FPL GW30 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

FPL GW30 Scout Picks Goalkeeper

Raya (5.5m) starts between the sticks for the Scout team in FPL 30. Arsenal’s excellent defense record makes him an obvious choice in goal this week, with the Gunner’s having conceded the fewest goals in the division (24). They also have the best underlying defensive numbers, having conceded just 27.01xGA across their 29 games so far this campaign.

3 clean sheets in his last 5 games, Raya also has form on his side, with Arsenal recovering well from their recent surprise loss against West Ham in GW26. The Gunners face Fulham in GW30 and Everton in GW31, two sides who are in the bottom half of the table for both goals scored and xG. Fulham, Arsenal’s opponents this GW, have struggled at times this season to put the ball in the back of the net, and are riding high in the table due to their defensive solidity as opposed to their attacking prowess.

Raya Arsenal

The game between the two earlier this season, which took place at Craven Cottage, ended 1-1 – though the scoreline does not tell the full story. Arsenal created over 2xG in that game compared to just 0.15xG for Fulham, who scored with their one and only chance of the game (they had just 2 shots). Considering Arsenal’s recent defensive record, their season-wide underlying numbers and the fact they’re at home – Raya is a great choice for GW30.

Munoz (5.1m), Kerkez (5.2m) and Gvardiol (6.0m) make up our backline…

Crystal Palace effortlessly dispatched Fulham in the FA Cup last weekend, winning 3-0 on the day against their London rivals. Munoz did not contribute an attacking return in that game, but did aid his side defensively when called upon. In his last 6 Premier League games, Munoz has provided 4 attacking returns and 3 clean sheets – picking up 6.5 points per match in that 6-game stretch.

Munoz Palace

Palace have gone under the radar defensively this season, and have actually conceded fewer goals than Nottingham Forest in the league this season. They sit behind only Liverpool, Arsenal, and Forest when it comes to clean sheets as well, with the Eagles sat in joint 4th place (9 CS) for that metric. Palace are in elite form, having won 8 of their last 9 games in all competitions, losing only 2 league games since the turn of the year (9 games), It’s imperative that those on a WC target their assets. The Eagles face Southampton in FPL GW30, making their players all the more appealing…

City face Leicester in FPL GW30, a side who are bottom of the league for xG and second bottom for goals scored. The Foxes have failed to score in each of their last 6 Premier League games, and looking further bac,k are goalless in 8/9 of their last league matches. In that stretch of 6 matches, they have managed to accrue more than 0.75xG in just 1 of those matches, creating less than 4 out of 6. Fundamentally, they are not a good attacking side.

Gvardiol City

City on the other hand, have managed 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in their last 5 fixtures, with their defeats coming against Liverpool and Forest. They’ve put that tricky run of fixtures behind them and will now be looking forwards to their kinder run of games which stretches from GW30 all the way to the end of the season – first stop Leicester at home in GW30!

Completing the defense is Bournemouth’s Kerkez. The Hungarian defender has provided an assist in each of his last 3 Premier League matches, and has been one of the shining lights in the Cherries’ recent slump in form. If his recent attacking form is not enough to convince you, then the fixture surely will be as Bournemouth face Ipswich at home in FPL GW30

Kerkez Bournemouth FPL

Ipswich are joint 16th for goals scored away from home this season, and are 18th for goals scored overall – making them a team to target from a defensive perspective. Bournemouth, on the other hand, are joint 5th for goals conceded, having conceded just 1 more than Nottingham Forest in the league. Their poor run of form cannot continue forever, and a home fixture against one of the promoted teams is the perfect chance to re-ignite their Champions League charge!

FPL GW30 Scout Picks – Midfielders

FPL GW30 Scout Picks Midfielders

Our midfield consists of a group of familiar faces this week, with Salah (13.7m), Sarr (5.6m), Kluivert (6.3m) and Murphy (5.0m) all starting for the AllAboutFPL GW30 Scout Picks team!

Let’s start with Mr inevitable – Mo Salah. Salah’s omission from last week’s team was only due to Liverpool’s blank GW – he is an essential FPL asset going into the final stretch of Premier League games. Expect the Reds to put their recent struggles behind them and go full throttle in the league now that they are out of all other competitions. Salah is likely to continue starting for Liverpool until they wrap up the league, and until his position in the team comes under threat – he’s a must-have!

Salah Liverpool FPL

Last time we selected a Palace midfield we suggested that it was a toss-up between Eze and Sarr, and we went for the former – Eze blanked and Sarr scored 11 points, so now that we’ve gone for Sarr, expect Eze to haul! Jokes aside, both players are great FPL picks, but for us, Sarr is the better option, let me explain why…

Crystal Palace FPL assets

For one, his underlying numbers are far better – 0.43xG v 0.29xG and 0.33xA v 0.26xA – but beyond that, he’s in great form. Sarr has been underperforming his underlying numbers all season, and now that he’s beginning to pick up some form, it’s the perfect time to get him in and (hopefully) cash in on those excellent underlying numbers. Furthermore, Palace face Southampton in FPL GW30, so any of their assets are awesome options this GW, but for us, due to his form and underlying numbers, Sarr is the best of the bunch.

Another side who are likely in high spirits following their recent cup success is Newcastle United, who celebrated their Cup victory over Liverpool in style over the weekend, attracting a crowd of over 350,000 Geordies! Their players will be on cloud-9 following the win and the parade, so expect them to perform this mid-week when they come up against Brentford, especially considering the match will be played at home…

Murphy Newcastle United

Murphy is often the unsung hero of Newcastle, both putting in the hard yards defensively and contributing in attack, while Gordon on the other wing, often attracts the attention and praise of the fans, Murphy also deserves a lot of credit. Murphy’s 0.55xGI/90 is decent, especially considering his price, and while he has blanked in his last two Premier League matches, he did provide the assist for Isak’s winning goal in the Carabao Cup final, so his form is not a concern. Brentford are in decent form themselves, but with the crowd behind them and their spirits high, expect Newcastle to turn up big time on Wednesday night!

Finally, we have Kluivert. The fifth-highest scoring midfielder retains his place in the team, despite blanking in FPL GW29. While Kluivert’s form has dipped in recent weeks, a dip which has coincided with Bournemouth’s lull in form, he remains a great FPL pick due to his price and output. Furthermore, as highlighted in the ‘defenders’ section, the Cherries are coming up against Ipswich in FPL GW30, which offers them the perfect opportunity to bounce back and return to winning ways!

Kluivert Bournemouth

His 12 goals and 6 assists in the league so far this season is outstanding – he is one of the key factors for Bournemouth’s success this season. Ipswich have conceded the 3rd most goals in the league so far this season and have the second worst xGA, only behind Southampton in that metric. Kluivert is a brilliant pick this week, don’t let his (and Bournemouth’s) form put you off!

FPL GW30 Scout Picks – Forwards

FPL GW30 Scout Picks Forwards

Marmoush (7.3m), Isak (9.3m), and Mateta (7.5m) make up our forward line for FPL GW30!

With Haaland injured and subbed off during City’s FA Cup game against Bournemouth, Marmoush’s expected minutes are far higher than they would have been, and thus, he is our City attacking pick this week. Marmoush actually scored within minutes of coming on to replace the injured Haaland, reminding football fans and FPL managers alike of his attacking potential – if he’s nailed, he’s a great pick.

Haaland Injury FPL

I’ll point you once again in the direction of my Substack article, which breaks down Marmoush’s underlying numbers compared to other forwards in the league – he comes out pretty well in that piece, and since its publication has showed (when on the pitch) why he’s a great FPL pick. Minutes is the only concern with him, but if Haaland’s injury is as serious as it looks, then he will be nailed for FPL GW30, thus rendering him a very nice FPL option!

We had planned to captain Haaland in GW30, as the fixture against Leicester is too good to ignore – so as he is injured, and Marmoush is likely to start in his place, the Egyptian prince is our captain this week!

Isak was the hero against Liverpool in the cup, scoring the winning goal to take Newcastle to their first trophy in 70 years! As mentioned in Murphy’s section, the Magpies will be in high spirits and will be looking to build upon their cup victory with a big performance against Brentford in FPL GW30 in order to get them back into the top 4 race and to secure Champions League football…

Mateta Crystal Palace

While his injury in the FA Cup looked very concerning, Mateta was back on the pitch this weekend against Fulham. Palace’s fixture against Southampton makes owning at least one of their attackers essential going into FPL GW30, but we’ve gone one better, opting for the double up in order to make the most of Southampton’s defensive frailties.

Mateta’s 0.55xG/90 is great, and considering Palace’s recent form, he was a no-brainer for the FPL GW30 Scout Picks team when the news of his availability was made public. 9 Goal involvements in his last 8 Premier League matches is outrageous – he’s a great pick for this week and an interesting differential captaincy option!
