FPL GW32 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

Saka injury status – Possible replacements(if needed)

After returning from hamstring surgery a fortnight ago, Saka was substituted off during the mid-week Champions League fixture due to a knock from a hard tackle on his ankle. Being substituted in a Champions League quarter-final suggests he was in a decent amount of pain and discomfort.

Arteta on Saka during Friday’s press conference:

Arteta on injuries: “Declan and Bukayo are both fit. It was a matter of two kicks. Riccy(Calafiori) is progressing really well, but giving a timeline is difficult. He is in a good place.”

With the Gameweek 32 fixture on the weekend essentially a dead rubber for Arsenal’s Premier League hopes, expect Saka to be rested in preparation for the return Champions League fixture in Madrid.

Depending on your chip strategy, you could be looking for a short-term punt before wildcard or a midfielder to see you out until the end of the season.

Jacob Murphy is a great choice of replacement. His brace against Leicester last week showed that he is in the form of his Newcastle career. With Anthony Gordon yet to return from injury, he has been the perfect partner to Isak up front in recent weeks. A Double Gameweek this week as well as not blanking in Gameweek 34 makes him an easy hold.

Most attacking returns in FPL since Murphy became a regular starter(GW14):

  • Salah- 26
  • Isak- 19
  • Murphy- 14
  • Gibbs White- 14
  • Mbeumo- 13
  • Haaland- 12

For those looking for a short-term punt, Donyell Malen of Aston Villa has 2 goals to his name and great underlying stats in his short Villa career since being transferred in the winter. He is averaging 2+ shots per match and is likely to start after being ineligible for their Champions League fixture. He should also get enough minutes in Double Gameweek 33 to be a solid punt and differential.

Players To Target For GW32 Bench Boost

Crystal Palace & Newcastle are the two teams with a double gameweek which should be stacked in your squad if you plan to bench boost in Gameweek 32.

Crystal Palace have the tougher set of fixtures with away days at Manchester City & Newcastle. Although the likelihood of clean sheets are reasonably low, there is plenty of potential upside for attacking returns. For this reason, the only defender I would ideally want would be Daniel Munoz. His Right Wing Back role sees him making runs into the box basically as a right winger. He has had a knack for goals and assists throughout his career and will enjoy some of the space he is offered in these fixtures.

From an attacking perspective, Eze & Mateta are my favourite two picks. Not only do these two share penalty duties, Eze takes a variety of free kicks and runs the midfield for palace when he is on form. Both are in solid form across their recent cup game against Fulham and their last league game against Brighton. They should see some returns somewhere across the two fixtures.

Mateta Stats since GW20: (Rank among Forwards)

  • Matches- 10
  • Shots- 21
  • Big Chances- 11 (3rd)
  • xG- 6.22 (2nd)
  • Goals- 9 (1st)
  • xGI- 7.5 (2nd)
  • Goal Involvements- 10 (1st)
  • Bonus Points- 15 (1st)
  • FPL Points- 73 (1st)

Newcastle have the easier set of fixtures, two home matches against Manchester United & Crystal Palace.

Similarly to Palace, ideally, you want to double up on attackers and only have a maximum of one defensive asset for Gameweek 32. Isak & Murphy are the clear options with Gordon still ruled out through injury and their recent form being top notch.

From the defensive aspect, your best bets would be Fabian Schar or Dan Burn. These two offer reliability of starts combined with enough attacking potential to give yourself a big surge of points if the stars align correctly.

Despite his assist on the weekend, Livramento has poor underlying attacking data across the season. Trippier has also been less attacking than in previous seasons and has the largest risk of rotation due to his age.

Aston Villa are also a good shout for Gameweek 32 transfers as they face a relegated Southampton side before a Gameweek 33 Double Gameweek of Newcastle (H) & Manchester City (A). Be mindful of rotation as the weekend will come between their European tie fixtures against PSG.

Best Time To Wildcard

If you are still holding on to your wildcard chip, you may be wondering what the best time to use it will be from now until the end of the season.

If you are in the same position as me and have used your free hit chip, Gameweek 34 or 35 will be a great time to wildcard. Although you will need to take a couple blank gameweeks and a double Gameweek into account, it should be manageable due to the small number of teams involved in these doubles and blanks. Your current team and how many people blank in Gameweek 34 will decide if you need to wildcard then or preferably you can wait until Gameweek 35 which will allow you to ignore the Gameweek 34 blank while wildcard planning.

If you still have your free hit chip, you could wildcard now to set yourself up for Gameweek 32 & 33 double Gameweek fixtures and use your free hit chip in Gameweek 34 to avoid these blank fixtures. You would then want to save as many free transfers as you can for the Gameweek 35-36 period to allow you to navigate these weeks without points hits.

GW32 Key Fixture Analysis

Southampton v Aston Villa:

Southampton is still one of the best teams to target from an attacking and defensive fixture perspective. They have been mathematically relegated from the Premier League, so there is less chance of any inspirational comebacks in their matches due to a lack of motivation.

Aston Villa lost 3-1 to PSG this week in Paris, and their second fixture will occur next midweek. There are obvious concerns regarding minutes and rotation for the Aston Villa players in their preparation for their second leg fixture.

Morgan Rogers is on many manager’s mind as they wonder if they should have him in their starting XI or include him in their bench boost lineup.

There is definitely a chance that Rogers is rested but he has started just about every game this season when fit and the 3-1 scoreline might sway Emery to make sure their premier league fixture is a win. Villa is two points out of the Champions League places and their poor goal difference means they have some extra work to do on that side. I think Villa will rotate a couple players who need a rest but don’t expect wholesale rotation. Hoping for a sub and potentially an early substitution for Rogers.

Newcastle v Manchester United:

Newcastle host Manchester United in the first leg of their Double Gameweek 32 fixtures. Similarly to Aston Villa, Newcastle are fighting for Champions League qualification places and are currently inside the Top 5 by 1 point with Manchester City & Aston Villa hot on their tail.

Expect Newcastle’s midfield to boss Man United and take full control of the tie.

With Manchester United focusing on their two Europa League fixtures, expect some rotation while Newcastle go full throttle to secure lucrative Champions League qualification. A triple up of Newcastle including defence and attack is a great choice this week and an Isak triple captaincy is one of the best choices remaining for the 24/25 season.
