Welcome to our FPL GW25 Scout Picks blog! What’s that? Another Double Gameweek? That’s right, both Liverpool and Villa double this week, making it back-to-back double GWs – what a treat! We had an awesome DGW24, scoring 113 points in total, beating the Official FPL Scout’s team by 6 points! That win takes us to 15-9 versus the Official FPL Scout…

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Two home fixtures in GW25… A Villa triple up was inevitable! While the Villains are fairly mid-table when it comes to GA so far this season (conceded 37), two home fixtures, one of which is against a newly promoted side, was too good an opportunity to ignore. What’s more, when looking at their underlying numbers, their defense isn’t as bad as it first seemed…
Villa are 7th for xGA, having conceded 36xGA in the 24 matches they’ve played so far this campaign. Clearly Emery’s system is not the issue, but rather the performance of his GK… Martinez (5.0m) is under performing his xGA by 1, which is not awful on the face of it, but is made worse by the fact that the Argentinian is one of only 3 ‘keepers have under-performed this season.

We’re not picking Villa for their great defensive record, or even form, but rather due to the intriguing and diverse points scoring on offer to Martinez in DGW25. In our GW24 Scout Picks team we went for Pickford in large part due to his DGW fixtures of Leicester (H) and Liverpool (H), as we felt there was a decent chance of a CS against a promoted side like Leicester, and a high probability of save points as Liverpool take lots of shots. This worked out well for us as Pickford returned 10 points across the two games – we’re looking to repeat the trick again in GW25!
Ipswich are 19th for Goals scored and 19th for xG in the league so far this season, highlighting their inability to create and score goals. They take very few shots and have created less than 1xG in 3 of their last 4 matches. They remain a team to target both defensively and offensively.

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Defenders

Our back three is made up of Kerkez (5.0m), Trent (7.4m) and Gabriel (6.3m) for FPL GW25!
Let’s start with Kerkez. Bournemouth have been outstanding this season, and are well in the race for European, if not Champions League, football. Kerkez has been integral to their success, providing defensive solidity as well as 2 goals and 3 assists. He’s the 6th highest scoring defender in the league, and is the 2nd cheapest defender in the top 8 highest points scorers. Kerkez’ 0.17xGI/90 is not league leading by any stretch, and it’s unlikely that he’ll get too many more attacking returns this season bearing in mind he’s currently over performing based on his underlying numbers. That being said…

This week Bournemouth face Southampton, and if there’s anything this season has taught us so far, it’s that FPL managers should prioritise targeting newly promoted sides whenever and wherever possible. Southampton have scored the fewest goals in the league, and while their xG suggests that they perhaps should’ve scored a few more, the reality is that they struggle to create, and that their forwards have difficulty finishing their chances.
Fundamentally, Kerkez is Bournemouth’s most attacking defender in open play and the Cherries have been on a phenomenal run in recent weeks (Liverpool result aside) – they play the worst attacking side in the league from a goal scoring perspective and will be looking to make up for the 3 points they dropped in GW24. Speaking of Liverpool…
Trent, despite the injury concerns, is Liverpool’s best defensive asset for GW25 – let me explain. While Fantasy football hub’s points prediction tool has TAA and Virgil tied on 8.4 predicted points for FPL GW25, Trent’s ceiling is far higher than his Captain’s. Trent has averaged 5.1 points per start in FPL this season, far superior to Virgil’s 3.9, and the Scouser bagged 22 points in his last 3 PL games, compared to Virgil’s 13.

Form and creativity are on his side – but what about minutes. Trent played 30 minutes against Everton in Liverpool’s second game of the DGW, so even if he is still battling with injury, he should have ample time to recover in time for the weekend. Liverpool have a DGW in GW25, so an LFC defender is a must – our choice is Alexander-Arnold.

Completing the backline is Arsenal’s Gabriel. With the news that Havertz is ‘out for the season’, Arteta will be relying on his backline to drag them through games now more than ever! Despite only managing one clean sheet in their last 6 matches, Arsenal’s defense remains one of the best in the league. In fact, in 4 of their last 6 games the Gunners conceded less than 1xG!
Arteta’s men face Leicester in FPL GW25, a side who have only won one of their last 10 matches, scoring just 6 goals in that 10 game run which lasted almost 2 months. Since the turn of the year the Foxes have scored just 3 goals across 6 games, winning once and losing 5. Arsenal will be returning from their warm weather training camp rejuvenated and well-rested, so a clean sheet is definitely on the cards!

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Midfielders

A fairly template midfield this week, with Salah (13.7m) and Palmer (11.2m) retaining their places, Rogers (5.6m) returning and Kluivert (5.9m) making his debut for the AAFPL Scout Picks team!
Salah has a DGW against two sides who are both in the bottom half of the table in terms of goals conceded, and have kept 7 clean sheets between them all season, three less than Liverpool have managed by themselves… Against Villa earlier this season Salah grabbed a goal and an assist, while against Wolves he bagged a solitary goal. While his goal and assist returns have slowed as of late – 2 consecutive blanks against Forest and Brentford – he’s still returning FPL points at a consistent rate. He’s essential, especially in a DGW where most FPL managers will be captaining him, and many will be considering a TC…

Palmer’s time as a nailed on starter for the AAFPL Scout picks team may soon be coming to an end, but he retains his place in the team this GW for a number of reasons… Since the turn of the year his underlying numbers have really dropped off, he’s now averaging just 0.29xG/90 and 0.22xA/90, compared to almost 1xGI/90 at the start of the season.
This drop has coincided with a Chelsea’s dip in form, with the Blues picking up just 2 wins in 6 games since the start of 2025. This is not a surprise, when we consider than Palmer has been involved in almost 50% of Chelsea’s goals so far this season. The reason we’ve decided to back the Englishman this week is Chelsea’s fixture in GW25 – with the Blues facing the Seagulls…

In the reverse fixture earlier this season Palmer managed to score 4 goals and racked up a huge points tally of 25. Furthermore, Brighton have been fairly open in recent weeks, and conceded 7 to Forest in GW24. While the Seagulls did beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA cup last weekend, Moresca put out largely a second string side. In that game, Palmer managed to accrue 0.59xG, and was a threat throughout. He keeps his spot this week, but one or two more blanks and we may have to reconsider.
The QEBE (quasi-essential-budget-enabler) is back! Morgan Rogers has had a stellar couple of weeks, having scored and assisted against Spurs as well as scoring a hatrick against Celtic! He is one of Villa’s most creative players, and is their most productive attacker behind only Watkins. His underlying numbers have remained steady all season, averaging 0.21xG/90 and 0.21xA90.

Villa have a DGW in FPL GW25, so a triple-up was obligatory and Rogers is the best Villa midfield asset. Doubling up on Villa defense is unlikely to bear much fruit seeing as they face Liverpool after Ipswich (though Digne is a great differential option due to how attacking he is!), so 1 DEF + 1 MID + 1 ATT was the obvious route. Rogers is a great cheap FPL pick most weeks, but the double GW means that he is truly quasi-essential…
Completing the midfield we have Bournemouth’s Kluivert! After scoring in back-to-back-to-back GWs, his scoring run was put to an end by Liverpool in GW24, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a great FPL option. This season is proving to be the most productive of Kluiverts career to date, with the dutch winger scoring 11 and assisting 4 across 19 appearances in the league so far this season.

His 0.52xG/90 and 0.18xA/90 make him one of Bournemouth’s most dangerous attacking players, ahead of the likes of Evanilson, Semenyo and Tavernier! Bournemouth face Southampton away in GW25, one of the worst teams defensively in the league – Bournemouth on the other hand have been in fantastic form, including one of their attackers in this team was a no-brainer.

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Forwards

Our forward line is made up of a collection of familiar, and very premium, faces!
Let’s start with Isak (9.5m). It may seem strange on paper to target a striker who’s playing Man City, but let us not forget – Man City are rubbish! Okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but City are far from their best at the moment, and are really struggling to contain teams on the transition. Newcastle’s play best when the game is end to end, as they have a number of athletic, fast players who thrive in defensive – offensive transitions.
Fixture aside, Isak is in the form of his life – he’s got 14 goal involvements in the last 10 games, with his only blanks coming against Bournemouth and Fulham, two teams who have very good defenses. In all of their recent meetings in the PL Newcastle have given Man City a good run for their money and we expect the same this time, especially considering City’s injury crisis and poor form.

While Watkins (8.9m) is ‘yellow flagged’ at time of writing, we think he’ll be fit enough to play significant game time in GW25, so we’ve included him in this weeks FPL GW25 Scout Picks team. The englishman is under-performing on his underlying numbers so far this season, having scored 10 goals from around 13xG.
This should come as no surprise though, as Watkins has tended to under, rather than over, perform his expected numbers across his career, with last year being the exception to the rule. He’s not an awful finisher, and he’s nowhere near as wasteful as the likes of Nunez and Jackson, but he’s not an elite one either, so a dip in output was bound to come at some point. Fortunately that dip seemingly came at the start of the season, with his goal scoring form recovering over the course of the season…
As mentioned, Villa have a DGW, so selecting their most prolific attacker was a necessity even if he is an injury concern. In the reverse fixtures Watkins managed a goal and an assist against Ipswich and a blank against Liverpool. The england international has been in decent form, scoring or assisting in 4 of the last 6 GWs, if fit, he’s a great pick for the double gameweek!

Finally we have Gakpo (7.6m). As with Villa, we felt it necessary to double up on Liverpool attack considering the double GW. We went for Szoboszlai over Gakpo last GW, which proved to be the wrong decision, so this week we’re backing Gakpo. The Dutch forward has been in fine form since December, and was awarded Liverpool’s january player of the month award. For us, he’s the best Liverpool pick behind Salah and TAA, with Szobo coming in a close fourth!
