)

Eze’s blistering end to last season cemented his status as Palace’s talisman. He had 8 goals and 8 assists last season. On set pieces and penalties, he’s both explosive and reliable, though a potential transfer to Arsenal could change his role. He had an npxG/90 of 0.31 – 2nd highest in this group. The opening 3 games look tricky though, with all 3 sides in the top 10 for fewest goals conceded last season. GW4 and GW5 look better though against Sunderland and West Ham.
Phil Foden – Manchester City (£8.0m)
A Club World Cup star (3 goals and 1 assist) and a creative force when fit, Foden’s price drop reflects last season’s struggles. He had just 20 starts last season however If he starts regularly, his ceiling in this City attack is massive.

Bryan Mbeumo & Matheus Cunha – Manchester United (£8.0m)

Both were lethal last season but face uncertainty in a United team that struggled. Without penalties and with tricky early fixtures, they may be worth monitoring rather than starting with. Cunha had the highest npxG+xA/90 though in this group at 0.57. With Sesko also joining the Manchester United attack now, it will definitely be a sight to watch with the new front 3 worth 200m.
Morgan Gibbs-White – Nottingham Forest (£7.5m)

A model of consistency, Gibbs-White has exceeded 140 points in three straight seasons. He almost moved to Tottenham during the break. On penalties (after Wood) and direct free-kicks along with strong fixtures, he’s a safe bet for steady returns. Forest’s attack hasn’t been great though in the pre season friendlies – just 1 goal across 6 games. Among the highest for CBITR/90 (7.28) in this group, however still much lower than the threshold.

£8.5m – £9.0m FPL Midfielders

Florian Wirtz – Liverpool (£8.5m)

A creative star in Germany, Wirtz joins Liverpool with incredible attacking numbers. If he starts regularly, he could rival Salah for value. He had 21 goals and 23 assists in 63 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen over the last two seasons. He should start as a 10 or even a false 9 (similar to the role played by Firmino a few years back). He has the highest xA/90 (0.27) among the trio at this price point, just slightly higher than Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United (£9.0m)

Bruno’s penalty duties, set-pieces, and CBITR potential make him a strong premium option. A nailed 90-minute player with high involvement in United’s attack and on penalties as well despite Mbeumo and Cunha coming in. However with the new front 3 up front, he could be confined to a deeper role which could limit his involvement. It will be good to wait and watch his performance before jumping on him. Anyway Manchester United’s early fixtures aren’t that great either with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City in the first 5.
Top Midfielders for Chances Created Last Season:

Omar Marmoush – Manchester City (£8.5m)
Reclassified as a midfielder but often playing forward, Marmoush’s role under Pep remains unclear. He had seven goals and one assist across 14 starts in 2024/25. He was mostly deployed up top at the FIFA Club World Cup, sharing minutes with Erling Haaland (£14.0m). Rotation risk is the main concern here. He did have the highest npxG/90 among this trio last year (0.4)

£10.0m+ FPL Midfielders

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£14.5m)

The undisputed king of FPL – 28 goals and 19 assists last season. He is rightly the most expensive player this year at 14.5m. Record-breaking points haul last season of 344, consistent captaincy returns, and a fixture history of early hauls make him almost essential. Salah is currently the most-owned player in FPL, found in over 57% of teams.
Cole Palmer – Chelsea (£10.5m)

Back-to-back 200+ point seasons, penalties, and a favourable fixture list make Palmer one of the best premium options outside of Salah. While his performance did drop over the 2nd half of last season, he was excellent in the Club World Cup. He had 2 goals and an assist in the final to make it a 3-0 win over PSG.
Bukayo Saka – Arsenal (£10.0m)
Elite creativity and output when fit, but potential loss of penalties (with Gyokeres coming in) and tough early fixtures mean he’s more of a wait-and-see for many managers.

Best FPL Midfielders by Price Point – Key Takeaways
The midfield market in FPL 2025/26 offers value across every price point. At £4.5m – £5.0m, Miley, Baleba, and Le Fée stand out as budget enablers. The £5.5m – £6.0m range is packed with CBITR monsters like Caicedo and Anderson, alongside creative talents like Tielemans and McNeil. For £6.5m – £7.0m, Rogers and Ndiaye look the safest bets, with Kudus the high-upside gamble. In the £7.5m – £8.0m bracket, Eze, Foden, and Gibbs-White provide the mix of consistency and explosiveness managers crave. The £8.5m – £9.0m range offers Bruno’s security, Wirtz’s potential, and Marmoush’s positional intrigue. Finally, at £10.0m+, Salah remains the gold standard, with Palmer and Saka close behind.
My top picks for each bucket:
- 4.5-5m: Baleba
- 5.5-6m: Anderson
- 6.5-7m: Rogers
- 7.5-8m: Eze
- 8.5-9m: Wirtz
- 10m+: Salah
Building a successful midfield this season will be about finding the right balance between CBITR-friendly high-floor players and explosive attackers who can deliver match-winning hauls. With so many viable choices, the 2025/26 campaign promises to be one of the most tactically intriguing yet for FPL managers.
