FPL GW29 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered
1. Should You use Free Hit in FPL GW29?

This should ideally have been a decision you made a few weeks ago at a minimum. But that’s okay, now is the next best timing.
If you can’t field 10 good assets without taking a hit, you should consider using the free hit. A good asset does not include those players who are unlikely to start or Ipswich/Southampton defenders. This is also based on the assumption that you still have your second wildcard up your sleeve.
One of the big positives on free hitting in Blank Gameweek 29 is that you are able to hold on to high performing assets from key teams such as Liverpool, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa without having to worry about them blanking this week.
All of these teams also have a great run of upcoming fixtures with Crystal Palace & Newcastle confirmed to have a Double Gameweek in Gameweek 32.
Crystal Palace have only lost two fixtures in 2025 while Newcastle have impressed in most fixtures even with some key players missing games.
The other positive is being able to have an optimal team for this week that includes some players who are not template and can help you climb the rankings.
I will touch on these optimal players in the next section.
Other Places to use Free Hit this season:
- DGW33- Double Gameweek
- BGW34- Blank Gameweek

2. Best GW29 Free Hit Picks
There are many valid options this week, whether you’re free hitting or transferring out blanking players for those who have a fixture in Gameweek 29.
Haaland is a great choice as you will have an abundance from available funds by not having Salah or Palmer in your lineup. It is not the greatest fixture for him but his data and Manchester City’s form has been on an upswing.

Evanilson is a great pick after recently returning from injury. He has scored in his last two fixtures (one in the league, one in the cup fixture) and Brentford concede centrally to strikers more often than any other position.
Wood, Milenkovic & Sels are all solid picks as their strong defensive style of play combined with devastating counter attacks should have Ipswich’s measure.
Ait Nouri is likely the only Wolves player I will consider. Even though they aren’t amazing defensively, they have been better in recent weeks and Ait Nouri is usually involved on the attacking end also.

Mazraoui is a potential pick that could pay off handsomely.
Gvardiol, Strand Larsen & Beto are three picks which I don’t expect to perform in Gameweek 29.
Gvardiol has seen a more limited attacking role in recent times while City manage to concede in almost every fixture.
Strand Larsen has a great fixture but without Cunha, the Wolves team as a whole struggles to create and Strand Larsen feels this deficiency the most.
Beto has scored goals in recent weeks but West Ham have now solidified their defence under new manager Graham Potter. Everton are not the most prolific scoring team and expect them to struggle against a defensive West Ham setup.

3. Cole Palmer’s Struggles

Cole Palmer has not hit the heights this season that we all expected after his breakout 23/24 campaign.
Although he has 14 Goals & 6 Assists for the season, he has blanked in 6 of his last 7 fixtures with an away fixture at Arsenal coming up.

Palmer’s form has matched Chelsea’s downturn in form with more losses than wins in their recent run. Nic Jackson’s hold up play and runs behind the defensive line are sorely missed.
Jackson could potentially return in GW30 and Chelsea face Tottenham, Brentford and Ipswich who are the teams more susceptible to defensive errors and conceding goals.
Although his recent performances have disappointed, bank on the return of Nic Jackson and a good three fixture run for Palmer from GW30 and then re-assess your options.

4. GW29 Key Fixture Analysis
Manchester City v Brighton: This fixture is a key fixture as Erling Haaland will be a key component of most free hit teams while those not on free hit are unlikely to have him in their lineup currently.
Haaland has 13 goals contributions in his last 13 fixtures in all competitions. His underlying data isn’t at the heights it once was but he has posted good data and taking enough shots to be a legitimate FPL option again.
Brighton have seen an improvement in their form recently with six consecutive wins after their 7-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 24. They have kept 2 clean sheets and conceded a single goal in the other four fixtures with solid underlying data across this run.
It will be a tough fixture for Manchester City but I expect their forwards to score at least a goal or two. Defensively, expect City to concede.

Leicester v Manchester United: There are a lot of potential points on offer in this fixture if you can trust Manchester United to put on a solid performance against likely relegation candidates Leicester.
Leicester have not scored in 7 of their last 8 Premier League fixtures and their underlying attacking data shows that it is not due to bad luck. It is dire reading. They actually havn’t scored in their last 6 home fixtures and counting either.
Manchester United are more trustworthy on the attacking end rather than the defensive end so Bruno Fernandes is a great pick this week. Their recent defensive data hasn’t been great at all but has not been the worst in the league by any stretch. Many of their goals have been conceded due to errors or lapses in concentration.

United have only kept 1 clean sheet in their last 15 fixtures so a clean sheet is far from guaranteed, even against the worst attacking team in the competition currently.
